Murphy's Law says that no mater what sizes you buy, you will still need a size you don't have on hand.
Yup, you can always rely on Murphy. When I did my 90 VR it was my only transportation so I opted to measure them all one weekend. Buy the ones I needed which was 13. Then made the exchange another weekend.

I had a bag full of shims from my FJ1200. But I still measured the clearances and then pulled the shims from the valves that were going to need a different shim. I actually only needed like 4 shims different from what was already in the motor after swapping some around from cylinder to another. If you can stand to have the bike down a few days, the shims are rather easy to get off e-bay for $8 or so. Here is a page of them. They are a 25mm shim by what ever thickness you need. They fit all sorts of bikes FJ1200, V-max, hondas. I think the majority of the shims in mine were in the 250 to 285 range.
