  2. Aaaarrrgggg, I wish I had. Oh well, a new one is in the mail to me now. Thanks for offering up a Possible solution.
  3. I passed right through Columbus... I'm home now in Richmond, VA. But, thanks anyway.
  4. Im going to be near Pittsburgh tomorrow.. Ill see if anyone has one.. THANKS
  5. I feel stupid for not having already done this.. ill do the extra work.... THANKS

  7. Im thinking im gonna try this.. The nut at the end of the cable is still there, i just need the part that rotates.
  8. 104 to both of you.. im already using a GPS so i can get my speed, but im pissed my mileage isnt going up. Anyone else have an idea... i just need the inner cable.
  9. 83 VR Im in Indianapolis and ive lost the inner cable of my speedometer. What can i do to fix this? Ive read something about a NAPA part, but i dont know that it was for my bike. It was lost on the highway... im NOT going out there to look for it. Any input appreciated..
  10. Aw go on, like you said its only $4... then send me 2 clips you know you want to..
  11. Is the carb choke rod that goes between the left and right banks of carbs suppose to be held on with 2 clips? It looks like it has grooves for them. Anyone know what size clip their suppose to have if their suppose to have them?
  12. Hey all, I'm prepping for a 2 week motorcycle trip but I'm having an issue with my turn signals. I'm thinking that their blinking slower and I've seem them just stop blinking. The lights remain on, but they don't blink. I've taken out the relay behind the left turn signal and didn't see any problem with that. I've read that it could be the hazard switch, but I don't see how to clean/disassembled it. Anything else??? I would prefer it not failing while on my trip.
  13. How much do you need? I have some left over from when I did mine that I could send you... Just pay for shipping of course.
  14. Thanks for the comments.. Yesterday was a great weather day.. No rain. Although, on Saturday I did ride through the rain for a poker run. I thought the same thing on the carb overflow hoses.. I looked for it, but never saw any drainage. I wonder if it did overflow, I didn't see it, it corrected itself, and the plug fouled from then on.. Hhhmmmm I did not notice any difference with the bike when the fan was switched off. I have never liked how close to overheat the bike would get before the fan switched on, so I installed a switch to catch it early. Im gonna replace my plugs, drain the carbs and see how it runs. Oh yeah, I also lost my temp gauge yesterday. The gauge works, so I think I need the sensor.
  15. So my ride to Arlington was nice, 40 MPG. 345 miles today. After I leave an go west on 66, at some point I loose 1 or maybe 2 cylinders. FYI info. I had to fill up shortly after Arlington, but I don't know if I got bad gas or not. The exact time I started loosing power isn't quite known. So heres the pic of my plugs.. 1 and 2 look to me to be somewhat too rich 3, very wet 4, maybe a bit lean. Please comment if you think otherwise. All the plugs gave a nice spark, they all looked of the same intensity. WHAT WOULD YOU DO NOW??.. I hope to ride to Louisville in 2 weeks so I would like to get it fixed now, test it.. then ride in relative comfort that it was taken care of. Here MAY be another part of the puzzle... I only used it occasionally, but I do have a radiator fan turn on switch.. Could I have run the battery down, weakened the spark too much causing the plug to foul?? I don't think so, but I'm trying to think of everything so you have good information. My digital volt meter shows constantly at 13.8 to 14. What should I do now??? My fuel filter has maybe 9000 miles on it..
  16. My first thought was the same thing as Flyinfool.. I blew backward against the vent line to insure air would get into my tank and then blew the other way to insure the check valve was working.. Please let us know if you figure this out.
  17. Thanks for taking the time to tell us about this.. Wow, that could have gone so much worse...
  18. I would give it a very good degreasing and scrubbing. Do a slow drive around the neighborhood to slosh the oil around inside the engine. Bring it home and put it on the sidestand and start looking for where its wet. I say a slow drive so the leak isn't spread by the air while riding.. Do you think you could still ride it and just keep oil handy for Bike Week? You might also consider putting a dye in the oil to help find the leak.
  19. I was missing keys for my side bags, helmet locks and trunk, and i wanted a spare ignition key. I got all the lock assemblies out (tumblers), put a blank key in and was able to mark the blank so I could cut my own with a dremel. My ignition key wasn't a smooth operation so I didn't want my local Ace Hardware to make me one and i couldn't find any numbers for any of the locks.
  20. Well everyone.. I can report GREAT success with Bars Leaks. I'm back from my ride of 935 miles, and 2146 miles since my engine rebuild and I have NO leaks.. The oil level remained constant and the reservoir level rose and fell with the engine temperature and NO off white goo in the airbox.. My course was: Richmond VA, Axton VA, Blue Ridge parkway to Linn Cove Viaduct, Linville Falls, Mt. Mitchell, stopped to help a Harley rider whos stator failed, Maggie Valley NC to see Wheels through Time, Biltmore Estate, Weyersville VA, Appomattox VA and finally back to Richmond... Right now I'm putting on new brake and clutch lines to hopefully help with the stopping. This year I expect way more rides as my projects have started to come to an end.. Any other projects will just have to wait for the winter time layup.. Thanks everyone for your help and a special shout out to Steven G for taking the time to recommend Bars Leak.
  21. As promised, I got the compression results this afternoon.. 1 151 2 158 3 159 4 159 Ive put nearly 1000 miles on it since the rebuild, my issues have been minor, EXCEPT, the coolant loss. Per the suggestion of Steven G., I put Bars Leak in the coolant and have driven it many times hoping to work the sealant into wherever the leak was. Well, I'm satisfied with my observation that the leak has slowed. This coming weekend I'm taking a MC trip and will continue to watch my coolant level.
  22. I haven't see any bubbles. I haven't done a compression test yet, i was allowing them to wear in first. But, I am at the point of doing it. I'll do it this weekend and get back to you. I've ridden the bike to work again and am keep close eye on things.. I'll let you all know how it works..
  23. Thanks all for the help.. Last night I pressurized the system, but ultimately I didn't find or hear anything... I feel better for having tried. I know I could do more, but the probability of finding exactly what the problem is is diminishing. I've decided to go with Steven G.s suggestion and put some Bars Leaks in. I've ridden it to work today and am keeping an eye on the fluid level.. Hopefully I'll have a positive outcome. Marcal, thanks for the reminding me about the spark plugs.. I really didn't have those in mind.
