george c Posted February 2, 2008 Share #1 Posted February 2, 2008 hello all I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2008 Charcoal Silver,Royal Star Venture ,When it gets to the dealer. Is there anything that I need to no befor I do this?? Now I come from the sporty side, I run a FJR right now.My concern is how is this thing on real world power?? Dos it have enough or is it lacking? I plan on doing allot of 2up riding.That is y i am looking at a comfy Ride (for my wife). any and all input would be great, weather good or bad. Thanks George C. Before I started riding Ventures, my wife of 29 yrs would rarly ride, Now I can't keep her off my bike! I ride in Rockies all the time. Plenty of power. Squeeze Posted February 2, 2008 Share #8 Posted February 2, 2008 I ride a Vmax and a '93 1Gen. I test rided a FJR over a Weekend with my Wife. I was not impressed by the so called Power of the FJR. I was glad to be back on my V4's ... I'd say, you will be delighted from the get up of the Venture. As you are used to the higher RpM Level the FJR needs to give you Power, you will find not much Difference between both. OK, the Venture has a nominal Lack of Power, but the V4 is much more present on lower Revs and produces a good Amount of Torque. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

lockdoc Posted February 3, 2008 Share #12 Posted February 3, 2008 This is a real touring rig, not a sports tourer. You can get on this bike and ride all day long. So can the wife. No need for pit stops every hour. Real world riding, get on the gas to overtake a truck - still better acceleration than your average 5 litre V8. Sit on 80mph all day no problem. It will allow you to add about 1000 rpm before shifting. Open your air boxes for more air, and install K&N air filters. So far no carb adjust needed. I think that's often a problem with guys coming off Harleys though. Coming from an FJ this should feel comfortable. The power is good, doesn't scream like a crotch rocket though. I can start, accelerate and pass at highway speeds while fully loaded, 2-up and pulling a trailer without need for more power to get me where I need to be. george c Posted February 4, 2008 Author Share #20 Posted February 4, 2008 Sense it is a new to you bike, you should take the MSF safety course on it!!!!!! you no i thought about that. we have a place by my house that the local bike-cops go to practice i have met alot of them when thy escort me on big loads. thy all have told me to come over and let them show me some of what thy have to do. It would be like taking the advanced MSf course is what thy told me.But it will also have some extra stuff in with it . most of all it will be all free thanks George C. We pulled onto the highway and he thought he would show the old man a thing or two so he got on it hard. You should have seen his face when I passed him. Top ends around 115, very comfortable (1 or 2 up), great tourer, you will not regret it. Lots of good mods on this site.
