Need to borrow a shim tool! ALL my shims are tight! So If I need to replace a bunch I really can't afford to buy a tool at this time, so would like to borrow one.

This is the Color rite link to the Yamaha colors http://www.colorrite.com/department/yamaha-10025.cfm Just look up the color name you are looking for as they where used on newer bikes also. Just have to do some looking through the list. -

Thanks Marcarl! Ya looks like all I need to do is clean the crud that has built up on the covers off and buff them up! The only place there's any lacquer is on the valve covers.

While we are on the subject of polishing if I put my bike on the side stand can I remove the clutch case cover with out losing any oil? I can do this with my XJ just wondering about the VR. Mine have been polished previously by a PO and they are polishing up nicely with a buffing pad on a drill and some polish.

Yep........... I can see it now, his next MD..... Hells Angels, Bandito's and who knows who else will show up. There will police barricades.... everyone will frisked and photographed.... names taken, our house's raided......we're on a downward spiral for sure now!!!!

OK How much stuff do I have to remove to get my valve covers OFF. All the plastic is off and I have loosened the gas tank. Any thing else? Last time I had the gas tank, carbs and air intake off. I understand that I can use 2nd gen valve cover gaskets. Does it mater what year or engine size? I know nothing about 2nd gen bikes.
