fgrimes636 Posted December 31, 2012 Share #1 Posted December 31, 2012 Hi, I have been looking at the trailer hitches available for my 06 RSTD and they all come with the round bar all the across to connect to the saddlebag brackets. But when I look at my bike, I see 2 bar/brackets with threaded holes in them. I have attached 2 photos of the bars. Does anyone know what is supposed to be attached to these threaded holes? Thanks

Carbon_One Posted December 31, 2012 Share #3 Posted December 31, 2012 "Looks to me , you already have a custom hitch . your missing the ball mount. Thom" That would be my guess as well. Here's a pic of what my reciever hitch looks like mounted. playboy Posted December 31, 2012 Share #4 Posted December 31, 2012 I've never seen a hitch like that but thom is right your missing the ball mount. Looks like it would be easy enough to fab one up though.
fgrimes636 Posted January 1, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted January 1, 2013 I have non of the tools to do any fab work. It looks like it might be aluminum. Would that be strong enough. Sent from my VS840 4G using Tapatalk
Freebird Posted January 1, 2013 Share #6 Posted January 1, 2013 I think I've seen about every hitch made for these bikes and have never seen anything like that. I'm not sure what the heck it is. I wonder if it was some kind of home fabricated hitch or some type of cooler rack?
playboy Posted January 1, 2013 Share #7 Posted January 1, 2013 From the looks of it it should be plenty strong. Are those holes threaded ? Never mind I went back and looked and they are threaded. Can you tell how much clearance you have if you placed a bar across your mounts? You might take a ruler or other straight edge that would lay across there and measure up to the bottom of your fender. fgrimes636 Posted January 1, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted January 1, 2013 From the bottom of the brackets, it is 7/8" to the bottom of the fender. The top of the bracket is slightly above the bottom the fender. From the screw hole to screw hole across is 9 1/4" . If no one has ever seen anything like it, I guess I can try to contact the dealer that I bought it from and see if they can give me the PO info to see if they have any left over parts. Thom Posted January 1, 2013 Share #9 Posted January 1, 2013 The Dealer may have the parts , sometimes the dealers remove the hitchs because they think it will lower the value ,
fgrimes636 Posted January 1, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted January 1, 2013 If I can't get any info or parts from whoever, It is coming off and I am buying a hitch from Carbon One. Maybe someone else would want to buy it from me for some new hitch design experiment.

Guest tx2sturgis Posted January 1, 2013 Share #13 Posted January 1, 2013 That looks like the mounts for a hitch that pulled some type of single wheel trailer, or maybe a cooler rack. Just guessing of course. If it were me, I'd remove it and install the hitch that these guys sell.
reggieman Posted January 1, 2013 Share #14 Posted January 1, 2013 I can't really tell from the position of the photo but would something line up below the fender? Looks kinda high up. Was thinking maybe someone had flagpoles mounted there or a carrier as stated earlier. I had the Hitchdad trailer hitch. Worked great venturedad@earthlink.net
