mm482 Posted July 11, 2017 #1 Posted July 11, 2017 When you adjusted your vales, what was some of the more common size shims used? Earl
bongobobny Posted July 11, 2017 #2 Posted July 11, 2017 I've read in the high 200's and an occasional very low 300...
mm482 Posted July 11, 2017 Author #3 Posted July 11, 2017 Thanks Bob, I want to buy a few of the most used shim before I do the valves on my bike. Earl
Flyinfool Posted July 11, 2017 #4 Posted July 11, 2017 Murphy's Law says that no mater what sizes you buy, you will still need a size you don't have on hand.

When I did my 90 VR it was my only transportation so I opted to measure them all one weekend. Buy the ones I needed which was 13. Then made the exchange another weekend.
mm482 Posted July 11, 2017 Author #6 Posted July 11, 2017 Wow 13, I am hoping for less than that, but mine is way over due.
Yammer Dan Posted July 12, 2017 #7 Posted July 12, 2017 Where is the kit that other Earl was loaning out???
djh3 Posted July 15, 2017 #8 Posted July 15, 2017 I had a bag full of shims from my FJ1200. But I still measured the clearances and then pulled the shims from the valves that were going to need a different shim. I actually only needed like 4 shims different from what was already in the motor after swapping some around from cylinder to another. If you can stand to have the bike down a few days, the shims are rather easy to get off e-bay for $8 or so. Here is a page of them. They are a 25mm shim by what ever thickness you need. They fit all sorts of bikes FJ1200, V-max, hondas. I think the majority of the shims in mine were in the 250 to 285 range.
