We are one of only 2 states that do not allow concealed carry under any circumstances. Illinois being the other. On the bright side, our State Attorney General has effectively decriminalized open carry by denying the LEOs to opportunity to press charges for this "offense". RR Don't feel bad, LEOs are not allowed to carry off duty in WI either. I have found a shoulder holster to be the most comfortable when riding (other than riding I cannot stand them). There was a law recently signed I do believe, that will allow any LEO of any type to conceal anywhere within the contiguous US. I guess a shoulder rig or 511 vest is my best bet? Pic Posted July 14, 2009 Share #8 Posted July 14, 2009 Carry my KelTec 380 in the gun pocket of my leather vest when riding. Doesn't take up much space or weigh alot. If I stop someplace that I can't carry inside I put it in my Tourpak in one of the sleves at the back and lock it. For all you folks that balk at me carrying a 380 instead of cannon (I have 9mm, 44's and 45's I could carry) remember it is better than not carrying at all. Sometimes I do carry my Bullpup 44 specail, just the 380 lighter and easier to conceal, can put it in my jeans pocket if I want to. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The inner left pocket was modified by a great seamstress and lined with a thin leather sleeve. Yes it was part of the Patriot Act signed by the president. It is still in effect. Covers active law enforcement or retired with at least 15 years of service... jlh3rd Posted July 15, 2009 Share #15 Posted July 15, 2009 gs51 my short answer is..i don't worry about it......in the 5 past years that i've traveled all out west...and this year the blue ridge and natchez trace.....i've never encountered any mishaps with the law......... i have a harley davidson pouch that fit in the space on my former electra glide where the radio could go. this black bag has belt loops on it......so this bag rides in the trunk or side bag with my pistol in it...and i put it on if i feel i need to when off the bike.......and the pistol is on the night stand next to the bed in the hotel at night...... Individual States cannot prevent an Officer from carrying. If the state has a reciprocating agreement with my state I go ahead and carry. If it doesn't I stop and unload and separate ammo from the gun. I have a Kel-Tec .380 and a Kel-Tec P11PK 9mm pistol. The 380 is the lightest handgun available next to a single shot derringer. The P11PK is only a few ounces more and a bit more accurate. Not that accuracy matters too much because most confrontations take place at 7 feet or less. Bottom line: go to a reputable range and talk to others, try several different handguns and then make your choice. However the most important item: Hit the range often, perfect practice makes perfect. Another poster asked about crossing state lines. There is a handbook published by a lawyer that lists the rules in every state and who recognises who. I'll try to find the link and post it. My other guns I have shot a lot but the 380 I haven't even put a full box through. It is surprisingly accurate although much harder to shoot accurately than my other guns. I had a P32 Keltek I liked a lot, however I wanted a little more power. Went to the P3AT. Consistently ran into failure to feed problems/ejector problems. Tried a second generation-same issues. Sent it back to the factory, got it back and the same problem occurred on the second magazine I ran through it. Since both my son (a career marine) and my brother in law all had similar problems, I gave up on it (as did they) and went back to my old J frame smith .38. They MAY have fixed the problem in the last couple years-don't know, however when using ANY small auto, be sure to buy several brands of ammo and run a BUNCH through it to be SURE it will go bang, each time and EVERY time. Any piece that won't is, at least IMHO worthless as a carry piece. With that said, I've found a pocket holster in the left front pocket of my riding pants works well (I'm a southpaw). I carry everywhere I go except in federal building that do not allow LEO's to carry in them. It may be small but I only plan on using it to protect myself, my family, friends I am with or other LEOs who need help if I happen to be around. I am now retired and dont plan on using it to police. I don't go to any state or business that does not recognize our inalienable right to defend ourselves. I'll go as far as to say that they should be stricken from the union.
