Using the choke

Recommended Posts

When the bike is cold, I pull the choke out about half way ... start the bike, wait about 30 seconds and then push it in to the point that the rpm's drop to just above idle (appx 1000-1200 rpm) ... then I let it warm up for maybe 2 or 3 min, then I push the choke off.

2 different bikes. I wish I could have kept my X when I bought the RSV.

I had V&H pipes and a Pro-R Hypercharger. Not a cold weather bike w/ that combination. I had to use the choke more often than what I should have.

Not sure if you are on the VTXOA forum, but I replaced the pilot jet w/ one of Hicks and it ran much better.

First start of the day (temperature below 75 F or so)... Choke out, start, drive off, close choke within 30 seconds.

On a warm day, I rarely have to choke on subsequent restarts unless the bike has been parked for 5-6 hours. Choking is usually necessary below 60 F if the bike has been parked more than 2-3 hours.
