  1. Sounds like your ready to roll Jerry. I did my valves and had Iron Pony in Columbus clean and set the carbs up. Now we need some decent riding weather. Snow today. 15 degrees tomorrow morning and then rain for 3 days. Will spring ever get here?
  2. I adjusted 14 of the 16 valves. 1 intake and 1 exhaust were ok. The others were at the low end of allowable clearance so I set them all to the mid range of allowable clearance. Shouldn't have to open it up again for awhile.
  3. I have completed my valve adjustments on the 99 RSV. I know why the dealers charge $500 plus parts now. I changed the coolant, spark plugs, oil and filters had the carbs cleaned, adjusted and synched. Throttle cables lubed and the gear lube changed. Will have the rear driveline splines and pins lubed when I change the rear tire. If we ever get rid of this snow I'll take it for a spin. Thanks to RandyR for the use of his shim kit and valve tool. Also thanks to this forum for the instructions on performing the valve adjustment. Worked on a lot of diesel trucks and school buses bus never motorcycles. It was a time consuming job to dismantle the bike to get at the valve covers. Glad it is done now and won't have to worry about the valves for quite awhile.
  4. In Ohio it is a civil penalty so the BMV is not notified. No points, no insurance hike, just money out of your pocket. Legislature is looking at getting rid of them in the entire state.
  5. Thanks Rick. I will pull the bolts out tonight and make sure I have the short bolts to the outside.
  6. I purchased one last year. Company was great to work with. Fits perfect, easy to install. Looks great on the bike.
  7. When I removed the old carb joints from the #2 and #3 cylinders oil came out of the outside bolt holes. Is this normal? I used thread locker when I put the bolts back in. Will this seal them so I don't have an oil leak? Anti freeze came out of the outside bolts on #1 and #4 cylinders. Is this also normal? Should I use a special sealer on the bolts? Thanks in advance for all your help. Jim
  8. Adjusting my valves. Intakes all measure 0.004 The 0.005 feeler gauge will not fit. Should I leave them alone or try to get closer to 0.006
  9. I purchased a Ram Mount from amazon for my garmin that clamps on the handle bars
  10. I installed a baggershield last summer and really like it. The company was great to work with and it installed in minutes. You can change from tall to short in less than a minute with no tools necessary. It is a little wider than the stock shield which helps with the buffeting. My wife has no problems with the wind when the shield is in the tall position.
  11. From what I can tell when you order from boats.net it goes through partzilla.
  12. I ordered from Partzilla. They had the best prices I could find.
  13. Where is a good website to order RSV parts from? I am looking for valve cover gaskets and carb joints.
  14. Randy, Checking to see if you received my PM with shipping info.
  15. I am getting ready to adjust the valves on my 99 RSV (32,000 miles) the weekend of March 7th, 8th and 9th. Does anyone have a shim kit and valve adjusting tool I could borrow.
  16. I purchased a Cal Spa brand from an ad on craiglist three years ago. It was two years old at the time. Sold it to me for $500.00 because he was moving and didn't want to move it. I have the original invoice from when he purchased it for $4995.00 You may want to check craigslist for a bargain.
  17. My buddy just sold his 03 Avalanche with 384,000 miles. Still had the original engine. He bought a 2010 with 100,000 miles to replace it.
  18. I keep my boat at Lake Cumberland in Jamestown, KY. This is at the west end of the lake from Somerset. Lot of nice roads to ride in the area. Jamestown Cafe is a great place to eat on the square in Jamestown. Farther west is Mammoth Cave State Park which has great tours of Mammoth Cave. Bowling Green, KY is home to the Corvette Museum.
  19. I have them on my 99 RSV. They work great. I bought them from a member in the Danville, KY area.
  20. Ion, from the chrome strip to the top of the lower section is 9.75 inches. To the top of the upper section is 15.75 inches. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any additional info.
  21. Ion, my bike is in winter storage on the carbon one stand. I will be able to measure it for you this weekend.
  22. I have the 10.5 to 16.5 one. It works great. Wife has no problem with wind buffeting. If I stretch alittle I can see over it in the rain.
