I was gonna be a real smarty pants and use my #1 trip odometer as my "whole season" record to keep track of the total number of miles... Sorry, kliks, I put on for the entire summer.

BUT, the first time I got into reserve, and the odometer started saying how many kliks I'd put on while IN reserve, it never came back to my "season total"!

Pisser! Went back and started over at zero!

Is this Standard operating procedure?

Pretty sure mine (99) returns to trip reading a few minutes after fuel level is back to normal.

According to service manual after 5 kms it should clear.

Mine is a US bike, and the odometers for trip only go up to 999.9 miles before zeroing,

so might not work for a season total.

The reserve fuel odometer is supposed to be a separate total....and you should still be able to scroll through the other odometers using the select button....main, trip1, trip 2, reserve

The owner's manual says the fuel odo will reset itself if you don't reset it manually.. If you manual reset the fuel odo, it then goes back to trip 1 odo.. If you select the odo it will cycle through the odo, trip 1, trip 2 and fuel odo..

If you're planning on logging your whole summer riding on only a trip 1 odo, you're not going far at all? How far does a trip odo roll to, 1,000 miles before rolling over? Never paid attention to that.. curious.

There are 2 trip odo. But as mentioned they only go to 1000 miles (maybe km in your case) I use to set my #2 for oil changes and found it just rolled over,, so thats no good. About all its good for is I run one for fuel load and the second if I am tracking mileage for the day. Otherwise its pretty much useless for me.

Same.. Trip 1 is my fuel gauge.. Since putting on the VMax pumpkin my reserve consistently hits around the 170 miles on the highway (with 50 miles of reserve).. Fuel gauge stopped working properly a couple of years ago and when I have time I'll be installing the new one I recently purchased (dealer gave me a super good price on it.. I couldn't refuse ;)

Hopefully THAT will work and get rid of the 8 blinks on the fuel gauge..

Thanks to everyone for the odometer "tuneup". I've got a better handle now on how to track "everything"........EXCEPT for one.....

Is there a chart or table on the site anywhere that shows the AVERAGE mileage/kilometerage that can be expected from a full tank on a Gen 2?

Just for comparison's sake, and, rather than get into all the formulae for dividing gas receipts by odometer settings (yikes, the math!!!) can anyone point me to a post where some gracious member has figured this stuff all out for us?

P.S. I don't care if it's INCLUDING or NOT including the reserve.....just after some full tank mileage "expectations".

Thanks!

My trip odometer is the same, but Canuck bike, I tried running a total of kms run during our recent trip through Pa, NY and Oh, but it only went to 999.9 as well and then started over again.

My '99 RSV goes to the that counter after low fuel warning often. I push the limits. But it does not clear out my #1 trip odometer. They are not the same counter. Just one push of the reset or the select button will put you back to your #1 trip counter. Or, at least that is how it works on mine.

To get back to trip 1 just tap the select button until you get to trip 1. The low fuel odometer will eventually switch itself off.

Sure I can tell you how many miles you will get from a tank of gas. But first you have to tell me A. Highway or city driving. B. How much up hill. C. How steep are the hills. D. Any idling. E. Any stop and go. See the problem?

So compute your mileage for the type of riding you do and figure accordingly.

Yep, what Kirby said! When I got back into riding in '02 I think I checked mileage on about every tank that went thru my Volusia. One day it hit me, this is WAY TOO MUCH WORK for something that's supposed to be fun. My '99 runs anywhere from a low of about 33mpg to a high of around 42mpg, that's with Roadhouse mufflers and wide open K&N air filters, and 95% 2-up riding. It's kinda like bowling, it's all in the wrist!

This is a link for Canadian gas mileage calculator that I use.

http://www3.telus.net/findNchoose/mpg.html

Hi, John.......thanks for that link........but remember, I was looking for LESS math.....not MORE! :-)

I'm trying to find an AVERAGE mileage figure for a tankful of gas on a Yamaha Venture.

I realize, as Mike from Seattle says, that it's gonna rely somewhat on city vs highway, how much idling, how much uphill etc (he forgot to mention passenger load, tire pressure, trailer towing, barometric pressure, ambient air temperature.....and so on :-)

....BUT, all I'm trying to do is get a simple answer to the simple question. How be I phrase it like this:

Does your Venture "TYPICALLY" get 100 miles to a tank, 200 miles to a tank, 300 miles to a tank or 400 miles to a tank.

And by TYPICALLY.....I mean mix of city/highway (let's even say MOSTLY highway).....just me on the bike, no passenger, no trailer, no mountains.

I'm only trying to get a rough estimate of how many times I'd have to fill up to get from Niagara Falls to Deal's Gap and home, for example.

The main reason I ask this is, I'm just wanting to make sure my bike is "running well" (whatever THAT means!) I know when it WASN'T running well (i.e. one of my four plugs was almost completely fouled.....I was going through gas like you-know-what through a goose!)

So, guys.......how far can you go on a tank? (Remember, only one-word, numeric answers allowed. :-) )

Posted
OK 1 up no trailer you should get 200 miles per tank. 2 up with trailer maybe 160 miles...

Be sure to stop on by when you go, be glad to meet in person!

Thanks, Robert! THAT's the kind of answer I was looking for. SIMPLE.......like me. :)

Now that I see where you're located......maybe you can do me one more little favor:

Wifey and I are visiting friends at their camping resort near Lockport tomorrow and we're thinking we'll stay overnight, then head for Letchworth park on Tuesday AM. Do you know of any "must ride" roads in the area, either on our way into the area from Lockport......or on our way home toward Niagara Falls, once we LEAVE Letchworth?

Thanks for any "tourguide" info you may have up your sleeve!

Well, if you leave Letchworth from the southern most exit, take the back road directly across the street from the exit. This will take you to the intersection of NY routes 39 and 19. Follow Rt 39 into Arcade and enjoy the windmills! If you can call me at my home number listed in my profile I may be able to meet you at the exit depending on the time of day. I will be available Tuesday after 2:30.

If we don't meet up continue on Rt 39 past Arcade to rt 16 and follow 16 north and it will turn into The 400 expressway. Follow the 400 to the end at the NY State Thruway, I90 east towards Albany. Get off at the next exit, I190 towards Buffalo. Take it to the Peace Bridge exit and keep right to the bridge which is a left turn at the light!

Hey, Bob......thanks for the info....and for your invitation to meet up. Unfortunately, when we woke up near Lockport this AM....wifey proclaimed immediately: "We're not going to Letchworth today!"

Something about rain and contact lenses not making good riding partners! :-)

So, I have to report that we're not still in the Great State of New York. We came home first thing this morning....the boring way......WITHOUT getting to Letchworth.

Not sure if we'll be making it down later this week or not, but will be sure to let you know if we head down.

Thanks again for your mapping guidance, Robert.

Hope to see you soon.
