  1. Looking for anyone that has tried the Michelin Pilot Road 4's. They wouldn't be for my '89 Venture. I've also got a K1200RS BMW that is in dire need of new treads before we head out for our AZ bike trip Feb 15th (no we're not riding them out ) Thanks, Big Auggie
  2. I was wondering what happened. Tried logging on about 15 minutes before this and couldn't. Obviously it's been resolved. Thank You!!! Big Auggie
  3. Pretty sure my tank is leaking. How involved is the removal of the gas tank on an '89 Venture?
  4. WTH!!?? After reading ur posts, I went out to see if it would turn over. When I turned the key on everything lit up!!!! Now, I've been doing this same thing at least twice a week since it died on me in June and it never lit up once. Now the issue is trust. Do I want to take this on our next winter adventure? (going to AZ this year)! I'm thinking not, I'll take my Beemer. The Yammy will have to be happy with short runs next summer until I feel the issue has been resolved. This winter I'm going to be digging into the electrical connections and giving them a good dose of cleaner as was suggested. Dielectric grease on everything I can get to also. So…..which one of u has the magic wand that got my bike to light up after being dormant all summer? ;-)
  5. Last March we had to ride through a Florida downpour for 45 miles. At one point my headlight quit working, but the next day it was back on again. Now the bike's dash doesn't even light up when I turn the ignition on. Battery's good, can't find any bad fuses so I'm thinking the TCI has died after it's soaking. So is the Ignitech replacement TCI still the way to go?
  6. I converted mine to manual with a schrader valve. I took the hose down to the auto parts store and they set me up with a compression fitting. It was difficult getting the compression fitting over the hose but possible.Eventually found out that the problem was a leaking hose. Replaced the hose, but not going back to the CLASS system anytime soon.
  7. Try spraying carb cleaner on the boots while it's running. If the rpms increase then you've got an air leak.
  8. My back two plug boots have deteriorated (due to heat) to the point parts of them are stuck to the head. The thumbnail shows one of the deteriorated boots and one of my front boots. I'm thinking the back two are not original. Any thoughts? Can I buy just the boots?
  9. The back two plug caps which have the springs have the discs. My thinking is that it is a buffer between the spring and resistor to avoid abrasion to the resistor.
  10. When I took the plug cap apart there was a small brass(?) disc that came out. I didn't notice it at first so don't know where it goes in the line up. I'm guessing it protects the resistor from abrasion by the spring. Took the other back cylinder plug cap apart but didn't see that small disc right away either. Thoughts?
  11. My bike started to miss/pop on the tail end of a short run. I initially thought a vacuum cap had came off but it still misses after I replaced all 3. I took the plugs out and found the back right plug was not firing. First thing I'm checking will be the plug then the wire. If it isn't the wire then I'm thinking coil. Question 1: Does this have two coils and do they run left bank/right bank or front/rear bank? Question 2: How important are those plastic shields that sit on the valve covers? The front one is a royal pain in the @$$ to get in and out when you need to change plugs and I'd like to leave them off!
  12. So is this idea able to be put into a spot where it's ready available so nobody has to "reinvent the wheel" so to speak the next time somebody's working on their stator? Is it in the tech library already and I just missed it???
  13. When u r ready to put the cover back on I found it much easier to fight the pull of the magnets by going down to the hardware store and buying 4 new soft bolts. I then cut the heads off the new bolts and stuck the threaded portion into the 4 corners of the motor to act as a guide for the cover u r trying to get into position. I used gasket cement on mine and its much less messy when you can put the cemented gasket onto the engine and it's held in place by the 4 guide studs you've installed. Now you can wrap your fingers over the edge of the cover to counteract the strong magnetic pull you'll be fighting. Big Auggie
  14. I'd appreciate it if you'd send me that piece from the compressor as I may hook my CLASS back up after I tear it apart this next winter. Just give me a complete address to send reimbursement for the shipping. (send me a text to 715 563 3568 with ur address and I'll text you my address, otherwise send me a personal message on this site). It would probably fit in one of those shipping envelopes the postal service sells. Thanks
  15. I changed fluids in the brake system last fall, (I didn't clean out the reservoir though). The warning light went off after the first 100 miles of the 2000 we rode in Florida. However I still do not have cruise control.
  16. I don't believe the cruise's green light would be on if it was a fuse issue, but I did check them and they were OK.
  17. I need the line that runs from the compressor to the first joint on the rear shock air line, or better yet the whole line right up to the shock. If you've got an extra let me know how much. Also has anyone had luck getting these made up at your local auto supply store??? Thanks
  18. While on our annual Florida bike run this past February my '89 Venture's low brake fluid light came on as soon as I set out on our trip. I checked the front/back brake fluids and clutch reservoir level and all were fine. Eventually the light turned off, but my cruise control no longer worked. Probably not a coincedence I'm guessing. Suggestions?
  19. I recently took my CLASS system off line, stuck a tank valve on the rear shock line and discovered it still wouldn't hold air. So, is the rear shock rebuildable or should I order a new Progressive shock and be done with it? I put Progressive springs in the front forks last year and have never regretted it!
  20. Just checked EBay, didn't see any Venture Standard air lines. I've been considering eliminating my CLASS system. I already have Progresssive springs in the front so thought I'd replace the rear shock with a Progressive one. Won't do that until next winter, so in the meantime I was considering putting on a set of air lines from a Standard Venture. Anyone know where I can get a set?
  21. My CLASS system isn't holding air pressure. To help isolate the problem I picked up a short bolt and initially installed it where the front shock's supply line enters the compressor. I brought the system up to pressure but it didn't maintain it. Out of curiosity, I plugged the outlet for the rear shock's supply line and put the front shock's line back on the compressor. It still wouldn't maintain pressure. My thinking is either I have leaks in both the front and rear shock systems or the compressor has problems. (I'm leaning towards the compressor). Are the compressors rebuildable?
  22. I personally prefer a 7' wide trailer. We rented a 6' for our yearly February Florida run a few years back. We made do, but it's much easier to get around a couple of side by side bikes in a 7'. Torsion axles give a much smoother ride also. Just picked up a 7 x 16 R&R used aluminum trailer with a 3' V-nose for this years run. Had to keep checking to see if it was still back there!! They are made in Michigan, I gave them a call before I bought and they were real helpful. You can actually buy from them direct if you prefer new. As usual, you'll get what you pay for!
  23. We'll have at least 3 of us representing Wisconsin. Plan on being in Daytona March 5th and 6th. Hoping to get in some demo rides!!
  24. My bike is pushing 76,000 and I've never messed with the air drier. I read somewhere u can remove the desiccant and dry it back out in a low heat oven. Has anyone tried that?
