About old school Chop's and a VR member who was there....
Old Man Zzzz replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
I got into motorcycles, because when we were allowed to live off base, a buddy of mine getting out of the Navy rented a house and needed a roommate to help with the rent. He also was building a chopper literally in the kitchen. They were pretty hot commodity back then. So I immediately started the looking. The orange with the hard ass sitting on it(Lol)...in my early 20's, was my 1st motorcycle, mid 60's knucklehead, ex police bike, stripped down, customized, and no electric start. Used to spend time after work riding around a cul de sac until Igot comfortable riding it, just like a kid with his first bicycle. It was the one I used to get my MC endorsement inCA. Don't remember what happened to it to this day, think I sold it, or traded it, but couldn't be sure. The So Cal chopper was my 2d bike, late 50'spanhead, bought it prior to being transferred to WA state for duty. So when Igot my orders, Shipped my stuff, and me and the bike trekked our way from SanDiego to Whidbey Isl Wa. With a 1 gal peanut tank, and a gallon of gas strappedto the sissy bar, took about 4 days to make the trip. No issues the wholetrip. My kidneys were never the same after that trip...... Then got married, and thought it was the rightmove to let it go to another single dude who would appreciate it, so it sold back in 73 for $2500. If I recall I only paid $3K for it, these days, priceless..... Enjoy !!! -

Class system
Old Man Zzzz replied to Old Man Zzzz's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Its in the cards for sure.... if I get the class marginally working, will enjoy a little more riding. My work schedule only gives me a couple of days a week. -
Class system
Old Man Zzzz replied to Old Man Zzzz's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Ok, so finally got to ride the bike after reassembly, put about 45miles on it. So since I live off the beaten path, with the washboard dirt roads, I have to drive super slow to keep from bottoming out the front forks. So is there a work around to dampen the forks, or can you manually add air. Haven't pulled them apart yet. This was my first ride of the season. -
So, after pulling everything apart, checked the controller soldering, only found a couple of placenta touch up. Hooked it all back up, and still got the E4. So pulled the cover off the fender to look at the compressor and components, and find this bundle of wire all wrapped up and stuffed. So as it is There is no power to the system. It appears he spliced everything into 3 wires???? So I have a 4pin plug, and a 2pin plug that aren't connected to anything. So need to find connectors and see if I can rewire both ends back together. Then lets see what its doing, obviously it was pulled apart for a reason. Anyone got a spare controller, and manifold assy. ?

Cleaning and Bleeding Brakes
Old Man Zzzz replied to camos's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No, its not a banjo bolt, its a flare nut, that connects the tubing to meter valve. Its on right hand side, 1 bolt attaches it to the frame. Banjo on opposite side, which goes down to left caliper. Replacement tubing for next go around, resolved, still plenty of parts left out there, -
Cleaning and Bleeding Brakes
Old Man Zzzz replied to camos's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks Puck, Yes, it is really easy to access once you know where to look, and the nut is not rounded off. And just 3 cycles got rid of the air. Just checked, still got brakes, so the MC rebuild is working well. Been researching Ebay, found a couple of used tubes, waiting for response from sellers to make sure the nut is not rounded off. Been studying the Class system in the Service manual, and the posts here, trying to plan a procedure for troubleshooting the system. I'm getting an Error 4, which by all accounts says I need to break down the controller and reflow the solder joints. Pulled the cover of the system on the rear fender, all looks well, is there any tests I can do without the controller plugged in, that will confirm the compressor and Solenoids are working? So with all things said the bike is about ready, and I should be riding in a couple of weeks. Its only got 26K on it, and I've been fixing cracked fairing mounts, rubber bushings, other cosmetics, motor purr's, so happy with the purchase so far. -

Yes, the that snaps over the top of the pads. Yes looking for that tube now that goes up to the metering valve, don't want to rely on V Grips forever. Troubleshooting the Class system now, that's the last issue I have with the bike..,. for now. Thanks...Steve -

Ok, for an update, if the vise grip is to small, get a bigger one. Finally got the fitting loose, (perseverance), bled it several times and now I have brakes.....: happy65: -

Cowpuc, Thanks for the tip, found the nut, and valve, but so did the previous owner, as the nut is now a vise grip nut. Going to have to remove the fairing to get a good grip on it. Tried small v grips but couldn't get the leverage. And its stuck hard....I might get to ride this summer.... Only home 2 days a week.. Now just need to find part number for that tube... -
Cleaning and Bleeding Brakes
Old Man Zzzz replied to camos's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Clive, thanks, pretty much did all what you suggested, kept the reservoir full during the process, so will go at it again this morning. Got another bottle of dot3. The part I was talking about on the front left side is I believe the anti dive unit, its bleeder sets higher then the caliper, and appears to draw off the front caliper for fluid, so will try bleeding thru that for the front brake. Cleaning and Bleeding Brakes

Ok, so some of this makes sense, but is confusing as well, I have an 83 VR, and just did a Rear MC rebuild, I now have some brake, (soft), but not satisfied. I just looked for a bleeder valve in the steering head area and didn't see one. But I did notice that the front left caliper shares a hose with the front left fork, is that to be included in the bleed process? Should I use that one vs the caliper, as it sits more vertical? I have a vacuum bleeder, first time using it, and went thru a whole can of brake fluid. Still going to have to scrub my garage floor ....
