I haven't had any issues with truckers and I use my CB quite a bit. Always use it for communicating with my road guards when I am leading a charity ride (which is average of twice a month). And use it often when traveling. Most of the time I am on a channel like 3 or 4, and sometimes 33 or so. Truckers are on 19. I will get bleed over every once in a while, maybe once a year. I have communicated with truckers before as the old fat guy on a purple motorcycle, and get along with them fairly well. If my RSV had FRS, I would use it for sure. But it is equipped with a CB and I am okay with that.

I concur. And assume you are referring to the inner front faring. Have done it once to paint and now in process of swapping body panels/parts on 2 bikes. So, later this week will be getting around to the front fairings. Not really looking forward to it, other than doing an audio upgrade. The rear fender is no walk in the park either.

HD RK mufflers on RSV.....
YamahaLarry replied to YamahaLarry's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Got them looking now, and will be getting them free (sort of) if they can find a set without cat. Just got to screen print their logo on a handful of shirts provided by them. So, i will have to spend a couple hours making a screen and squeezing some ink. -

Thanks! I will let them know tomorrow that later model exhausts are ok. Right now I have them looking for exhausts removed from 08 and older. Doubt that any of the HDs here in Alabama will be the CA models. -
Pretty cool place though.

HD RK mufflers on RSV.....
YamahaLarry replied to YamahaLarry's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
So, are you saying that the newer model mufflers, like maybe 2015 and up, do NOT have the cat material in them? I spoke with my primary contact today at the local HD store and they are gonna look in their stock pile of pull offs to see what they have and get back with me. I have pretty much worked out a deal to get them free. Just got to screen print some logos on a few shirts that they are going to supply. -
HD RK mufflers on RSV.....

Yeah, I have been hearing that around 09 they started adding it, and have watched a couple videos on how to remove. It is messy, but it can be broken up, but looks like a chore I'd rather avoid. Plus as mentioned, I am not sure each side will have the same flow rate. I found the below clamps on eBay, just not sure if they are wide enough to cover the header pipe as some have mentioned on here. HD Chrome Exhaust Clamps -
Rode PCH a many a mile back in the 70s on my Honda 350, and also in my 1971 Galaxie 500. Took the family out there in 2004 and 2005 and spent a couple more days driving it. Those times it was in a Ford Expedition one trip and a Lincoln Town Car the next, so not as much fun. Have I ever told you that I love your videos?

Tell him you'll give him 200 bucks and an autographed Three Doors Down poster.

Will be putting RK mufflers on my 09 as I swap certain components between the 99 and 09 and the 09 currently has the super quiet stock exhaust. Have found a few sets on eBay from $45 or so on up to the $100 range. Some with free shipping, some not. Couple of questions for those that have done this: The clamp: I understand that a wider clamp is used to cover of the exposed header pipe, and I would assume perhaps a stainless steel for appearance. Has anyone found them local or have you had to order them? I've found a few on eBay that would probably work. They are for a 2" pipe, and I would assume that they would close up tight enough. Catalytic muffler: Have read that Harley began maybe somewhere around 2009 to put catalytic converter in the right side muffler. I have watched a couple videos online on how to remove it. Doesn't look difficult, but I would think that even once removed, that the back pressure would vary from left to right side exhaust. I guess this is 2 questions in one. Anyone know exactly what year HD began putting the converter in the exhaust, and are there any risks in purchasing exhaust with catalyst and removing it? Reason I ask about removal of converter is that I have a great relationship with the local Harley dealership. They even call me to lead/escort most their rides and give me freebies for doing so. Got my last set of wide white wall Dunlops from them FREE. So, I am pretty sure that I could probably get a set of pull-off mufflers if they have any lying around. Seems I always start out on a simple venture (no pun intended), and end up making it a long journey. Added tasks are growing. Audio upgrade + valve adjustment + lower front end (maybe) + exhaust.

Saw this a year or so back and have seen it maybe a half dozen times since. Still scratching my head.

Ride like a BOSS would be more like it. Good thing you were in your nice flat front yard instead of my very undulated yard. Would so love to get up the Muskegon area some day. I have an old USCG shipmate that lives there. He visits me from time to time and I owe him at least one. He has a nice flat farm somewhere just outside Muskegon. But seriously, love every one of your's and your bride's videos. Now, get out and ride!!!

