6m459 Posted June 9, 2007 #1 Posted June 9, 2007 Hi, Is there a third party alternative source for air filters for the first gens? I need a new one, but last time, the OEM one from local dealer was just over $50 by the time I paid all the sales taxes! I don't see a Fram one in thier catalog, is there anyone who offers one? Thanks, Brian H.
83 decked out Posted June 10, 2007 #2 Posted June 10, 2007 try rick at Buckeye Performance he can get aftermarket I don't know the brand but a little cheaper
bongobobny Posted June 10, 2007 #3 Posted June 10, 2007 For that kind of money buy a K&N off of ebay. Increased performance, and lasts forever as long as you clean it periodically...
bisquit Posted June 10, 2007 #4 Posted June 10, 2007 I bought a K&N from my local dealer for an 86 venture and it was just a lil over $60 if I remember right. If you intend to keep the bike for awhile it may be a worthwhile investment.........Don
Fvogt Posted June 10, 2007 #5 Posted June 10, 2007 In MHO the K&N is the way to go (K&N air filter # YA-1283) The first filter I bought for the 84 is still in the 84 after 250,000 miles. I clean it and re-oil the filter every odd year. That is more then you have to do But I live in a dusty place. Great value Fred

timk Posted June 10, 2007 #7 Posted June 10, 2007 I used a UNI washable on my 86 with no problems, and about half price of s K&N.
Red Baron Posted June 12, 2007 #8 Posted June 12, 2007 A couple years ago I got a new airfilter for my 1990 VR from DENNIS KIRK. It's a paper filter that looks and fits, exactly like the OEM filter. It was a IEMIGO brand, PN 12-94470. I think they call it EMGO. I think it was about $27 US. Hope this helps.
kbert777 Posted June 12, 2007 #9 Posted June 12, 2007 I use this one from JC Whitney, great quality for $21: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ItemBrowse/c-10111/s-10101/p-100000146648/mediaCode-ZX/appId-10361281/Pr-p_CATENTRY_ID:10000014664810361281 I use the K&N chemicals to clean and recharge.
