Mr. Puc, I see that you didn't mention the older Yamaha 500 4 strokes? If you did, I just missed it. One of my all time favorite bikes was my old Yamaha Thumper. Not even sure what year it was but I think I owned it in the early to mid 80's. This one was the street legal version but I spent many great times with it on the trails. It was a torque monster. A bit finicky to start because if you didn't have that piston in the top position, it would kick the crap out of you. It sprained my ankle more than once. I loved that bike though. At that time, I lived less than 5 miles from where I worked so also rode it to work very often.

Personally, I would just buy a good used replacement engine. They are not hard to find and can generally be had for somewhere less than a thousand bucks for a nice low mileage one. It will likely have more miles on it than the one you have but much simpler.

Would be great to meet up but I have no idea where we will be. We have rented a houseboat for all next week and pick it up later today. Plan to find a secluded place to park it and have no idea where that will be.

I don't doubt that. She is wanting to come home where she isn't beat up on.

I'm at a hotel in Somerset, KY. I saw this bike sitting out front later last night and this morning. It has Florida plates. I tell you, if this person rode this bike from Florida to Somerset, KY, he has my admiration Now maybe it's somebody who just moved here and is working here or something, I have no idea. I watched for the rider and never saw him. I tell you though, I could have done that ride on that bike when I was maybe 16 - 20 years old but no way would I do it now. It's a Triumph. Look at those knobby tires. Not only that but it has been raining here for 3 days.

No, must have been some static on the line.

Been having problems getting our site to load, any one else?
Freebird replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
waiting for VentureRider blah blah....the actual complete details may or may not help. Exactly what was the blah blah if it happens again. That does bring up another point though. I assumed that it was the actual forum that people are having an issue with. You said that you saw the delay on the home page though. So how many people are talking about http://www.venturerider.org I usually come directly to the forum page and seldom enter from the home page. That being said, I have tried a few times over the past hour to go directly to the home page and again, it loaded fine. I've never waited even 5 seconds, much less 43 seconds. -

That's what makes it so hard to track these things. I'm at a hotel now in Somerset, KY and the internet connection here is only fair but the site is still working just fine for me. -

They are turned on now. I'll leave it on for a couple of days and see if it makes a difference. I personally don't like it on as I like viewing the forum full screen. So far, it has made no difference that I can see. This post submitted almost instantly. I'm editing it now to add this. -

That is something I'll have to check. That was the next thing I was going to ask, what features are turned on that may cause the issue. I have mine set to not load the sidebars at all so maybe that's an issue. I'll have to turn them on and see what affect it has. The thing is, I've made no changes to the software nor added any new feature for probably a year or more. -

WOW...you think that 2344ms is SLOW. It's loading a LOT of stuff and that translates to 2.3 seconds. Sorry, I don't consider that very slow. -
I agree that sodium is the biggest culprit. I was on blood pressure medicine in my mid 30s. I stopped using a salt shaker. That's it. I do half try to watch what I eat but I don't search for low salt foods and etc. I simply don't ever touch a salt shaker. I was raised in a home where you salted everything before even tasting it so it was a bit of an adjustment for me. It was a very short time though before I never missed it and now foods often taste too salty. At any rate, I was off the blood pressure medicine about 60 days after that. I am 60 years old now and my blood pressure is still good. I know that it likely doesn't work for a lot of people but I would much rather put the salt shaker down than take a drug every day. I was about 35 years old when I quit the salt so it has worked for 25 years.

Been having problems getting our site to load, any one else?

It is not really unusual for there to be network problems that affect some and not others. It could be anywhere between your computer and where our site is hosted. That's why it may affect some and not others. I'm not saying that is the issue, I have no idea. If it IS the issue though, it can be hard to find and is really up to the various providers to isolate the problem. About the only thing you can do to determine if that is the case is to "ping" VentureRdier.org and it should show you where in the route that things are getting slowed down. -

I did send a message to our host. They are very good about checking things out when I ask but they found no issues at all. I've seen no issues either and have accessed the site from several different hotels and other places. Sorry folks, I don't know what might be causing it. This is the response from our hosting company. Hello Donald, Server seems optimal now -- cP/vz134-tx/2686 root@67.222.3.45 [~]# whatswrong ### Global checks ✓ Server has been running longer than 30 minutes ✓ No hung tasks logged in ringbuffer ✓ No CPU soft lockups logged in ringbuffer ### VM checks ✓ No out of memory conditions found ### FS checks ✓ No I/O errors reported in ringbuffer log ✓ No uncorrectable drive errors ✓ No filesystems re-mounted read only ✓ All volumes have some free space ✓ All volumes have inodes available ### Process checks ✓ httpd running ✓ mysqld running ✓ named running Found 0 potential problem(s) -- though there was few issues at the server NODE about 15 minutes ago which could be resulted little slowness. Different bikes Condor. There is a Heritage Softail and there was a Springer Softail. The Springer was discontinued several years back. That's a shame because it was one of my favorites from a styling standpoint though it did not always get high marks for handling.

When I hit the "post" button on that message, it probably took less than a second. -

I wish I knew what to tell you. I'm seeing no slowness at all here and I just got home from Cincinnati and it worked fine from the hotel also. -
They are all worth SOMETHING. What is it? Year model and etc.

Great post. I agree with MOST everything you said. I'm not as negative about the handlebar mounted fairing as you are. I've had both and am fine with either. Never been to K&N Yamaha but I know that they are a well respected dealership. Would love to stop by there sometime. -
I think it's going to be a great rally. Beautiful country. I hope that people start making plans to be there.
