  1. I have a 99 RSV and my seat looked good but always caused me problems. Thanks to members here that told me about Rick Butler and his ability to redo seats. Sent email then talked to him when I sent seat. Got it back yesterday put it on rode about 20 minutes and back just to see how it felt great is not good enough to say how good it felt. Today wife and I despite winds blowing and temps just reaching 60 degrees in the sun we rode. Again wow what a difference it made he did a super job. Looking forward to our next ride hope it is a long one now I can ride in comfort. Thanks Rick for a great job at 69 years old wanted to keep riding but dang my seat was just not right but now it is great. I would recommend anyone looking to get their seat redone to contact Rick Butler and he has ad in member section you will be glad you did. Good price and a great understanding of how to make a seat comfortable to ride on. Thanks again Rick !
  2. Well the ticking noise is gone as I posted what I found and did to get it gone. Rode today and wife and I talked along the ride with no static or ticking what a nice ride day. Maybe what I found will help someone with their noise(ticking) problem. Thanks for those of you that gave me directions along the way.
  3. Well this is really a two part post clicking noise and bolts that hold light bar in place. First once I finally got the two bolts out (liquid wrench saved the day soaked for about two days) I got fairing off and starting to look seems there is a plug off the radio as a matter of fact there are two both small wires coming off radio. One had a long pug in like mic plug that you would plug for say speakers from TV but one wire with long plug female had small male plug going into it plug about two to three inches long. When I unplugged that the noise quit. There was a smaller plug but it had no effect one way or the other. No sure where that large plug went maybe to CB which I never use but it stopped the clicking noise and when you plugged it back in wow it started again. Now I think the noise will be gone have not ridden bike yet but tested with wife and my helmet no noise in either with motor running. Last but not least put fairing all back on then light bar (here is where the problem started) Those bolts that were so hard to break loose would not start no way spent about thirty minutes trying they would start a little then stop. Finally two choices drill out holes and put regular bolt in with nut on back or try to work them in a little at a time my guess the stainless cutting new threads into aluminum. That was what I did and it took about an hour to turn bolt a little and back then forward and back finally got them in and tight however question will they come back out time will tell if I have to go back into faring again. Sure hope that is a long time off lol. Anyway next ride will tell if noise is gone if not we will just not talk on a ride unless something better comes along and with my loss of some hearing it may not matter. It has been a real mess but I guess a good riding day will put it all in the past or at least I hope so. Hope some of this helps someone as to clicking noise. My bike is a 99 RSV
  4. A friend of mine has I think a 2000 Yamaha RSV and he had short inseam and was going to sell his bike then he got a Corbin seat and had them narrow the front now he sits flat footed and riding every day. I would go the seat route just me as fooling around with lowering might cause bike to not ride correct. He said the seat saved his day just having a ball now riding. He sent his seat back for them to narrow but it you tell them up front they will narrow it before they send it to you. If you want his ph let me now he will be glad to talk to you about it. Larry
  5. I have tried taking all the bolts out of fairing but it still will not move up light bar too close it has to come forward and up just will not do that. I am going to try the ball head allen wrench and see if that will work sure hope so running out of things to do to get that right bolt out. Thought about dine-o-mite but makes my ears ring lol. Thanks for all suggestions will continue to work on that bolt.
  6. Trying to remove the two bolts that hold running light so I can get fairing off. One on left facing lights broke loose but the right side different. Not enough room to get 6mm T bar in the bolt far enough to get super hold and so far what amount of hold I got has yielded nothing bolt stuck. Sprayed with liquid wrench no help. Seems it need a allen wrench bent just a little so it will go into bolt deep enough to stand the amount of pressure needed to break it loose can not find right tool so may have to try and heat and bend allen my self. Any help or suggestions appreciated just no room if you try to move allen upwards to go into bolt hole it hits bottom of fairing and I don't want to mess that up. Very tight spot so if anyone has had this problem and got an idea please pass it along to me. Will try again this afternoon to get it loose.
  7. A guy told me about the ball allen wrench so will look for one tomorrow and yes I would give thirty for a lowering kit as they are a B to get too and I hope that one does break loose. I think I can find the problem with the clicking if I get into the front but time will tell. Today it was less than it had been so putting the grease in that one fitting had to help so once front is off maybe things will get easier. Thanks
  8. What I had been hearing was a ticking sound in our helmets mine more than my wife's that sounded like spark plug noise that you use to hear in old radio's long ago before the resister plugs came out. Yesterday when I got the windshield off but could not get the two bolts out that held the lights to remove the front cover I could see down into the front where radio is mounted. I took screw driver and pushed the connection that come out of radio and plugs into all the wires going to speaker and such. Ticking noise stopped but still had noise some at high volume like static. So finally with some effort got front cover out to where I could get my hands down into it and un plugged the connection and then put dialectic grease on it and put it back in place. That seems to have helped a lot so ride today will tell if the ticking is back but in that connection and group of wires the noise is coming from there. If I could get front off I could maybe look more but those bolts are so close that when I tried to get allen wrench T handle to fit into the right one could not get straight on it and it was stuck very tight so sprayed it and left it put everything back on will try again. Will ride today to see if ticking is gone sure hope so wife and I like to talk as we ride and look at country side. Were you able to get T handle straight onto the bolts holding the lights if so any tricks I need to know about?
