Ive been recently looking into various dash cam setups to tinker on my bikes over the cold snowy months of otherwise motorcycle deprivement my wife tells me is called "winter" Anyone have any recommemdations /good experiences /absolutely stay away from /hey this looked good but melts in use /other thoughts about the dual camera "motorcycle dash cams"

Pipes I have left and right 4XY-1 and 4XY-2. This was off the RSTD. The 4XY-2 has a small crease dent from my landlord dropping something out of the loft on the pipe after it was off of the bike. If I can get the picture to upload I can show you - other than that they are dusty from sitting the last couple years.

Hi all - looking for a RSTD quick release passenger sissybar. Not super picky about condition as long as it will still go on and off the connection points for my 09 RSTD.

I have a couple of stock pipes in the garage - will look tonight to see what the stock numbers are (if i can find them) and will get back to you.

Yes I know that regular welds are stronger than JB weld - but as I no longer own an arc welder or acetylene welder any longer I needed to get it together to change a tire - so JB weld it is (for now). I will probably bolt it, grind it, and take it to a shop to have them put some nice welds on it before coating it with LineX. However - JB weld (properly mixed and set) has a strength of 3690 lbf/in2 - with placement of the angle iron over which will have the bike resting over top of the lifting bars resting on the jack, the only questionable torque point is the rear 3" lifter welds - where I would put the first set of bolts as soon as I have time to stop by the hardware store and get a good metal bit for my drill if i don't get to have it welded for me somewhere - but even then downforce of the bike should mostly be on the steel rather than the weld with it properly strapped with this configuration. Mostly was doing this way to get it together and change a tire. As always will have my bike ratchet strapped down, which should also help to keep downforce on my side for the first use before its properly finnished for the long term.

So I got tired of working on my RSTD on the ground, and had seen some of these adapters floating around, and even seen some for sale on eBay, but figured I could whip it up in the garage while my 3 year old was napping. Materials: 45" of 1 1/4" square steel tubing (left over from another project) 26" of cold rolled steel angle 1 1/4" each side 1 package of JB Weld (yep I'm being lazy) Setup: Step1: Measure 2x then cut the square rail in 4 pieces. 2 pieces 19" long for the side rails. 2 pieces 3" long for the rear lifts. Measure 2x then cut the angle iron into 2 pieces. 14" and 12" Step 2: Mark on the inside of the angle iron, for the placement of the long square rails, rails should be 11" from outside edge to outside edge, equal distance from the ends for each rail (centered?) See picture to see what I mean. Step 3: pick your favorite welding method. Since I had JB Weld sitting around, and the fun square rail I had available for this project would have produced some nasty vapors if I arc welded, I used the JB Weld... (And yes that is one of the reasons my buddies nicked me JB) Weld the long rails to the inside of the angle iron as shown in pics, and how you should have marked out by now. Step 4: if using JB Weld - wait 5 hrs till partially set. All types continue and turn over to set the short blocks even with the ends of the 12" angle iron, crossing perpendicular to the long rails. Weld in place. Now after waiting 24 hrs for JB Weld to fully cure, or immediately if you used traditional welding, you can use a rasp or grinder to clean up the sharp edges. This fixture will now sit under the RSTD or Venture (or several other Mamma Yama bikes that have low engine cases) with the wider section toward the front, seating at the point that the front floorboards are connecting down to the frame, with the long rails close enough together that they catch even the cheap black widow bike Jack's, and the back shorter crossbar with the short blocks on top will contact the frame just behind the welded on eye slots from the factory. This lifts it away along the bikes rails, and keeps it from hitting the kickstand, and the long rails separation keeps away from our bikes soft underbelly. Yay! Now I just need to get it all shaved down so it won't cut me, and I'm liable to spray it over with lineX to keep it nice. I have been looking at the Dunlop Elite 4 tires for my 09 RSTD. One thing I noticed looking at the pictures, is that the front tire has a channel all the way around the tire, right in the center, with the other grooves not quite coming all the way towards it - where the back tire has no center channel, and the grooves from the side slightly overlap the center in alternating placement. I'm looking at this and thinking 'less contact in my upright riding position for the front tire' and 'wont a straight channel like that grab grooves on the road?' Am I overthinking this? Or on the other hand they make a rear tire that would fit my front... How bad would that be? For the last 15k miles I've had a michalin Commander 2 rear and Dunlop 404 front - had been thinking to get matching tires this next time around, and hoping that E4's rain handling will be better than my previous rear. Thoughts/Advice? Thanks in advance

