New Poll for all MK1, MK2, RSTD, RSV and Gen-1 V-Max Owners..
Patch replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Puc I am not concerned for myself or my feelings in this thread! I have in the past tried to explain such things as compressible fluids, why we use the term and how we are able via that thinking calculate and understand combustion cycles extra. I did not mock your thinking at the time, did not mock your lack of understanding of the basis dynamics. I dissected dyno testing endlessly with you, pointing again to the missing connections instead of mocking! Now your are twisting my words and efforts in the most basic princeliness of combustion issues by denying proven known's and procedures! Other forums other mechanics young and old read this stuff too, what do you think their takeaway is? Now I stay out of model specific stuff, its just not my strength. So please Puc stop trying to make a fool of yourself, in trying to make one of me! Just yesterday morning I had enough respect for you to accept you were pulling my leg; I would like to maintain that friendship and respect, so stop trying to reteach me what I am rock solid in; I am sure footed in my experience. You have done this before Puc, it hasn't work well with others either, do not mistake me for a Mark. Still love ya Big Brother but little brother is not playing this nonsense game any longer! -

Just read the poll! Puc as I stated I believed the thread was a gag on me, I was sure you were pulling my leg! LOL Let say it this way, you will not get me to agree with the blanket statement that because it is a Yamaha Venture that it does not need ever, to have a compression check! Regardless of whom you get to agree with you! The points you highlighted about stuck rings are, in my comer not yours, RIGHT? lol Who gives advice about not needing compression testing because it is a Yamaha V4? Reinforces my thinking that you were pulling my leg! Not to mention the questions not even asked: have you ever compression tested…. have you ever checked lash…… If no to both, why not? Clues to a gag right? LOL In my view considering that these possibilities aren’t considered either Might not have the correct jets Might have or had leaking fuel circuits for a long time { need an examples?} We know the results right, so Compression testing, unless they are the original owner and never... Again reasons to think you have been pulling my leg. Like I said I believed you were pulling my leg and I am good with that! So brother for the record: It was a GAG right PS. for the record both MKll we had both received with compression issues, 91 due to storage & 1 enricher, the 86, was much worse and problems corrected by understanding the results then addressing the known. So tell me? If someone googles yamaha venture compression.... Is this thread to be taken seriously? Little Brother -

The carb issues Marcarl points to start on page 3. If that is not enough help for you or not what you think is the problem then just let us know. -

I wonder, haven't a clue as to what you said or didn't say? Think I'll just stay confused and learn to approach with more suspicious caution, maybe even double my meds just to be sure, hmm? -

For the moment I wouldn't worry much about the idle in those mentioned ranges. If for example she suddenly started to race from idle then you are chasing an air leak. Interrelations in 1st & 2nd help rattle the compression rings which is not a bad idea in getting them to clean landings and spring better. Is she a candidate for a compression test? Absolutely after 6 years, check out the (case for fogging) thread see if it makes sense and its easy to do. -
Well it wouldn't be my choice for what that is worth. For myself I first want to define my project goals. What you have now is a cruiser and for other parts of the world it can be a descent touring ride where distances between countries are somewhat shorter. As I eluded to in one of your calculation posts, rpm brings new challenges along with it. Right now you have a torquey volume velocity combination breathing intake, that would need addressing as well, not just bigger carbs or you will slow its response. The more rpm you add the more flows need to increase, the more that happens the more you fuel. As far as stroke goes look at it as a line in diameter, the center rotates slower then its outer point tho the rpm is still benched, the one end has to speed up to keep up, that is time over distance traveled. So the faster it travels the longer the distance it must travel relative to the center of rotation. That said then add those factors under combusted cycles, include friction and more listed below, duty cycles shorten. Not sure why we are discussing the stroke but certainly a longer stroke will, if diameter is of equal bore of the shorter stroke, then volumes will increase as well. So in short verse long, long has more CC or more volume to displace. As a choice in rules one choose to lower the upper end of RPM. Now there are reasons to this that are not so evident till you understand more around the physics like at TDC & BDC : in both cases the moving mass/inertia wants to keep moving in that one direction, where as the crank rotating will reverse the lever and at the same time it must absorb the effects of so! That goes for all connecting components as well involved in that case. You must also look at the flow ports, valve sizing, seat angles, lifts and duration then you must consider ignition duration thru advance will you have enough at that new bench mark rpm? What is comparable between parts swapping from other higher output models to yours. Likely I would look at a different engine swap, will likely save you time and money then effect your mods from and above that. PS yes for vibrations

Thanks Bro, now how do I do the highlighted part:think:

I am developing and allergy to the above mentioned? hmm Starts with eyes not being able to focus, then confusion and dizziness, mild at first! Then comes the anxiousness, my tummy tightens and turns, endlessness black spots start to appear, then a dark hole opens and POOF!!! And this tune always appears between my loppears? YA, its going to take I while before forgiveness comes your way MUCH OLDER BROTHER

Well guys I have to wonder how deep this conspiracy actually goes? Just maybe one question I don't want to ask.. Puc I must admit that I was mentioning to the boys over in the Cafe just last night, "I try to be careful to not ..... cause I know he knows this stuff, he's just forgetting" the " ....." replaced definitions I just could not figure out how to spell! LOL But when Saddlebum started talking "Leak down testing is preferred" YIKES I got up to looksee if the skies were filling with Aliens, hmm hmm! I suppose Flyinfool was in on this as well! How you ever talked Marcarl into it knowing what he knows about me AT THIS MOMENT? hmm I suppose Mama knew too, oh my that must of been tough on her! And 1BIG you too, serves you right for ordering the right parts for the wrong bike! Karma is a sweet BTCH Well I am Honored BOY's to be you's all little brother! What a bunch of Canadian change, all Loonie! Now I was telling Carl while back how I use to be able to pre write 5 or more post to a thread just based on logical sequences, "but not on this forum, why is that" likely another of those questions I won't seek an answer to -

