Godlover Posted February 18, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2012 A guy wants to trade either a 2003 Harley Sportster 1200 Anniversary with 16000 miles or a 2009 V-star 950 with 2000 miles for my 91 Trans Am. I am leaning towards the V-star if we made the trade. Seems to be worth more. Any thoughts?
muaymendez1 Posted February 18, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 18, 2012 The sportster will be easier to move if you had to sell in a pinch.thay sportster should be worth about $4k. And it will hold that value longer. They are both nice bikes.I would snatch up the Harley if it checks out mechanically.Good luck
RandyR Posted February 18, 2012 Share #3 Posted February 18, 2012 although if you want it for a reliable backup bike, I'd pick the Vstar
Carbon_One Posted February 18, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 18, 2012 Depends on whether you intend to keep the bike for yourself or resell it. If keeping the bike pick the one you really like. Haven't looked at resell prices for either bike so imo that's a toss up. If you keep one definately test ride them both. Larry
Godlover Posted February 18, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted February 18, 2012 I would rather have cash! I figure the sportster is more of an even trade. The v-star seems to be bringing more money.

More money instantly but not in 5 years. You still have 90s supporters selling for $4k.
Solodadof2 Posted February 18, 2012 Share #7 Posted February 18, 2012 Is the 950 a tourer or just a base model?

Godlover Posted February 19, 2012 Author Share #9 Posted February 19, 2012 Did you forget who you're talking to here? Some people try to be funny! Well, I told the guy I would trade for the V-star and after that he wanted me to pay him more. I really didn't need a bike so I told him, nope! He would trade the Sportster but it would be worth about the same as my Trans Am. I'd rather have the Trans Am. I'm having fun driving it. So, thanks for your input. Now I get to look for another deal! 1/2 the fun is the hunt!!!!
utadventure Posted February 19, 2012 Share #10 Posted February 19, 2012 Sportster has solid motor mounts, is air cooled and the top end will need going through at about 40k. I pretty sure the V-Star is water cooled but will have less power and will be more maint free. Also will have cheaper farkles. Go for the V-Star!
