starcruiser Posted May 8, 2007 Share #1 Posted May 8, 2007 I'm just wondering if all of your 06rstd's/ventures have a whirring sound like a jet engine when you roll the throttle? I was out Saturday and parked beside a venture that didn't have that sound. Mine has, since it was bought new last August. I thought it was due to the 4 cylinders? Milage and acceleration are both great but definitely doesn't have a V-twin sound. Should I be worried? What can you yama-experts tell me?
BuddyRich Posted May 8, 2007 Share #2 Posted May 8, 2007 If your talking about a sound like the car on "The Jettisons" . That's the chirp some of them have.
Guest gitarzan Posted May 8, 2007 Share #3 Posted May 8, 2007 My 03 does that at certain rpm. I can hear a sound like high speed air stream being sucked. Sounds like a jet. I assumed it was the carbs drawing air.
starcruiser Posted May 8, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted May 8, 2007 but yes, it's a little like that. The big question(s) is: Will it damage the motor? Should I be concerned? Mark
juggler Posted May 8, 2007 Share #5 Posted May 8, 2007 It's a special feature that is built in with most of our bikes. If your ride is still under warranty you can try to convince the dealer to replace the clutch basket with the I-basket. This has helped some people. BuddyRich Posted May 8, 2007 Share #6 Posted May 8, 2007 No, it won't hurt it. ITs a normal sound made by theses bikes. Just do a search for chirp and that will answer your questions. Of course it may take years to read all the stuff posted about the chirp.
starcruiser Posted May 8, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted May 8, 2007 Gitarzan described it perfectly!! It does swoosh like an air stream through an engine. Must be all that power packed in there! Mark
starcruiser Posted May 8, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted May 8, 2007 I appreciate the instant feedback. It's nice to know somebody out there has answers! Mark

Mark Well, there are answers and then there are opinions. Not always the same. Caveat emptor on that.
Monsta Posted May 8, 2007 Share #10 Posted May 8, 2007 The whine or "chirp" of my 99 certainly isn't an "air swooshing" sound. I would inspect all the connections in the intake to ensure you don't have a leak.

I just bought a `01 RSV that has that chirp sound, beleave its the cluch.... much like StarCruiser, I am wanting to know if that will hurt anything, or is it about to go south on me. The bike only has 3K miles on it.. Thanks
Condor Posted May 8, 2007 Share #12 Posted May 8, 2007 That Jet engine sound isn't exclusive to the 2gens. One of my '83's started it right after tuning and syncing the carbs. We just did Lyle D's 87 yesterday and when he took off down the road I could hear it making that jet engine noise as well. It's not a chirp, but a sound like a high speed turbine intake. I think it sounds kinda cool......
RSTDinPA Posted May 10, 2007 Share #13 Posted May 10, 2007 I thought the Turbine Engined RSV's weren't due out until 2008? (tongue-in-cheek). I think they will also have seat backs, tray tables, and oxygen masks in the overheard compartment. Fight Attendant optional.
