  1. The rest of the ride up through Zion, Bryce Canyon Ut and the Million Dollar Hwy in CO then home to South Dakota gave me much better milage but a lot of that was under 70 and sometimes much less. Overall the trip was around 2700 miles and I calculated an overall mpg of 36.7. This was my 190lbs and about 100lbs of gear. All went well other than my heal toe shifter's bolt falling out just as I rolled into Havasu City with 2 lanes of traffic behind me and stuck in high gear. Managed to get across the intersection and hold the shifter in place till I found a hardware store for a new bolt and LockTite. Also losing air in my rear shock. Had to put air in every morning. Filled to 37psi in the morning and by the next day was in the teens. How hard are these shocks to rebuild?
  2. Road from Santa Fe to Flagstaff AZ yesterday and then to Havasu City this morning on my ‘05 RSTD. Only getting around 30 mpg. Do the carbs need a sync or new jets or both? Please share your thoughts. Thanks
  3. I just installed a set of the Flanders Bars on my RSTD and read these suggestions for how to add the stock bar end weights. I did some experimenting and came up with this solution which seems to hold really well. Replaced the stock bolts with 5" 1/4 by 20 and 70207195024__08A54989-0316-4CB5-97EF-B9C3B4EC38DC.HEICused a short section of heater hose I had laying around which measured 13/16th OD and a Tee-nut. Really liking the feel of these bars and did a quick 15 mile trip just to get the feel. Wasn't dressed right for the 37*F and wind we had yesterday. Got home and put the cover on it as we are going to get hit with the white stuff again today. Hope someone finds this helpful. IMG_0788.HEIC IMG_0789.HEIC IMG_0791.HEIC
  4. Snow melted and it reached almost 52*F today so of course I commuted on the RSTD. Supposed to get 4-6 inches tonight and then mid 50s again Saturday and Sunday. Might get in a weekend ride before snow flies again next week.
  5. I'm blessed to live here and be able to ride the hills whenever time (and weather) allows. Crowds are not my thing either but when family comes this is a way we can all spend time enjoying bikes together so I make the exception.
  6. Seat is labeled for a Venture and has a bracket to work on the Tour Deluxe. I’m in Rapid City SD.
  7. Bought a 2005 RSTD which came with a new looking Mustang Seat including drivers back rest. Problem is I road this bike about 150 miles and my legs went numb. Love the look and backrest but have a 3500 mile trip coming up and am worried this seat isn’t going to work. With that said I am wondering if anyone would like to do a seat swap for a spell to let me test other seats and let you try the Mustang?
  8. My brother in law wants a bunch of his friends and family to do a Mesa AZ to Havasu to Bruce Canyon and finish on the million dollar hwy in May. There are 10 of us so far. This is why I picked up my 2005 RSTD. I get to ride there and back from South Dakota. He is then coming here for the Sturgis Rally. Other than that I plan to spend my weekends riding the Black Hills and surrounding area. If any of you are in the area and want to do a ride let me know.
  9. Welcome to Venture Rider. Please feel free to browse around and get to know the others. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
