  1. I had the same problem with my CD player/changer on my old '01 RSV. I tried different ways of installing it (always in the trunk) but it would still skip more than I could stand. On my '06 RSV, I use a portable MP3 player and it's much better!! No skipping, doesn't take up any room and sounds great pumped thru the aux of the bike's system. I guess I'm no help for your problem, just letting you know I had the same problem with the one I had. Good luck , Larry
  2. I'm the guy who replied to your post on the other forum. Here's a link to the Shell website/motorcycle discussion forum http://www.shellusserver.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=9&page=1 They definitely changed the 15W40 Rotella-T dino oil. You'll be fine with it on this oil change but there is mention that they remove the zinc from the formulation and motorcycles need zinc in their oil (I'm just repeating what I read, I'm definitely not an oil expert). Go to that site, plenty of good reading. As I mentioned on the other site, I used the old Rotella T 15W40 in my bikes but when I saw it was changed I switched to the Syn. 5W40 to be safe because it's known to be good for bikes and I'll wait until more info is out on the new "triple protection" 15W40. Your bike is fine for now and if you do go with the 5W40 Syn. it'll work as well. Larry
  3. OOPS, my bad... sorry, I didn't read it right:confused24:
  4. What Karl said won't work on a 2nd gen. No need to remove the chrome ring (actually you can't with the fairing still on, it's not screwed on but pressed on with tabs that are crimped over the bucket.) You either need to get to the bulb from the back side, fishing your hand in there down by the headlight adjuster knob, or remove the front fairing and have easy access to the bulb. I haven't had to change my bulb yet but when I do I'll take the fairing off to do so. Larry
  5. Paul, I hear ya brother, but 600 grit in the wrong hands could spell disaster. You wouldn't believe some of the stuff people try to do themselves then bring it to our shop to "look at" after it's too late and the damage is done The clear on a OEM bike paint job is quite a bit thinner vs. an automotive OEM job. Glad to hear you've had success, but still warn the inexperienced person to BE CAREFUL when sanding and polishing on their bike. Take care, Larry
  6. I work in a bodyshop as a painter, I've also done a lot of custom painting on Yamaha cycles... there isn't enough clear on the OEM factory paint to do much wet sanding on, you'll go thru the clearcoat very, very easily. NO WAY should you start with 600 grit, by the time you remove those scratches with 1500 then 2000 grit you'll be through the clear before you even start buffing!!! Yamaha uses lacquer and there isn't enough mil thickness to allow for much sanding and buffing. An aftermarket paint job using urethane clear will have A LOT more mil thickness so you could get away with some sanding and polishing, no way will the stock paint job allow for much sanding and buffing at all (not just my opinion, it's for sure fact). Good luck and be careful, Larry
  7. Thanks Goose, I have the front one mounted, balanced and back on the bike.... did it this afternoon after I got off of work. The discs definitely needed to come off, no way were they going to fit on my changer. No big deal, just have to make sure you have a good quality torx bit to avoid mucking up the rotor bolts (real easy to do if you're not careful). This was my first tire change, it was a piece of cake with the NoMar mount/dismount bar (along with watching the video/demo). I'm headed back out to tackle the rear wheel. FWIW, when I removed the front wheel, I checked the balance of the original tire (6,000 mi. on the factory Bridgestone) and it wasn't all that close...clearly a heavy spot. Not sure if the selling dealer does this when setting up the bike or if it's straight from Yamaha..either way it's balanced correctly now!! I bought a balancer from NoMar, it works like a charm!! Thanks for the reply, Larry
  8. Thanks, I bought a NoMar mount/demount bar so I won't need the rim protectors. I can see how they'd be needed without the NoMar bar though. Larry
  9. Thanks, mine are on correctly but I did notice the display model's were on backwards.
  10. Just bought the HF tire changer w/ motorcycle adaptor today, going to put some widewhites on my '06 RSV this weekend. My question ..... is there enough clearance on the HF changer to leave the brake discs on the rims or do they need to come off? I was planning on carefully working around them. I haven't taken off my wheels yet but just looking at the changer it looks like it'll be very tight fit with the rotors on the rims. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Larry