  9. Thinking about a Corbin seat front and back for my 99 RSV anyone used these seats on a RSV if so need input. My wife feels that the Yamaha seat sits her too much forward and I would like center of gravity lower. I put a Corbin on a 1500 Gold Wing once and wow it was a huge difference center of gravity dropped and the bike rode and handled like a dream. Could not even tell wife was on behind so give me some input if you have a Corbin and a RSV My bike is a 99 RSV thanks.
  10. Thanks to those of you that gave me help when I was fixing leaking valve cover. Job is done and no leaks now. I decided to let dealer adjust valves a little to much over my head but thanks for the info on that. Now I have a question I have been in search of why I have a ticking sound in my intercom when I try to talk to my wife so was going to take windshield and front cover off to check wires. Most of it I had done till I found out you had to take the light bar off to get front cover off and those two bolts were in a place under front cover below head light where I could not get them out so need help in how to do that. I got one loose but the other never moved and there is no room under the head light to get tool to it so never got front off. No room at all. Is there a special tool needed allen wrench worked on left one facing head light but the right side I never got loose. I sprayed it with liquid wrench and it did not break loose and I guess it takes a tool that will bend to get fully into it then be able to apply lots of pressure. Anyway did get it to where I could pull connection loose from radio and put dialectic grease in it helped some but still have some noise so I feel must take front all the way off so I can get to things better any suggestions appreciated. If those two bolts will come out the two lights on bar will lay down out of the way or it looks that way. All seems to have come from Yamaha that way in 99. Front cover has to come forward and the light bar is stopping that from taking place. My bike is a 99 RSV. Thanks
  11. Rode in law enforcement years back when we had both tank shift and then finally foot shift and the wobble that we experienced was at high speeds and then we would brake with foot brake just a little and hit the throttle at same time finally it would come out of it. Back home for a new change of uniform lol and shop at that time said there was a hair line crack in the frame and they would have to strip bike down do find it but it is real let me tell you even back at that time I was a young man and it really scared me. Several officers I knew had same experience so Harley has had this problem for years. I am 69 and this was when I was in my late 20's. Note Harley never has a problem hear them tell it but they do and the last Harley I owned was an 02 Ultra Classic that would just quit never with warning on a hot day. This time when it quit the guy behind us was not paying attention and he ran over us. Wife had to have knee replacement from that wreck and no never a Harley again. On a Yamaha RSV today riding two up and enjoying the ride.
  12. Well new gasket in hand now waiting till I am rested to redo the job. This is a simple question what king of spark plug wrench do you need to get plugs out. I have several but all too big to fit down into the hole where plugs are so have to buy a new different one. Also about this valve adjustment is there anywhere that has a step by step process to do that job. Still wish someone would do a video of these jobs so we can look at each process as it is being done. I think someone would make some money if they produced one for sale sign me up for the first one. I had one for Gold Wing which was great take computer out to shop follow directions job done right. Guess I have more than one question another came to mind the front cover you have to take the braces off what size tool do I need for that job. Thanks in advance not sure anyone is near me we live near Lake Martin central Alabama that could help an old friend that use to do my work has passed on and dam I miss him a great friend and retired mechanic. 13. As for the valve adjustment this bike has about 62,000 my first Yamaha so can you tell me if that is enough miles for adjustment bike runs great. The inserts that hold valve cover on were not seeping or leaking any it was at bottom of gasket along the rear side. My goof up first time to not check here as to what to use to hold gasket and wife and I had a lot of problems getting it in place so we probably caused the leak now which is just behind where the water hose goes into top between the rear valve cover. New gasket tomorrow will try one more time. Two questions is there any way to make putting it back on easier and on right side the two screws that hold the chrome cover on is there any easy way to get front one on. I dropped it have to get another one it went to who knows where we never found it. My fingers are way too big and my wife's are just like me old hands. We are about 60 miles from shop so was going to try one more time to put gasket on. We lol did change the place of leakage from bottom rear to beside the water intake hose maybe this time we will get it right. Thanks to everyone for their advise. Seeing
  14. Well I tried to fix a leak around rear valve cover on 99RSV. Cover was hard to get off with little clearance and working on my knees did not help. Took my time cleaned the cover the gasket seems O.K. so I must have used the wrong sealer. I used permatex in groove where gasket goes in and had I stopped for sec. when after putting gasket on it would fall out I should have known that was wrong. But with help of my wife we got it back on and it looked like it was fitting all around. So off for a short ride to come back and find out more of a leak than before. Seems to be seeping just behind the water connection hose in middle so now question do I take it to shop let them fix it or try again and use different sealer. If the gasket had stayed up it might have worked O.K. but with it trying to fall off not good. Also the valve cover was hard to get off wonder how they do it in shop with so little clearance as you don't want to mess up new gasket putting it back on?? Any help appreciated.
  15. My 99 RSV I noticed yesterday had cracks below carbs I thought it might be insulation around the feed tubes from carb to engine but it must what you are talking about. How hard is it to repair that I know tank comes off have been that far but is it worth doing or having a shop do it? Engine runs great now but I am guessing as bad as the cracks are I am going to start to have problems. Any info would be appreciated. email seeing48@yahoo.com Thanks Larry Collins
  16. New to Yamaha Venture have a 99 in great shape but has a ticking sound much like the old sound of spark plugs in AM radio if not resistor type. If anyone has had this and found the problem please let me know my wife and I can still talk while riding but then I have to turn volume down to keep from hearing the ticking sound. Also in her head set but not as loud as in mine. Standard radio that comes on Yamaha is what we have nothing extra. All we want to do is have silence if we are not talking to each other.
