  1. Anyone tried the Amzoil 20w-50 (V Twin) in their 1st Generation bike?
  2. Did what u said 3 times now, hopefully 3rd time is the charm.
  3. Is it possible to add pics to an existing ad??
  4. Got er done. Just got back from about a 30 mile test run. No light!! Running smoooooth!
  5. I checked the owners manual, the icon showing up is for the brake. Book says it's for the front brake master cylinder.
  6. Think I found it. Behind the right back cylinder jug. Well, at least that one was low so hoping that solves the warning light problem. Time will tell!
  7. I frequently get the warning light for the front master brake cylinder during acceleration or if it's sitting on it's side stand idling. I'm assuming the reservoir above the lever is not the master cylinder. So just exactly where is the front master cylinder?
  8. Well, it's a rainy day so I decided to pull the sender unit off the gas tank to look for cap parts. Found everything. Got it all back together with some blue thread lock, and it's working!
  9. I'm thinking of measuring the distance the rear tire sits off the ground and cut off about 3/4 to a 1/2 inch less than that measurement. The nice thing is we're working with metal and the experiment can be undone if necessary.
  10. One of my riding buddies has a "drive off" center stand on his Harley. I'v been looking at my center stand and thinking that it could be modified to be a drive off type also. These 1st generations have always been a handful getting it up on the center stand anyways so I thinks it is worth a shot. Anybody else tried doing this?
  11. That sounds like a rainy day project. It's worth a shot though. Right now I just don't top it off, seems to be working.
  12. The lower portion of my gas cap fell into my tank. Can't believe I didn't notice it being loose. I tried a magnet to fish it out but I believe that part isn't magnetic as the base it was screwed to isn't magnetic either. I don't plan on pulling off the tank to get it out, so is anybody willing to part with one off their parts bike? Thanks
  13. We'll trailer them to Woodlands. After that it's two weeks of solid motorcycling. So far we'll be visiting San Antonio, Chorpus Christie & Padre Island, Galveston, Houston, Fredericksburg, Austin. Just got dumped on with about 11" of heavy snow here in Chippewa Falls WI so we're more than ready to saddle up.
  14. Our guy trip is set for March 8-18th. We will be staying in Fredericksburg exploring the "Hill Country" for part of our journey. Looking for suggestions for "must see" places and routes from people that have ridden in other parts of Texas. Oh, we are also hitting Corpus Christi and Padre Islands. Also would appreciate hearing of any great local eateries.
  15. Got the ball studs on. Pretty simple fix. They sure hold nice and tight!
  16. I just did this repair last summer. I had a local body shop weld all the cracks and then I glued a 1/8" sheet of ABS on the outside. It's stronger than new. The only visible part is some weld lines on the inside on each side of the mirror, not a big deal. I got my ABS from a local plastics plant that deals with sheet plastic. (The injection-molding plastics plants don't have it in sheets.) I was going to buy another lid too and then realized I'd just be doing this repair eventually anyways.
  17. Why would they put an idiot light for the oil level when there already is a window to check it? The light came on today after I gassed up. If I can't find a replacement I might just cut the wire going to it!! (BTW the oil level was fine and is fresh.)
  18. Just got back from a "spur of the moment" 145 mile run. I can honestly say I don't miss the clutch switch!
  19. I was looking at an old post from 2007 talking about the ball stud fix on the side covers for 1st generations. Anybody found a new source for them since then?
  20. I just went out and tried to start the bike in gear and clutch engaged, it wouldn't turn over. However I can't start it in gear with the clutch in either. Not a big deal to me, I normally put it in neutral when I get off anyway.
  21. I'm still in need of a clutch switch for my '89. In the meantime, I decided to bypass it and now I have my cruise back!!! In my opinion the clutch switch isn't as important as the brake switch when it comes to shutting down ur cruise. How many times have I shifted with the cruise on in the 20+ years I've owned it? - Zero times So until I find someone willing to part with one I'll live without it. Yamagrl found some on Ebay but they were for '83 & '84's and I'm not sure they are compatible with my '89 setup.
  22. Well it's not ABS plastic so I'll try some plastic weld on it tonight.
  23. Hoping my ABS glue job holds. The small cylindrical part fits inside the clutch lever bracket. It broke where the larger cylindrical portion meets the smaller part. Am I missing a spring? The parts in the pic are all I had in my parts bag. I don't see how this is going to move when I engage the clutch lever so it disengages the cruise.
