Home computer running XP serv pack3, 3g ram, when I type anything like a reply to an email or a reply on a thread my actual letter posting lags behind my keystrokes by several seconds. I'm not a fast 3 fingered typist, maybe 10wpm, at best.

McAfaee and Lavasoft find nothing amiss or extra. If I reboot it does not do it as badly for about 5 minutes. Any guess?

probably the last update on a service pack....... try going back to a date before the last update and see if it still does it.

I will look and see when that was, but I have had auto updates turned off for over a year. It's only been doing this for a few weeks

Is you AV program running a scan in the background

Spyware will slow you way down

How old is the machine

Update some memory will always help

Look at you task manager to see whats using up you resources

Remove any unnecessary programs from starting when windows starts

Install Service pack 3

AVG is a pretty good anti virus program it is Free Version Available

I have recently tried out

Microsoft Security Essential its a free Spyware / anti virus FREE

I use Open DNS as a filter to block malware and Phishing sites FREE

If the OS is an old install ---- back it up and wipe it clean then button it up..

Remember most programs you can buy there is a good chance there is a free on out available

Check properties on my computer, it is running service pack III, and there is 3g ram, not 2 like I thought.
