  1. I went through the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull England years ago. I took a lot of pictures. I have one of a setup very similar as the one with the lady in the sidecar. The other one I have is a lot newer and has an all metal, fully enclosed, sidecar with a steering wheel and no handlebars on the bike. I still have all the pictures but I seem to have misplaced the identifying list. In 2003 there was a fire which destroyed a good portion of the building and hundreds of bikes were destroyed. When they announced they were going to rebuild as much as they could motorcyclists around the world sent old parts to help out. Over 300 bikes were rebuilt. In England you were taxed on the number of wheels your vehicle had. Two wheels was cheapest followed by three wheels and then four wheels the most expensive. The result was many innovative three wheeled bikes and cars.
  2. Challenge....I have a picture of a motorcycle with an enclosed sidecar. The unique thing is there are no handle bars on the motorcycle but there is a steering wheel in the side car. The driver rode in the sidecar and the passenger rode on the bike. Can you identify it?
  3. EST....I presume is Eastern Standard Time. Got to figure out what that is out here in the civilized part of the country ( West Coast) or is that Australian time which puts it way past my bed time. At my age figgerin ain't my strong suit.
  4. Actually those three wheelers don't look like the bikes I was looking at. Picture that first bike with dual rear wheels mounted a couple inches apart. Like dualys on a truck.
  5. I did take some pics but I am a Troglodyte when it comes to computers. The one I have is coal fired but I have managed to master the on/off switch and a couple other basics. The pic at the start of this thread looks just like them but they had dual rear wheels side by side under the same fender.
  6. I think the dual rears were for the sand and dirt. Saw 6-7 of them.
  7. I have seen very similar bikes in Mexico. The main difference being that the bikes I was looking at there had dual rear wheels and I think. a smaller engine.
  8. Just my opinion, non political, non religious. It seems to me those two things get in the way of honest discussion. In the Canadian Legion you are not allowed to discuss religion or politics...leads to too many fights, but you can discuss anything else, such as economics. Shut Down China. Impossible. For many years China has been supporting their major market by buying hundreds of millions of treasury bonds and investing money. They do not want the US to fail as it is their major market. They want to make it dependant on China. At the same time China has supported North Korea against world sanctions. This makes North Korea dependant on China. China has also invaded south asian territories by taking uninhabited atolls and building military posts on them. Many of these atolls have been in other countries waters. They intend to take over the south china seas which is the largest shipping corridor in the world. They want to be the largest super power in the world. They can not do it politically but they are close to doing it economically. In history there were the lords and serfs, owned by the lords. The economy and development were stagnant. When international trade developed it created the middle class. This spread out the wealth and the middle class had disposable income. Much progress was made. We are the middle class. without us the economy fails and we are back to lords and serfs. China is a dictatorship, lords and serfs, but it will crumble as more information gets to the serfs and they start to rebel. In the western world the lords are big business who would like nothing better than to turn all of us into serfs. In my opinion this plan can not work. To have a healthy economy you have to have the middle class with disposable income. Anything else will be a failure.
  9. I understand about the stress. We were all packed up and about to leave for the airport for a three week vacation. I went down to the basement to check door was locked. Stepped into three inches of water and a flood from the water heater. Shut off power and water and went on vacation. Dealt with it when i got back.
  10. Just my opinion and nothing more. Lack of regulation = total free trade = big business stomps all over the little guy=near monopoly= big guy does whatever he wants=big guy always wants more= drive for higher profits=move production to China ( no unions=low wages=no health or safety=no pensions=cheap) = more profit for big guy=China brings in regulation and now owns big guy. Everyone else suffers. Greed wins, or looses, depending on which side of the ocean you are on.
  11. Stock horn....pathetic Wolo............Great.
  12. It was running fine when i gave it to him. Main problems are cosmetic and probably need to redo carbs and clean gas tank.
  13. I had a Madura 1200. That 1/4 turn throttle was instant fun. I gave it to a friend when I bought my Venture Midnight Special. My friend just moved off island and gave me the Madura back. Unfortunately it has spent many years under a tarp and has corrosion. I would give it to anyone who wants a project.
  14. All quiet on the western front, or at least our part of it. No virus here on Salt Spring yet. Grocery and liquor stores stocked and open. Visitors being discouraged. Getting a few things done around the house. Have had 4 medical and one dental appointment cancled which is just being sensible. Long walks on the beach, good books and the wife talks either to herself or the dog. I'm good.
  15. My wife and I do not subscribe to the greedy panic buying going on. We have had 8 deaths here in BC but 6 of them were at a private, for profit, health care center for the elderly. There have been problems with some of these private centers as they have put profits ahead of people. They have brought in Asians who will do the work for minimum wage and the sanitary standards have fallen. Airlines in their greed for more profit have jammed more and more people into aircraft where most of the air is recycled. I can foresee lawsuits against the sub standard health care outfits and the airlines and cruise lines are getting their asses kicked. I have some cash put aside to invest when the market has bottomed out because it always comes back up. Meanwhile we are living our lives as normal. I like shopping now as there are few people in the stores. This illness should be taken seriously but panicking is counter productive.
  16. Ok, this is getting entirely out of hand now. Closing the schools is sensible, closing the border to all but vital traffic is good, but now they have gone too far....they have closed the bars and pubs!
  17. Interesting information on You Tube. World Health Authority Assistant General Director Dr Aylward. Check it out. Basically he says the same as I did...act decisively and act fast. Check it out.
  18. Due to the rigid controls in China the rate of infection is already falling there. I think every place that jumps on this thing right away is going to be able to control it. Our rate of infection in Canada is far lower than a lot of other places due to the health controls we already had in place.
  19. Not 1922....22 caliber. Someone put out a post that there was going to be a shortage of 22 cal ammo. The result was panic buying with people stockpiling huge amounts of 22 ammo. There never was a shortage but people created one by panic buying. A self fulfilling prophecy.
  20. Plain old panic. Some dolt puts out a notice that they are going to run out of toilet paper, probably as a joke, and the sheep panic. Remember the 22 panic?
  21. Yep. Hold hands and pray for a wind. If that doesn't work whistle up a wind.
  22. I would drop anchor if there was bottom to be found, otherwise I would tape an incense stick to the bulkhead and watch which way the smoke drifted. Set the sails and get everyone hanging off the lee rail. The winds here are so fluky I have sailed out of Ganges harbour under spinnaker and passed a boat sailing into the harbour under spinnaker. We both had the wind dead behind us and passed within 30 feet of each other.
  23. I always said anyone can make a sailboat go when there is wind, the trick is to make it go when there is no wind.
  24. I love sailing. Sailed everything from 8 ft Sabot to 45 ft trimaran and a lot in between. This area, southern gulf islands in British Columbia, is considered one of the most difficult to sail due to the nature of the freaky winds and strong tides. One of the things I realy liked, besides rough weather, was ghosting along at 0300 with not a sound but the ripple of the water and the floressence streaming off the back of the boat like diamonds on black velvet. It was understood that if two sailboats were within sight of each other there was a race. I tell people that comparing a sailboat to a power boat is like comparing a motorcycle to a car. Had to give it up due to my knees.