SO... I'm getting new gear and mostly new to me gear as I re-set for riding after the last 3.5 years bikeless. Sad its true, but now the dry spell is over... and well planning to take some long trips with my wife this spring/summer - starting with our anniversary trip next month. Long story short - I had these absolutely wonderful dry bags for packing on my old bike, and searched for them again for this refit - The Giant Loop Tillamook dry bags. This bag what I had before: [ATTACH=CONFIG]116488[/ATTACH] And looking online - found that the new version had many nice updates, more reinforcement for the tie downs, came with extra click straps to do so, a couple nicely reinforced handles as well as coming with the clip on shoulder straps that were before a secondary purchase. Well for the old one years ago - I spent $150 plus some extra for the shoulder straps to carry it as it had only the tie down areas and no handle. I called because they have a picure of the new version on that page, but the video at the bottom is a video talking about the old version - they confirmed it was the 'old version' being sold at that price. So I put my order in for 2 - and counted myself lucky that I found what I had before, at a good price. Today the package arrived and in it were 2 of the NEW version. I called again - just to be nice, as I had confirmed previously that I was paying for the version I had previously -- they told me I had received the right one, and that it is their site that is discontinuing carrying the bags. I asked why they would stop carrying such a nice and nearly indestructible product, their answer: the bags sit on the shelf and don't sell out much, as a result the company is looking to move that shelf space to products they can sell more often. SO -- ANYONE looking to do some long distance travel, and wants some premium add on bags that will keep their stuff dry for miles and miles, on the bike, on a kayak, on long hiking trips, etc. There are three sizes they are selling at half price... and they are the NEW version. When they are gone they are gone, but I'm getting the info to you nice folks here first - they have the Columbia, Tillamook and the Rouge all at half price. JB

Both have mama yamma passing bars with stock lights atm. Next step will be leds for the turn lights. But I know that will involve some wiring to get the running light effects I want ;-) Hopefully some of my info will help you out - I had a few thoughts on the kit you mentioned above - 1st I have seen it cheaper on Amazon - 2nd I shied away from it for our bikes looking at the wattage draw for the headlight being that much higher than the stock lights. Yes I want brighter and better focused lights, bit I also don't want to burn out my existing wireing and/or burn through fuses alot with my conversion. 3rd I have seen a few reviews of that light that showed a less than favorable light pattern - which basically boiled down to how much tinkering I wanted to do to make sure I'm not blinding other ppl on the road to be able to see myself. Even the budget lights I got will need to be aimed, but there was a couple bad reviews on those ones with the high beam being poorly cut off even when perfectly aimed for low beams. 1978 Yamaha DT125 Enduro - loads of fun till I broke the frame trying to jump it ... practice makes broken. 1980 Yamaha XV920RH Virago - sealed chain drive was AWESOME - Now owned by one of my friends in Chicago - still tearing up be streets. Now my baby - 2009 Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe - new to me this year and loving every moment (including the microburst snow the other day - hurray for snow mobile gear) First two pics not acctually my bikes, for instance the enduro was a broken mess last I saw it, and cant find pictures of them.. the RSTD though is parked outside from the ride to work today.

Tufftom4 -- I had very similar thoughts when I picked up my Springfield XDm - got rid of my Glock and never looked back. Only problem now is my wife wants to steal my XDm, but maybe that's a good excuse to go shopping

Agree that materiel has very little to do with wind noise - Most has to do with design of helmet - where the vents are, how they are shaped, less drag = less noise to start.... But secondly and I think more importantly, helmet FIT has a HUGE amount to do with wind noise. Proper fit to your helmet will reduce wind noise drastically even with the same helmet model, same person, same speed, same road etc. If your helmet isn't fitting correctly, I don't care what the model or manufacturer is, It Will Be Noisy. My . Helmets or Boots, a good fit determines if it works, or just is just an expensive thing to look pretty and give you blisters... or pretty blistering headaches. That said, love my LS2 Valient. Rides open with chin bar back for hot days, or full face closed for rain. Has plenty of space for my Cardo so tunes are wireless, and with face closed, is quiet enough for a good conversation with my com not turned up high. Only set me back 300 through Amazon (Cardo not included)
