  1. You might as well get a credit card that pays back a 1% bonus, and use it for everything.

    Only 1%??? My GM Card gives me 5%, my BJ's card gives me 2% for club purchases and 1% elsewhere, and my Discover Card used to give 5% on all gas purchases but now only 1 purchase per month, and a lot of times Citi gives more than 1% promotions on points. I agree with you but it IS a discipline to not overspend, and to pay them off in full every month...

  2. Do Not Use a 1/4-20 wing nut on your seat. That seat stud is a 6mm metric thread. Do not mix SAE (standard) threads with Metric threads, you will be replacing your seat studs in the future. Use the OEM nut, a quick turn with a 10mm open end wrench will loosen the nut, then it can be removed by hand. How many times do you need to remove the seat??

     

    No, you will not damage your threads using PLASTIC wing nuts. Another trick I learned from Dragerman doing this is to heat the bolt first so the plastic reforms easier, or apply heat to the wingnut after you have it threaded on to the bolt. Works fantastic and makes seat removal very easy.

     

    As far as how many times do you remove the seat, well, how many accessories do you install, and how often do you check your battery...

  3. I'm sure you will get many responses but here's my 2 cents. Everybody gets the whine from what I understand. I just recently bought an '09 and have only hads it for 500 miles but am very happy with it. Keep in mind that the bike is warantied for 5 years unlimited miles so they fix the whine when it happens. If you are unhappy with your dealer's service then find another dealer!

     

    The engine is prety much bullet proof and just normal service is all that is required i.e. oil changes, brakes, etc. We strongly recommend swapping the rear barke pads from inside to outside every 2K to 4K to extend the life as normally one wears faster than the other. As far as greasin g the splines on the driveshaft, well, change a tire, grease things up and you should be in good shape.

  4. If you have the OEM radio then you DO have the intercom, and it is just a matter of plugging in the cables for the headsets. The jacks are located on the amplifier box bolted onto the inner fairing frame. If you take off the upper fairing dash piece you will see the box with a big rubber cover on it. lift up the rubber cover and you will see the jacks where both headset cables plug into as well as where the CB unit plugs into. You can buy the cables from Siera and other places I'm sure.

    The CB is a different story. The '83 - '85 used a different style CB which is a 2 piece unit. The '86 up uses a 1 piece unit. If you use the '86 up you have to switch the dash piece and the class controller. Fleabay is ytour best bet but the earlier units ae far and few between...

  5. I think it is similar to your cage. You get all excited about it when it's new but after driving it for a few years you get a little bored with it, it isn't as shiny as it used to be, doesn't run as good, etc, and your interests wander towards another new jewel.

     

    Wanderer, I just bought a new one and I too have 4 more years to go until retirement. I, however, will be retiring with a trike so the RSV will be for sale then...

  6. I'll have to be a little more careful in titling my posts from now on I guess. Sorry for the confusion.

     

    I did compare the pedal position and free play between bikes. They both seem to look and feel the same now.

     

    Also, I did use a C clamp to retract the pistons at reassembly. Both seemed to move freely and didn't take too much force. Actually I was surprised how nicely they retracted as I was expecting a struggle. I made sure to push on the centre of the piston by putting a socket inside and using it as a spacer.

    Hmmmm, I just used my thumbs to reinstall my pistons, but I did take the time to polish the pistons prior to reassembly, using a buffing wheel. Did you replace the seals as well?? The original ones are quite old!!

     

    Did you also rebuild the rear master cylander?? Could be IT is not returning smoothly.

     

     

    BTW Skydoc, that is EXACTLY how I disassembled all my calipers!! Started with 3 paint sticks because they fit perfectly between the slots, then removed one at a time and finally removed all of them!!
