Shot Posted August 13, 2009 Share #1 Posted August 13, 2009 During the last couple of weeks my 2004 Venture R/S has been back firing when I slow down, especially if the motor is hot. I have been doing a lot of traveling lately for the PGR and the miles are climbing. I'm sure some of you have had this experience; is it timing, plugs, or what? Need your help. PS: Leaving out this morning for Fayetteville, NC for a PGR mission. The mufflers will pop.
Sailor Posted August 13, 2009 Share #2 Posted August 13, 2009 A good tune up will stop it.
Snarley Bill Posted August 13, 2009 Share #3 Posted August 13, 2009 the two main causes of this is an air leak in the exaust head pipe, and the smog air injection valve. deactivate the air valve first and see if that cures it.
Wrongway Posted August 13, 2009 Share #4 Posted August 13, 2009 Well I had it very bad. At Maintenance day we got rid of about 90% with carb adjustments. At The Hub, I borrowed Brad's Carb-Tune and got it essentially spot on. No more backfire. My bike is very sensitive to out of synch, yours may be too. midnightventure Posted August 13, 2009 Share #5 Posted August 13, 2009 Mine did that when it was brand new. After I synched the carbs it went away.