I remember well the thread Luv and the issues! OK Puc I will address your request but not thru a Pole tho! As I see it as a reassurance in denial of proper approach towards troubleshooting a sports machine. I will because I know and am willing to share my experience as clearly as my English permits and; due to the fact that I am getting older tho I have not as yet forgotten as much as YOU have I certainly will soon enough. Expect a TROUBLE SHOOTING DOCUMENT posted in my CASE FOR FOGGING thread! I will commence working on that soon and get it done! The experience will be of my general background and not model specific, the sub forums can handle that much better. Happy Now ? Is the print Big enough for you Much Older Brother of mine? -

I can see with certainty now that you should of been a politician, shaping the answers within the questions. The format is well done tho! Little Brother is still ahead -
Certainly a good start! You might also tell us what you know of the bike...

Well you did pretty good there Carl.. Personally I had been debating on weather I wanted to watch the video, and even if I should post or comment on it. For myself my comment to the video really is what I saw, felt and took away from his shared experience. Not a hero rather just a man with a duty in a mixed up time in history.

I don't use much Gunk product anymore, but if it is a Carb cleaner or carbon cleaner that will work. Important to remember that the strong mixes of seafoam can make your spark plugs wet, is why we suggest the 50/50 mix for a warm engine! Other than that and from Max I suggest you follow the steps we laid out earlier in the day as was scheduled, that way we can think on the results of those procedures -

Take a look at page, 5-2 for the flows, #2 air jet, see it at the top? next time you have it running block each one, one at a time, note the differences down on paper (see page 2-11 use that as a traced out diagram) after taking the notes, now spray some Carbon blaster or WD right down tight to the jet.. Note the changes let it run for a couple minutes afterwards to clear those jets! Now we know if those jets are working correctly and we can scratch that off the list! Lets see if we can explain the multiple things you are experiencing. So new the bike came with 172 psi standard and will run as expected. 142 psi is the minimum even (x4) operating pressure. Now what is not in the book is differentials between jugs very important to accept this as pact that exstream pressure differentials will need correcting, how and which ones can be determent by compression testing just as listed in the book this is a proven easy short track to understanding why/what is going on! That is the general jift of it, trust it it is well proven. Next really those carbs should be removed and poked thru. But for this experiment you want to use chems to manage the problem, we get it! So here is what may help: Drain the blows remove your spark plugs Go to #1 air vent Refill the bowls with Carbon Blaster Take a small tire pump and adapt id to the the breather vent and bump it to 5 lbs THAT'S ALL! Crank the bike say 5 rotations then refill and let sit Block evaporation by capping the #1 fitting Repeat every couple hours, if that won't clear your carbs by the next day, then you will need to pull them. A note here: 172 is not enough compression to run with that heavy a sea foam mix, yes the plug will help flash the ratio but not every cycle and not for tuning! It is simply a cleaning ratio to be used in small volumes once the engine has reached operating temps! So there is too high a mix in your tank for tuning, remember that. Next: the enricher circuit is a blunt circuit, see where I am going? The velocity at the plate set to the approximate location of the Pilot Jet, causes the fuel TO air - to atomize and lift, this reduces the wall effect of fuel slowing and separating from the air/fuel charge! The enricher is below the plate and is without jetting this is to compensate for a cold start when the charge enters the Jugs, it is a necessary inefficiency! Only after the heat of combust raises the chamber temp does that fuel circuit gain some combustion efficiency and then - contributes to the engine RPM ! So I hope that helps some -

You can remove and spray carbon blaster. Be careful not to strip the heads, use the best fitting driver or reshape one to suit, there should be a spring, a small Oring and the needle tips should be clean, fine point, and straight. add a touch of spray lube when reinstalling them... Make sure the bike is running well before you try to sync you carbs -
Eh guys sorry I left Mama's Cafe abruptly last evening. As you know I have a couple friends on the edge of the planet and another just on edge I was communicating with the one with brain cancer; I sent him tunes to listen and watch in his hospital room. As a result he was trying to reach back out which he cannot do but thinks he is communicating... After sending the deck of cards which I think is an amazing poem, things became more moving knowing he hasn't seen any of his loved ones to share with... guess it just all caught up to me End of explanation!

Eh guys: this video posting I must say up front is not an easy watch/view. Is it worth your time? Well only the end of it will answer that very personal summery. Why post it? Well sometimes life has a way of finding and shaping the innocent wide eyed boy into a machine before becoming or earning the right to just live as a man. I don’t see a hero in this video at all, scared kit, wrong place wrong time, yep. What I do know tho is I see, feel and sense his fear; that said I must admit that he proved a brave kid growing against his natural grain. To me at least I understand what I think as of this interview he had not completely processed: that of bravery in the face of uncertainty and even as he describes, a complete carious. One thing I and am sure many of you know of, is adrenaline has a very narrow field and focus; it not only masks pain but the actual events details are denied and lost. During the interview it is easy to see how time placed him in situation after situation till that point at which there was but one thing left; accept who you must now be. As a result we here a story filled with shadows shredded by daylight and the mixed realization that you survived and must admit to what others believe is a normal life free of the unspeakable memories, that haunt… A strange summery of what is asked of those that must (in the day) serve. As a young fellow I learned these by heart… We the willing serving the ungrateful Have done so much for so little We are now qualified to do anything for nothing. What you see here What you do here Stays here When you leave here. Well for the many, thanks for the education eh!
