The photo I posted above was taken with the phone upright like a normal photo would be taken. I can't figure it out, maybe I will try rotating a photo 1/4 turn clockwise before posting it, in fact I will do that right here in this post. LOL, I rotated the photo clockwise 1/4 turn in the apple photo program and now it posted it 1/4 clockwise like the way it is saved on my computer. I don't know. Let me try rotating it back in the photo program and post it a second time. For some reason it just won't post my photo upright, if I rotate it 1/4 turn to the right it posts the photo 1/4 turn to the right, if I post the photo straight up it posts the photo 1/4 turn to the left. Oh well it is one of the mysteries of the internet.

Been thinking about a small air compressor for the bike for that just in case you need to air up a tire, I think I am also going to pick up one of those dynaplug plug kits as well. Here is a photo of the air compressor I bought today at Northern Tool, it is $22.99 but I did get a $5.00 off coupon in the mail today for Northern Tool so after tax it cost me $19.07. It is a nice small unit that fits in the left saddle bag along with our rain coats and my ever present Bug Slide to keep the bugs cleaned off. It is nice and light weight so it should work out fine. Here is a link to Northern Tool for the compressor, there is a short video showing it so you get the idea of the size. https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200682087_200682087

Seems if I did not have bad luck I would not have any luck at all. I picked up a rusty screw in the rear tire and only have 1,400 miles on the bike. On our lunch trip last Friday there was a roofing truck pulling a trailer full of roofing materials and you could tell he was going to be dropping screws and nails they way he failed to properly secure his load. I tried to stay away from him and in totally different lanes as far from his as I could but as you well know he drove like a total idiot and was lane changing like crazy so he was continually in all three lanes of northbound U.S. 41. A couple of days later we went for a ride and I check the tire pressure and it showed 34 PSI on my digital tire gauge, the rear tire stem is at an odd angle and is sometimes hard to seat the chuck onto the stem but anyway I added a little bit of air and monitored the onboard TPMS and figured I just did not get the chuck seated the first time. No such luck I had the bike in the air and low and behold I found just the tip of what looked like a finishing nail even with the tread. Yeah right, I got what I thought was a nail out and it was not a nail but a rusty screw and it did not go in straight, hell no, it had to go in at an angle. So it looks like I will now be buying a new rear tire because some jack wad could not secure his load properly.

Every time I upload a photo it shows up 1/4 turn counter clockwise so the instead of the photo showing the subject straight up it shows the subject on its left side. I must be missing some setting somewhere but for the life of me I can't seem to find any setting that will correct the photos from rotating after I upload them. What am I doing wrong? My computer is a iMac the latest model (2017). The photos were taken with an iPhone 8Plus. The photos are being uploaded from the iMac to the site and on both the phone and the iMac they are not rotated when you open them. The only rotate that 1/4 turn counter clockwise on this site after they have been uploaded.

The floorboards in your video are the same floorboards my Star Venture has, the wall paper photo I have show a square board, it has no curve in the floorboard at all. I could see it dragging sooner than the curved floorboards. I can't figure out how to make a copy of the wall paper as I did the use photo as wall paper command and did not download the photo into the photo program on my iMac. I don't know where or how the iMac stores the wall paper photo. Maybe it is just and optical illusion of the photo but it sure does look square.

49 States or California CARB?
American replied to captdrac's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
I bet you on every Star Venture the eighth digit in the VIN number is a Y. That E in the VIN breakdown document that states: "E = 49 state Over 50cc w/Emissions" may be nothing more than for older bikes over 50cc that did not conform to California CARB emissions which means those bikes could not be sold new in California. Remember that VIN breakdown chart covers a lot of years worth of Yamaha motorcycles as well as other vehicles and watercraft Yamaha makes. -
I downloaded a photo of the Star Venture TC as my wall paper and that bike has a squad floorboard on it instead of the curved floorboards mine has, I wonder if those first demo bikes being pre production models had those square floorboards which would be larger and would likely drag the ground sooner. I have yet to drag a floorboard with my Star Venture Transcontinental.

