Niagara Falls

Leland

Recommended Posts

Since this is the best trip advisor that I know of, I am asking for recommendations. Niagara Falls has always been on my bucket list. My wife and I will be flying; will only be a few days trip. I have heard that the views are better from the Canadian side. We have passports and am open to either side. Not looking for the cheapest. Not at all opposed to one of the high rise hotels for the best views. Would also like to take one of the tours while there.

Any thoughts welcome. Thanks in advance.

The view is better from the Canadian side. I suggest for the best rates to look at Hotels/Motels are properties on Lundy's Lane. I take it you will be renting a car? If not..I suggest so, because you also might want to take the short scenic drive along the Niagara River Escarpment to Niagara On The Lake. This is a very historic British Naval Town, and was the Capitol of Upper Canada, AND was the first open battle/skirmish in the War of 1812, between invading American and defending British troops. It is also the host of many nice Wineries, with tasting tours. The main drag is rich with shops that will entertain you, AND, hosts the best millinery shop https://beauchapeau.com/ that a man can find every type of custom made hat and style. I have bought three from them, I love Fedora's...and they are all top notch. The ladies selection is such, that both of you will walk out wearing your hats from N.O.L.! Another highlighted shop in N.O.L, is the Leather Coat Shop. Lots of great deals in there...let me tell ya. You always need an open side bag available because of THAT shop! Enjoy your flight and time at N.F.!

http://www.fallsviewrestaurant.com/ The view from the Keg overlooking the Falls is the best view bar none, of all of the Canadian or American views, of the Falls. BOOK A TABLE VIEW...before you try to just 'walk in...' This a very popular dining experience! Dinner after dark, is spectacular! The picture you see here of the couple dining, and watching the Falls is NOT FAKE. That is exactly the viewpoint vantage that you have. It is quite the show..especially at night when the Falls are lit up with changing colors...yep, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, indeed! This is a Joe-Approved dining experience, lol! My wife concurs.

https://www.casinoniagara.com/ Why, you can even stay at the Casino, Leland!

Plenty to see and enjoy. I suggest the KEG Restaurant in downtown Niagara Falls, for great steaks at not Robber Barron prices, if that is your pleasure. We have the Casino on this side too, which is a lot of fun. Who knows...you might take away more than you came with! :)

Niagara Falls on the Canadian side at night...by comments of lots of travelers, is that it is the now the Las Vegas of the North. At night...it has that lighting appeal...lots of things happening, GREAT restaurants...avenues to amuse, so, lots happening, Maid of the Mist...that is a party unto itself. You will love it...and of course, the Falls..especially at night aboard the Maid of the Mist...the last trip out...is simply spectacular! Have fun!

If you are going to stay on the American side, an area favorite is Broasted Chicken. Buffalo and Niagara Falls were the first to use this process to cook chicken in this manner... :)

Now I'm a Canadian and I suppose that might have something to do with my opinion. I have seen the Falls from the Canadian side more times than I can count, and yes you get to see the American side right on and can get somewhat close to the horseshoe. But the best experience my wife and I have had is from the American side. Not so commercialized, able to walk right up to the river and enjoy the time being there. If we were to go again sometime, it would be American side. But then again, if we hadn't been before we would go both sides, and take a Maid of the Mist boat tour, maybe walk in behind the falls. We would not be taking the cable car over the rapids, because Marca would not go by herself. We would visit Old Fort Erie and spend some time in NOL.

But, best of all, we would most surely let other VentureRiders know where the place was for a M&G!!!!

Being a local to the Niagara area, there is lots to see on both sides of the border. If your looking for the more tourist type stuff to do, then the Canadian side has tons of places that will love to help you spend your dollars, good places to eat in the Falls area. As Marcarl and Yamaha Par Excellence have mentioned Niagara on the Lake is a pretty spot to spend some time lots of little shops and again some good spots to eat. There are wineries to visit if your into that, if you want some nice drives you can mix that in with doing some visits to the wineries or stopping in the small towns along the Wine Route, again l;ots of neat shops to check out.

just by venturing a little out of the Falls you have more small towns to visit, Marcarl mentioned Fort Erie, there is also Ridgeway, Port Colborne, Virgil, Thorold and a few more each with something different to see. Depending on when you are thinking of coming the region has something going on each weekend of the summer it seems.

On the American side, Niagara Falls NY and Buffalo both have great attractions of their own and some excellent spots to eat and shop.

If you want more detailed info send me a pm and I can look into what is going on in the area when arrive. If your in the mood for a meet and eat that can set up as well.

Wherever you decide you want to go for your visit, it is a great area, ya I am biased because I live here.