We need a special library for cowpuc videos. Enjoyed your parking lot slow rolling, and I agree. I have very little issues with either of the 2 bikes I have slow rolling in the parking lot. I have noticed a significant difference between a 2nd Gen and a Road King in doing a quick u-turn on the 2 lane highway. If you don't feather the clutch/rear brake just right, the 2nd Gen (when I am in control) has a little more tendency to have that feeling that it wants to take a nose dive, where as the Road King doesn't. I am a computer programmer and all those how comes are distant to me, but maybe it has something to do with center of gravity or something. And yes, I do have to do u-turns fairly often in setting up intersections during all these charity rides. The 2nd Gen's turning radius is good enough to handle it, but it does make my backside pucker up at times. The Ultra Classic must not be very good at these turns, not sure. But I have seen an awful lot of those guys put them on the concrete/pavement in the past few years. And it may just be a case of weekend riders and usage of front brakes. When it happens, it's almost always a HD Ultra Classic.

My 09 will only be the silver/black for the rest of this week. Then I will be putting both bikes on jacks and swapping out all the painted parts (what we used to call tins). And in a couple weeks, it will be HOK Voodoo Violet Kandy. The 99 will then be silver/black and will be selling it in the upcoming months. Still a great bike and runs fantastic. The only thing wrong with the 99 is a small tear in the right front edge of drivers seat. I keep it covered with a fresh piece of black Gorilla tape. Happy riding and be careful on those slow rolling turns. This bike is a little heavy feeling on the front end in those turns. My 99 is lowered 3/4" at the forks and running 130-90s on the front and that seems to help some. I am going to set the 09 up the same way during all the swap over.

Fuel tank screw fell out
YamahaLarry replied to bjstone193's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Sounds like you are talking about the right front bolt behind the steering that holds the tank on. It should line up fairly easily. If you haven't tried it already, remove the bold that holds the rear of the tank (just under front edge of drivers seat) and then I see no reason why it wouldn't align. Have removed my tank many times and ever hand alignment issue, but I always put the front 2 side bolts in first. -
Trying to install LED Headlight
YamahaLarry replied to Shadowhawk's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not doubting at all what you are saying, but the bulb I have does put beam down the road much further than the standard H4 and with my cataracts, I can see just fine with them, where as I couldn't with the standard bulb. So far I am please, and haven't checked the exact wattage the bulb is pulling. I may do that when I have the bike tore down next week. But, it was advertised as 40 watts. On high beam, it does throw beam further down the road, but it's not that noticeable unless there are maybe trees or something direct in the path. As far as making the road move visible on high beam, it is minimal. -

Just a typical H4 (9003) 6000K bulb conversion kit. Cool white color I think, maybe that's what the 6000K means. Best I can recall, it has the same power draw as a 40w bulb. Can't recall the brand name, but bought highest rated one I could find on Amazon at the time. Most of these I think are Chinese made so the brand names are pretty much meaningless. I didn't pay but I think $60 to $65 for a 2 pack. It has a stainless steel construction and a fan mounted to the back, so you will have to remove the rubber boot that is on the back of your sealed beam. I have been thru some pretty hard rain storms since installing and have had no issues (yet). When you turn your key on, you will hear the fan. Will have to split the front faring to mount the control driver box or whatever it's called. I wire tied mine to one of the existing cable bundles away from the audio cabling. It's been a year and maybe 15k miles ago and still working just fine. Much more light, especially right in front of the bike. Brighter and a white color. Not much difference between high and low beam. I keep it on low all the time and still have people flash their lights at me at times at night. -
Bought one just like that in September with a few more miles than yours. Also have a 99. Love these bikes. Very dependable and for the most part, easy to work on.

Could watch those cowpuc videos all night. My brother is supervisor of a tire company and I have used the "black" stuff. Works great. But last couple times I've done tires myself I used Lemon Pledge to lube the bead. It seems slicker to me, plus it smells good. Doesn't do much for sealing any scratches in the bead though, and I have a few of those on the old 99 RSV. So, I usually have to throw a little air in the tires (mostly rear) once a month or so.

That's why I own a pole chain saw. Too old be be climbing trees, or even standing on a ladder with a saw. Just wait til my oldest son comes for a visit and pull out the pole chain saw like I'm gonna use it, and end up just supervisor for him.

Overheating is a concern I have in using the Clairion amp. Not concerned a lot with power draw on the battery or charging system. I think since changing to all LED running/head lights I have gained some to spare.

Good info. I have had those apart once during the painting of the 99 a few years ago and didn't recall the space being so limited. For some reason I was only concerned with the space under the hood. Glad you brought this to my attention because the Kicker magnets seem to look fairly large in the pics online.

I will run out there for a little while. I live 15 minutes away. As a matter of fact, we will be doing a bike ride out of Barber's this coming Saturday for childhood cancer and will do a few laps around the track before heading to the Birmingham Zoo.