Free two week period for Sirius XM radio for those who don't have a subscription, Runs starting May 14, 2018 for two weeks. If you have not used your Sirius XM on the radio it might take a couple of minutes or so for the radio to communicate with the satellite before it starts working. I tried mine in my garage and it took a couple of minutes to activate.

The Star Venture rear brake master cylinder reservoir is located inside the right lower fairing. If you look at the attached photo you will see a square hole to the left of the access panel on the right lower fairing, that hole allows you to see the brake fluid level. To remove that access panel you turn the bottom screw 1/4 turn and it should pull out, then you will slide the access panel downward a little bit and it will come off, do not pull straight out on the access panel or you may break the slots that hold it in place. If you need to add brake fluid you will have to remove the access panel. To reinstall the access panel you line up the slots and slide the panel upwards a little bit and then put the quarter turn screw back in and secure it with a quarter turn. I don't know why every picture I upload gets rotated a quarter turn any clues?

49 States or California CARB?
American replied to captdrac's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
The only thing I can find is bike manufactures are calling bikes without the charcoal evaporative emissions canister 49 state bikes as California requires that canister. Outside of that that there is no difference and like I said the Star Venture Transcontinental I bought in Florida has that charcoal evaporative emissions canister so it would be considered a California bike but I am think Yamaha has just simplified their assembly line and build them all with the canister now. Maybe the Bike manufactures still make smaller bikes without a canister for states outside of California to keep cost down due to lower profit margins on the cheaper bikes but from what I can find in the service manual every Star Venture has the charcoal evaporative emissions canister making it meet CARB requirements. I just thumbed through the manual again and I can't find anything showing a California emissions standard vs a 49 state emissions standard. -
49 States or California CARB?
American replied to captdrac's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
I don't know how any manufacture can claim the 49 state bike deal anymore because there are 5 to 7 liberal states who follow California when it comes to emissions standards. Harley does not even call theirs 49 state, they just add $299 to the price of the bike when CARB emissions are required. In Florida you don't have to pay for the CARB emissions garbage so the Harley does not come with the canister that is part of the CARB emissions. My 2018 Yamaha Star Venture Transcontinental does have that evaporative emissions canister on the bike. Even car manufactures quit trying to do a California emissions package and now everyone has to live with the CARB crap in their cars because it was not cost effective to have to build two different versions of the emissions for their cars. I see nothing in the service manual showing a none CARB certified emission system so that leads me to believe Yamaha has done the same as the vehicle manufactures and just build all their bikes to meet CARB emissions. Only one certification test has to be done that way saving money. Just remember you are going to be talking to some person sitting behind a desk somewhere, I highly doubt you will be patched through to an actual engineer. -
Sorry still not buying it, also you have to deal with all the registration and title issues in your home state and in Florida you will be paying sales tax to Florida on the bike when you register and title it. If you don't have a tag to transfer to the bike you are going to be charged a fee for putting a new vehicle on the Florida roads. A lot of land mines on that deal.

49 States or California CARB?
American replied to captdrac's topic in Star Venture and Eluder Tech Talk ( '18 - Present)
Mine was bought in Florida and it meets the California emmissions, I don't think Yamaha is building so called 49 state bike as there are about 5 to 7 other states that follow the California requirements. Harley is the only manufacture that sells a bike without the California emissions garbage on them but if you live in one of the states that require the California emissions then you pay another I think it is $299 dollars for the bike. -
This is a listing for an eBay auction starting at $24,000 dollars, you are not buying the bike for $24,000 dollars, you still have to pay tax, tag and title in your state. Who knows what the final price will be, it might sell to someone for $28,000 or $30,000 dollars by the end of the auction. This is not a $24,000 price and you walk out with the bike. There is also likely a reserve price on the bike as well.

Not a waste at all, I can put that paper manual right next to me while working. My computer is on a desk and who wants to try and use a tablet or phone while working on their bike? I prefer paper manuals as you can add notes when and where needed, can't do that with an online manual. Sure you can print the pages you need but now you have to keep printing every time you want a hard copy and if you want to save the print outs you have to make a notebook so you might as well just have the paper manual anyway. Online manual is nice but it dose not replace the paper manual for me.
