Batteries

In my quest for the (cheapest) right part I am needing to know the answer to one of two questions.

 

1. The place to get the cheapest replacement battery for the Venture First gen with hole for the battery sensor.

 

2. Best battery for the money and a way to bypass the sensor so it does not keep blinking at me.

 

Any ideas?

In my opinion, there is no better battery than the Odyssey. Don't know where the cheapest place to buy it is though. I bought mine from West Coast Batteries about 4 years ago.

 

Now there is no place in it for the sensor and it wouldn't work anyway because the sensor is for the electrolyte level and the Odyssey is a dry cell. Here are the instructions to bypass the sensor.

I was looking at some of the prices and I found a Odyssey PC680 w/metal jacket for about $120 delivered. Thank you for the advice.

My 84 is running one of the walmart motorcycle batteries. Not a great battery but for $40 bucks it's run for 3 years. I'm going to replace it this year with another one.

On the battery price for the oddessy (Which I wholeheartedly agree with as the best) check with Condor (pc680 on first Gen) He was doing a group buy a few months ago so he may have a connection to get it the cheapest as he I think is set up direct.

Batterys Plus (if they are in your area ) sells the battery with the extra hole

for the sensor, they are about $45 dollars

I use them, and they seem to last 3 or 4 years

I just picked my OEM one up at the steelership for 74 bucks, I figured since I ordered a bunch of new gaskets and filters it would be easier to just get it! BTW came with the new Electrolight sensor as well, what a bargin!!!!!!!

You can save money and use the 680 instead of the 680MJ. They are the same batteries except for the outer metal jacket. The Odessey is well worth the money, and have more power than the standard wet cell.

Sears also sells a Diehard battery that fits the 1st gen and has the sensor hole. That's what I use. Only snag was that the hole was a little too small, but was easy to enlarge with drill and right size bit.

I've done that with a cheap genric battery as well. Worked fine except the battery only lasted a year...

I recently bought a Deka battery, and it appears to be one of the best built batteries I have seen. Have not had it long enough to speak for longevity, but so far no problems.
