Are There Any New Solutions for the Venture Clutch Chirp?

Recommended Posts

I've read through about 10 years of Venture clutch chirp threads and I'm probably hoping beyond hope; however, have there been any new solutions for the 1st Gen clutch chirp (aka Jetson Syndrome)?

I believe that the XVZ1300 right? I had a 91 and what I found to deal with any clutch slip (and the reason for the chirping) is this:

1st I’d recommend replacing the clutch plates & rings. Then when you go to put it back together you’ll notice the clutch spring is nothing more than a concave ring which sits in a retainer basket. I installed a SECOND clutch spring stacked on the first. The retainer basket is deep enough to still catch 75% of the depth of the ring to properly retain it. I had learned about this back in 1993 from a tech tip on what was the Venture Touring Society. Now mind you, you WILL feel MORE clutch lever pull but your clutch will NEVER slip again.

Go to :40 in this video. It's the highest pitched RPM-dependent chirp you hear.

On my bike, if I'm at speed and pull in the clutch, the chirp goes away.

Similar to the chirping sound of the Jetson's flying cars:

Somewhere in the 750Hz to 870Hz range: http://www.szynalski.com/tone-generator/

Thanks Bob now I know. Mines been doing that at certain speed/gear combo.

I suspected that was it and now that I know, it does not bother me at all since mine is very low in db.

I installed the "Double-D Clutch Fix" on my '93 as well. I love it! However, it's unrelated to the chirp.

I had over 120k mikes in mine and never heard what you speak of.

No kidding?? You never had that RPM-dependent chirp that you can hear at :40 in the @cowpuc video above? That's awesome. I thought it was a "standard feature" of 1st Gen bikes. I sure wish mine didn't do it. It's the loudest noise on the bike.

Have the similar sound on both the 99 and 09. Doesn't bother me at all.
