texasrices Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I am pretty sure that someone here has installed the Kendra Kruz and/or Shinko rear tires on their rides. How are they working out? Pros and cons would be appreciated. Would you recommend them? I have been using Avons but I am looking for a substitute. The cheap price makes me wonder. You know...you get what you pay for. Thanks for any and all feedback.
ddoggma Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Shinko, sticks well, wears fast. Kenda Kruz, has a funny front tire bevel and a 6 ply back tire. I ran a set, and they were way better then the tires that were on it when I bought it. But it thru a chunk on the back tire. I may have run it at too low a psi. But both are OK I think on a budget. I got Dunlop E3s on her now and wont look back.
Barrycuda Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Tuff Tom has dealt with Shinko, you may wanna Shoot him a PM and see what his thoughts are...
GeorgeS Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Cost more , but rears last about 20K. Also the caseing is 1/2 inch thick. Also, consider that longer wear, equals less cost for replacement work, if you hire it done.
MiCarl Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I run the Kruz on my first gen, and have put a couple sets on Royal Stars. Don't think I've ever put a set on a 2nd Gen Venture. No problems, and we're getting good life from them. I had some tread separation on my rear (1st gen.). It happened after my front kicked up a large piece of loose asphalt that whacked the rear tire pretty good and went on to do significant damage to the bike behind me. I wasn't too surprised the tire got damaged and replaced it with another Kruz. Probably 50% of the tires I install in my shop are the Kruz. Never had an issue with any of them.
Squidley Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I can't talk about the Kenda's, but have heard decent things about them. I have run the Shinko's and I'm still running them on 2 Ventures right now. My '83 has a set of the 230 Tourmasters and my '86 has a set of the 777's on it. I like them both, the 230's will wear faster on the rear, about 8K is all your going to safely get. The front will probably go twice that, so 2 rear to 1 front, but I run my bikes hard and love to play in the twisties. The 777's are still new with only about 2500 miles on them but are wearing great. I wouldn't be afraid to buy them, at $150 for the 230's and $180 for the 777's, it's cheaper than shelling out $300+ for some of the brand names if money is tight. If money isn't an option I'll say Avon Venoms in a heartbeat....
djh3 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Had 230 Tourmaster on my 900 Vulcan prior to trading. I only got to put about 3K on it but it looked as good as the day I pu it on. It was a front. I have thought about it, especially on the the front. Got Michelin commanders on sale last year so thats what I went with.
