Uturn Posted August 1, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 1, 2010 I worked for them 5 years in Greenville, SC and decided to move on...Damn decisions when you're young. I look back and say oh well !! Back then it was only "Southern". I am still a member with the credit union, branch here in Virginia Beach. Everyone I know that work here (clerks, trainmen, switchmen etc) are satisfied with company. MIKE aka Uturn
Mel Posted August 1, 2010 Share #6 Posted August 1, 2010 :12101:From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Gandy dancer is a slang term used for early railroad workers, especially those in the Southern United States, who maintained railroad tracks in the years before the work was done by machines. No one knows the origin of the term for certain, but it is generally thought that it was a combination of gandy, from the Chicago-based Gandy Manufacturing Company, maker of railroad tools, and the "dancing" movements of the workers using a 5 foot rod ("gandy") as a lever to keep the tracks in alignment The Gany Dancers Ball The Gandy Dancer is a railroad man And his work is never done With his pick and his shovel and his willing hands He makes the railroad run There's Macanaw Mack and Toledo Jack And the boys from Idaho And the Frisco kid and Saginaw Sid And good old Cotton-eyed Joe Oh they danced on the ceiling And they danced on the wall At the Gandy Dancer's ball Hey!
