I'm afraid the misses of 38 years would castrate me if I went out and purchased a brand new bike at this point of our lives. Most all of that is way over my head. Ear buds are not an option for me most times, such as when I am leading bike rides (which is very often). I am using my in helmet headset (which has worse sound quality than the speakers) for CB communications with some of my road guards. I am just wanting to be able to turn up the speakers a little louder than the factory speakers without the bass muffling so bad. Not looking for great bass though, cause I know i won't come out of a 4 inch speaker.

Someone mentioned above you need 2 amps which isn't true. All you need is a 4 channel amp. I have been looking at a few and thinking of going with the Clarion XC1410 or Alpine KTP-445U. The Clarion is a max of 50 watt per channel X 4 = 200 watt max while the Alpine has very similar specs and price range for both is $120 or so. Pairing that with new marine grade Polk DB402 speakers. I like the Kicker speakers, but they are almost twice the cost and not sure if the gain, if any, is worth it. The Polk are rated at 45 watt continuous and 135 watt peak I ride a lot and am always listening to my music during riding, so this is very important to me. Concerning the mounting of the amp, I don't think it will be a problem. It should fit under the front cowling nicely. My biggest concern with it would be overheating, especially during the summer months, but considering it isn't a real powerful amp, perhaps it would be just fine. Most important to me is non-distorted, non-muffled volume. While I enjoy clarity when listening to music while working or relaxing, when I am riding, give me and Skynyrd volume.

I think front speakers would be ok if you got caught in a down pour, but maybe not the rear speakers if these are the paper like construction. You would also have to be a little cautious if washing with garden hose or similar. In the next few weeks, I too will be changing out the speakers in my 09 RSV and considering either the Kicker or Polk Audio. Kicker is a little more expensive, but from all I have read, have a better range especially for the bass which is always issue for small speakers. Kicker is also a little higher rated for peak watts, not that our little radio will reach that output.

I would think that ethanol would evaporate at a slower rate than gasoline since it has a much higher boiling point. Granted, the amount of ethanol in gasoline is supposed to be less than 10%, but it is enough that it raises both the boiling and flash points. Given that, I do not believe that ethanol would have more clicks due to evaporation.

The 99 RSV I've been riding for several years typically will click maybe 1 or 2 times max after an overnight sit. I have noticed on the 09 that I recently purchased, that it is more. It varies, but sometimes it will click maybe 8, 10 or 12 times. I have looked all around the carbs trying to see if there is a leak and can't find one and have never smelled gas. I have no idea how much gasoline that actually equates to that is being pumped with that number of clicks or where the fuel may be going.

He and his wife rode down on their trike and rode in the breast cancer ride. If any of you have the urge to purchase a lottery ticket, need to get Woody to make the purchase. The guy racked up on door prizes. Great meeting you my friend, and your CB from the back of the pack was a tremendous help.

Trying to install LED Headlight
YamahaLarry replied to Shadowhawk's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Agree with djh3 comments above. After doing research, I decided to go with LED bulb that fits right into the existing headlamp. Just have to make sure the cooling fan will clear everything. Was an easy install after splitting the faring. -
Welcome. And today, I just sent my payment for another year. Rule #1 already broken. No pics??? And forum is unbiased toward makes, with the exception of Harleys.

That's nice to know. I have both, calipers and 0"-1" micrometer. -
Valve adjustment kit....

I wish I still had access to a surface grinder. Used to be the programmer for a machine shop. That was a "handy" job to have. I am really really really really really really really hoping that I am within tolerances. If not, maybe I can find local or at least get them delivered within a day or two. -
Valve adjustment kit....

Sounds good to me. If you don't mind, just private message me the details. Will need to try to get it all set up for use beginning the weekend of Oct 6th. In the mean time, I am gonna double check with the local dealerships to make sure they stock the shims. -

Thanks, just let me know. I am going to check the the 2 local Yamaha dealers to make sure they stock shims in case I need them. If you don't have one, maybe someone on here will read this and be willing to loan/sell/rent one to me. -
The '09 I purchased a couple weeks ago is having fuel pump issues. Could be the points, relay or pump. Not sure at this point. Sometimes when I turn on the switch the pump will kick in but sometimes not. When it first happened, didn't realize I had an issue til I got about 1/4 mile down the road and engine was starving for fuel. It died and while still coasting, I popped clutch a few times and it started back up and ran file to and from work, a 44 mile trip. Did same thing again on Sunday and on Monday, so I have parked it and riding the '09 and will address the issue in the next few days. But from all I have read online, seems the points may be the culprit. I have checked the same part listed above on eBay and it says it's not compatible with our 2nd Gen Ventures. Is it, or is it not? Here is a current link.... Universal Fuel Pump Kit 18-4615

On the weekend of Oct 6th, I am gonna begin the swap of all the painted parts from my '99 custom painted bike the the '09 I purchased a couple weeks ago. I am estimating that this is going to take me 2 solid weekends and the week nights in between because I will be going thru everything pretty thorough in the reassembly, and buffing the painted parts from the '99 before installing them on the '09. I would also like to adjust the valves while I am at it. Like everyone, I hope all the tolerances are on point and no shims have to be changed out, but the way things go for me, that will probably not be the case. I have read in time past on here where someone has a shim/tool kit that they either rent or loan out to us unfortunate souls that don't own such, with the unfortunates paying shipping and whatever else. If someone can provide me the info on who may offer that service, I would at a minimum be temporarily grateful, and perhaps forever grateful. Thanks in advance!!!!!

Quicksilver Oil 10W-40 & 20W-50 JASO rated
YamahaLarry replied to Du-Rron's topic in General Tech Talk
Used QuickSilver many years during my bass fishing days and owner of several outboards. They are a leader in outboard oils. I may try it, but so far I have been happy with my T6. -
Pretty sure that most a alloy wheel manufacturers balance the wheels. They are pretty much balanced before the final high speed machining in the lathe. But I have noticed drilled dimples in alloy wheels and have been told that it was weight removed to balance the wheel. Most of the time, I mount and balance (no beads for me) my own tires and have always aligned the tire dot with valve stem. And there is an obvious weight difference when using a standard short stem or maybe a stainless 90 degree stem.
