Need Root Canal - there goes my money for safety chrome!

Last week one of my back teeth started to be very sensitive to cold. Went to my dentist and he said I have a crack in my tooth and need a root canal. Of course, he can't do it so I have to go to a specialist. Cost of root canal: $800! Cost of crown: $900. Total invested in one lousy tooth: $1700!! Thought about going cheap and having it pulled but I really want to keep what teeth I have left. Don't want to do dentures until absolutely necessary. Anyway - I'm thankful I live in America where dental care is available though expensive. I can't imagine how people in other countries deal with rotten teeth and dental issues. I am blessed but I'm still whining about forking over $1700 on one tooth!

Wow that's actually cheap for a root canal. The idiot here who does them was charging almost 900 about 8 or so yrs ago. I also went the cheap way. I have the rest of my teeth. Plus that idiot didn't do insurance so you had to pay him and do the paperwork to get reimbursed yourself.

I have 3 teeth that are broken off entirely on one side. I attribute that to the greedy dentist who did unnecessary root canals on all three of them. After he did that it made the walls so thin that eventually all 3 of them broke. Now it would cost me $3K to get everything back into shape. There's no way.

I think all 3 of them could have been repaired with a simple filling, but no, he had to do root canals.

People say all the time that insurance agents are evil (lol, some of them are), well I don't trust dentists.:Im not listening to

I was wainting for ya Dan! Thought I might as well give ya an "in.":big-grin-emoticon:

I think you would have enjoyed being there when the Judge told the Insurance "Scum" that I fought for 4 yrs that he would have to pay me about twice what the "Blue Beast" was worth because I wouldn't quit. In the beginning I would have taken about 1/3 of what he had to pay. I enjoyed that look as much as I did the Cash!!!

NOW BACK TO OUR ORGINAL THREAD***:whistling:

Actually you can fly down to Puerta Vallarta, get the root canal, lay on the beach for a couple of days, and fly back for a third of what it would cost you in the US. Maybe that's why they call them third world countries?? :whistling: The dentists down there went to the same schools as those here in the US and the quality is excellent. I got wind of this via sailors who have spent a few years sailing in Mexico.

On the root canals. I've had 4 or 5 roots. They don't last. Spent mucho bucks with my family dentist for 40 years, and had to have three molars pulled afterwards... at an extra cost of course... because they just don't last. Now he wants to put in Bridges for another $2500 per. :mo money: I'm getting used to not having a full set of grinders. :) Cosmetically no one can see them so what the heck.... I am thinking about doing the PV dance tho...

On another note, one my friends who lives in Muleje, came down with something serious. Spent 10 days in the Loreto hosipital, plus meds, doc, nursing care, and the total came to $75 bucks. That's about $750 pesos.

I know there's some folks who wouldn't put a toe over the boarder, but if you're a little adventurous you can save a bunch of bucks....

I could have had an inground pool with what it cost for Jean's root canals over the years. Now im looking at 2k for an implant to replace a tooth that collapsed, a tooth that had a root canal several years ago. At least our dentist takes interest free payments.

I had a dentist prepare my tooth for a root canal by surgically removing part of my gum. When it became infected, she told me I would have to see a specialist, who told me that my tooth would not support a crown and would have to be replaced with a implant! I went to a different dentist and had all of my teeth pulled and have not regretted it once. Don't waste your money on a root canal. The last dentist told me a root canal will last about 5 years before the tooth breaks again.

I thought about having it pulled but decided against it. When I was a kid I did not take care of my teeth so lost several teeth by the time I was 20. I just want to keep the teeth I have as long as I can. If I had time I'd head down to my son's place in Larado - go over to Mexico and have the whole thing done for $300. Just don't have that kind of time right now!

I have a back bottom tooth that my dentist told me I may need a future root canal. I checked around on prices and it too was about $800. I mentioned to my sister that this was a lot of money for about 15 minutes work. Her response was "Would you rather him to take an hour to do it?"

I will be 60 in less than a month and I still have 27 of my real teeth left, so I guess I am doing pretty good so far.

Had a cracked tooth this spring. My dentist wanted me to see a specialist to determine if it cracked all the way up (that way it would need removint and a crown). Specialist looked at the tooth and said "How can I tell, we will go into it and if it is cracked all the way through we will pull it. Went back to my dentist and said "PULL IT". His office keeps calling to see when to schedule the bridge.

LIKE THAT WILL EVER HAPPEN!
