Wiring driving lights, other simple questions

Recommended Posts

We are picking up our 2007 RSV this Wednesday, and I planned on adding some modes to the bike within the first month.

Some things I wanted to add were the driving lights ( Light-bar ) . I added a light-bar on my VTX, and are familiar with wiring, relays etc.

Is it hard to do on the RSV? I'm assuming the tank comes off etc?

Also I planned on adding luggage rack. I noticed Yamaha makes a nice one for the bike, is that what you would recommend?

I also plan on adding some LED's to the bike. About 200+ plus, so I'll be removing the gas tank, to light the engine, and running some up front of the bike, plus in the rear under the saddle bags. Any threads on this, so I can get some ideas for the placements of the LED's?

Exhaust - Not sure on this one yet. I had 4 different exhaust systems on the VTX before liking the one I had. I'm looking for an exhaust system Little over stock, Little rumble down the road, but not loud enough to give the wife a headache when we take long trips, 300 miles + in a day

Here was my last bike, before and after, so you can see I'm comfortable with working on bikes:

This may be of the most help to you for waht your looking for.

There are many threads containing lots of info related to your questions here.

Click on the "VR TECH" section and page down to the "2nd gen" section.

Nice looking 1300S. I traded my '04 1300S back in June for my Venture. Is that the Extreme Revolution fairing? By chance were you ever on the VTXOA forum? What was your id?

Here's a pic of mine. I went through many transformations over the years before I traded it

(do those bags look familiar? LOL I was in the middle of another transformation when I traded it)

(Yes I know the flags are not at the top, wasn't done on purpose. Never could get them to stay up and ended up taking them off)

I have Baron's Nasty Boy Bag Slash slip-on pipes and they sound great IMO. There are others that have Baron's 4-2-4's that love them too.

Im right in the middle of adding LED's. Mounted one right under the driving lights aiming down on the fender, one under each air box, one over each cylinder, one strip under each saddlebag and two under the trunk. Ill post pics when done.

As far as the driving lights are concerned every time you remove (split) the fairing you have to drop that light bar using a ball end 6mm allen head wrench, which becomes a major pain. There is a member here who makes a light bar adapter out of aluminum, which, when installed lowers the light bar and moves it forward a bit so you can split the fairing without removing the light bar. Saves you much hassle in the future. I dont remember who but im sure someone will chime in with his name or you can do a search for light bar adapter.

As far as exhausts, most of us, myself included run Harley R/K mufflers. Usually no more than 50.00 off of ebay brand new takeoffs in most cases. BUB makes a nice sounding muffler too but about 400.00 a pair.
