ablumny Posted July 13, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 13, 2013 (edited) Hello team! Ive ordered a set of 6" smoked lense, slim profile running/brake LED strips. Im also adding a brake flasher. http://www.chromeglow.com/catalog.asp?prodid=670639&showprevnext=1 I intend to place these on the back of my bike on the hard bags and would like to get the groups opinion of which configuration, A, B or C as mocked up in the photo attached.? The "lights" in the photo are not the real light of course, just red lines;). The wires will be hidden no matter which configuration as they'd pass thru a hole into the bag. Thanks ! Ill post pics and a video after I get them working..... andrew Edited July 13, 2013 by ablumny
clawed Posted July 13, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 13, 2013 I'll place my vote, on #3.......horizontal, at the bottom......works great for hiding the wires!
T.J. Posted July 13, 2013 Share #3 Posted July 13, 2013 It is "B" for me.

Rider838 Posted July 13, 2013 Share #5 Posted July 13, 2013 I think option 4 would be better lol hyper makes a set of lites that will give you running lites blinkers and flashing brake lites http://www.hyperlites.com i Have these on my bikes they are much brighter and very intense. I have a bike shop and sell these to a lot of my customers. they also make a set of hyper white for the front an an alternative to modulating head lites Rider838
Oldseadog Posted July 13, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 13, 2013 I would pick option "B". Vertical on the body line.
Barrycuda Posted July 13, 2013 Share #7 Posted July 13, 2013 My vote is B. looks streamlined as well as in "eye line" for those who are reading, eating, talking, texting, cooking and doing laundry while driving!
ablumny Posted July 13, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted July 13, 2013 A. 0 B. 3 C. 2 1 vote for getting something else (Not sure I need to say it but I will, the photos don't have the real lights, just mock ups ) Anyway, thank so far, hoping for more opinions! reddevilmedic Posted July 13, 2013 Share #9 Posted July 13, 2013 A or C, just because with A, you could run wire along side of box...and C on bottom of box.
Cougar Posted July 13, 2013 Share #10 Posted July 13, 2013 Higher Up the better. so cadgers can see it. I have some on the sides of my top trunk now. pretty visible, maybe you could put one on the bottom part of the top trunk. just my 2 cents. ablumny Posted July 13, 2013 Author Share #11 Posted July 13, 2013 Thanks One more point to clarify, the wires exit the led strips from the back. When led strip is stuck on, the wire won't be seen, it'll pass thru a hole into the hard bag. I'd imagine I'd then run the wires out to a plug and in an area that's not seen. Cougar Posted July 13, 2013 Share #13 Posted July 13, 2013 I had a kid last week that I was watching in my rear view mirror on my trike and he was texting or doing something with his phone. the guy in front of me stopped to turn. and then I applied brake and all my lights started to flash and it did get his attention so he SLAMMED his brakes on. he left a little rubber I almost just gunned it to go over to the side of the road that time. At least he saw me from the corner of his eye I guess. or I was lucky that day. The flashing 4 times was from the back-off system I have installed. So glad your adding extra protection on the rear

bongobobny Posted July 13, 2013 Share #17 Posted July 13, 2013 C looks good but I'm thinking you will have problems with the surface not being flat. B would be better than A. How about option D, mount them on your trunk?? As mentioned higher is better...

Snaggletooth Posted July 13, 2013 Share #20 Posted July 13, 2013 I got to go with "C" simply for this reason. I like the trianglelated light pattern. I run the Triangle pattern with my head light and driving lights and am convinced that pattern does create a more visible look. As you are only using these for run/brake having the new lights too close to the turn signals my cause a distration from the turn light if the new LED's are rather intense. But the higher is better is a valid point.
ablumny Posted July 13, 2013 Author Share #21 Posted July 13, 2013 A. 1 b. 3 c. 7 Thanks for the pics and advice. Seems like C is leading the poll. I like both for various reasons, many brought up here.... Ive temporarily set up both for a better visual.
Cougar Posted July 13, 2013 Share #22 Posted July 13, 2013 I have had reports of the space shuttle seeing me from time to time. The bottom lower lights also blink now as well

Lone Eagle Posted July 13, 2013 Share #24 Posted July 13, 2013 Several bikes in our chapter run with Hyperlights - you can really see those from far away - just an additional idea to the one already posted.
ablumny Posted July 14, 2013 Author Share #25 Posted July 14, 2013 Thanks team! I went with C, horizontal , bottom edge of hard bags. Have them mounted and almost done with wiring. I'll post a video tomorrow.... Thx again for all the suggestions Andrew
