MkI handlebar accessories

I'm getting really frustrated trying to add a cup holder on my '83 Royale. There just isn't any handlebar real estate sufficient to the task. I saw where someone had screwed one into the lower fairing, but I'm reluctant to go that route. Does anyone know of an alternate solution?

You're right about the shortage of options on mounting stuff on the MKI and MKII bars. I was looking to add a switch panel for my lights where I could reach it and not have to poke a bunch of holes in my fairing.

I came up with this idea.

The last four pics show where the bolt will attach. A spot on the other side to under a rubber plug but I think that one is a left handed thread.

Using that same mounting hole you could fab up a rod with a flange on the end and be able to mount up one of the marine cup holders with the gimbal joint.

It's not the answer but it's a starting point.

Thanks, Mike. That actually led my thought process in a different direction and I found [ame=http://www.amazon.com/RAM-Mounting-RAM-B-179-AP5U-Motorcycle-Generation/dp/B00361ERVI/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1288561703&sr=1-2-fkmr1]Amazon.com: RAM Mounting Systems RAM-B-179-AP5U Offset Motorcycle Mount for Apple iPod Nano (3rd Generation): Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41y1yITOPCL.@@AMEPARAM@@41y1yITOPCL[/ame] on Amazon. I should be able to use the mirror mounting hole to add the offset base and have a stable platform. Just have to hope it's strong enough...

Hey Stephen,

I fabbed and machined up the GPS mount pictured below and have been wondering if a similar mount on the opposite side would work for a water bottle mount. If you are interested, PM me.

Mike, as always your "thinking outside the box" always impresses me. :thumbsup2:

Thanks, Earl. I appreciate the offer and may take you up on it if the Ram mount I referenced doesn't work. I'd like to use the Ram if possible because it would be so easy to switch from cup holder to GPS to Ipod, etc.

I also found another ball mount that I'm pretty sure will work on either side.

It looks like you fabricated your holder out of a mirror stem. Hmm, looks like pretty good OOB thinking to me as well...I sure am glad I fell in with this crowd!

Hey Stephen,

I actually used a 7/16-14 S.S. bolt and used the old "smoke Wrench" to put a few bends in it. That's why I said it would be easy to make on in the opposite hand.

That ram mount looks like it would be multi-purpose enough.:thumbsup2:

I have attached a few pics.
