albyzee Posted May 27, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 27, 2011 How does one remove the sticker put on the gas tank on a new bike warning about wearing a helmet? I tired with my finger nail but its on very well. I certainly do not wish to scratch the paint trying to remove it. Thank you in advance for the help. Old plastic bank card followed by Goo-Gone for the adhesive residue. Plenty of elbow grease required.
pegscraper Posted May 27, 2011 Share #4 Posted May 27, 2011 Warm it up with a heat gun. It'll peel right off all in one piece very easily, no elbow grease required. A little mineral spirits will clean up the remaining residue.
SilvrT Posted May 27, 2011 Share #5 Posted May 27, 2011 I used a "razor blade" scraper but I wouldn't recommend that unless you've had lots of experience using one. I have and I still managed to nick the paint.

I used my wife's blow-drier to take the huge "Ninja" decal off of the sides of my first ZX11D.

BoomerCPO Posted May 27, 2011 Share #8 Posted May 27, 2011 I used a hair dryer and WD-40 to get mine off back in 2007 when I purchased my Venture. Boomer....who sez any more labels/decals will now be removed by pygmies who enjoy eating those darn things.
albyzee Posted May 28, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted May 28, 2011 I know ALOT of elbow grease will be required. I will try a hair dryer that sounds at least non chipable. Thank you all for the suggestions.

muaymendez1 Posted June 21, 2011 Share #11 Posted June 21, 2011 As Pegscraper said. A heat gun will aid in sofenting the gulue and peel off very easy. This will also work for any emblems that are glued on. My badges came off with a lil heat and a 10lb fishing line.
jrcain32 Posted June 21, 2011 Share #12 Posted June 21, 2011 I have used Goo-Gone and it was OK but Turrle Wax makes a sticker and label remover that works/worked a lot better for me. Walmart has it and it (auto section), in a spray can and if I remember correctly it is cheaper than Goo-Gone.
muaymendez1 Posted June 21, 2011 Share #13 Posted June 21, 2011 Ive seen some guys use bug and tar spray remover as well. With similar results.

muaymendez1 Posted July 1, 2011 Share #15 Posted July 1, 2011 A hammer chisel and some 120 grit sandpaper will remove that stubborn decal!!
