  2. I have a 2008 yamaha venture Royal Star My wife and i total weight of us is 415. I understand that motorcycle max weight is really a safety for them. my tires have a load index of 74h. they are michelein tires. Which from the manufacture that is 800lbs~ This bike is clearly designed for two passengers for touring which wife and I are planning a very long motorcycle trip i know the luggage bags can only hold 20lbs each However my question is if the max weight of the bike is 419lbs and two avg size people hit that max can the bike really not handle any form of balanced luggage and if so how much more do i air up the tires and how do i find out how much weight is on the rear tire from the bike alone? Ive looked all over the bike and there is now PSI chart. my honda furi has one on the frame but this one does not i cant find anything online such as a chart for weight / PSI ratio or anything. Any help with experiance would be great one how much we can actually load up psi recommendations etc

  4. I met Bob at a M&G in Florida, years back, He had given me a Star Shield Card, His wife had contacted me and said, (That he really like me) I carry the card til this day, in memory of him.
  5. Next is, check out the coils, I think it's #2 that governs that part of things, keep in mind that these machine will run very nice on 3 cylinders, so you might not even notice if you drop one.
  6. I've already changed the TCI (I bought it from Carmo electronics), the problem still exists, but thanks for the help. I simply don't know where to look to resolve this.

  9. That I haven't heard of at all. I thought used was just plug and play, but then I've been wrong before.
  10. First thing I would check out is the TCI. It's under the battery floor tucked away and hard to get at.
  11. Stick with the 86 and up. Yes there was a cooling upgrade. On second thought, go new, high output. A used one can fail at anytime and you'll have to do it all over again.

  13. As an additional question, is there any difference between the early and later model stator? I've found a few NOS for the 83-85 Venture in the cooling upgrade kits. Mine is the 1989 model.
  14. My Yamaha XVZ 1200 - 83 has a problem that I can't identify what is causing it. After warming up and running for 1 hour the tachometer drops out it missfires and power loss until it stops, if I try to start it straight away it feels as if the battery is dead, the tachometer continues to not work and it continues to lose power and I hear all the relays going off, I wait about 15 to 30 minutes and it goes back to normal. Can anyone help?? Im form Portugal, Madeira island to be more precise, finding material or parts for this bike is very difficult around here.
  15. The minimalist I want to do is to get it to run and purr. The project will go from there. I got the bike cheap enough that there is a bit of spend room before it becomes a sinkhole of deminishing returns. So ... I've decided to give the Ignitech a go. I've been doing some web surfing about the unit and it looks like a good flexible solution. Options on the table at the moment are new direct or used on classifieds. If I went with a used one to keep costs down, would anyone here that did that one have the setup file to share so I can ensure the right one is loaded into the Ignitech TCI?
  16. Hello everyone! So while riding home a couple of weeks ago my voltage gauge went from 14 to 12 volts but I made it home with no issues. I was actually more worried about running out of gas as I also developed a fuel leak at the same time! I followed Puc's testing advice, which shows the stator is gone. The OEM stators are getting pretty rare, although not too surprising, given the age. Has anyone found an aftermarket company that supplies a reliable replacement? Thanks!
  17. You are right on with costs. Bike, TCI,,,,,,,,, any you have just started. Tires, carb diaphrams, brakes, frame, fuel lines, slave cylinder, master cylinders, front forks,,,,,,,,. Best maybe count the costs before you sink with it.

  21. What about this one? It looks totally plug and play? https://www.carmousa.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=493_4686_2129_2612&products_id=2344
  22. Thanks for all the tips this far. As per the video and pictures I posted to the links, this box is too far gone beyond my abilities to repair. So definitely looking for a replacement. Which is the recommended option? …. A used old but working box off of eBay or a a new modern box from Ignitech? By the time either gets to me, the Ignitech is about 30% higher cost. And either one is near the cost that I acquired the entire bike for, meaning near doubling the cash sink I have into it thus far Decision point. Resell the bike. Part out the bike. Or get a TCI and ride the bike - and which TCI.
  23. I think we will always wonder what could have been. Amazing to me that Yamaha now offers nothing at all. They just gave up on that market.
  24. Shadetree Surgeon bemoans the loss of The Royal Star Venture V-4 at 13:22 in this video. He is not real happy with the V2 version of the "New" Venture.
  25. Some of the issue with the TCI unit was faulty diodes. Do a search on TCI diode replacement and you should come up with some discussion with photos on how to fix them. Looking at works, it does appear that moisture was being held in the box and cause some corrosion to the connections. Might check Ebay and see if you can find a replacement that is reasonably priced. Some of us upgraded our TCI boxes to Ignitech. URL line.. https://www.ignitech.cz/en/vyrobky/tcip/tcip.htm This might be an option for you. I hope this helps you out.. Rick F.
  26. Charged up battery after it died last week and got it tested and said it was OK so put back in. Then this week drained(by bleeding) old clutch fluid and rear brakes. Rode for a couple days then had son help bleed front left caliper(too hard to reach by myself) on my bike lift I bought a few years ago. Couldn't turn handle bars to level out master cylinder on bike table because of wheel chock clamp. Was having a slight extra pull to handle bars stopping which caused a slight imbalance. Back brakes seemed not to grip as well so ended up re-bleeding clutch, front brakes and back brakes, now everything seems a lot better(pads all around were good) Phantom wanted me to pick up her prescriptions so I told her I had to take bike for a test run, showed up over an hour latter to -----where were you----- told her couldn't just go there and back(as we all know). Then today our hydro was out from 7am to 1pm for infrastructure(new lines buried) so she told me to go for a ride and pick up her cigarettes(Reserve) Heavy drops leaving town, got to 1/4klm from destination and started to rain. Waited on picnic table 15min then got on and rode 20klm to next destination(Princess Auto) where I picked up a few things. Was going to meet Marcarl but clouds were really black that way so drove North to bypass and made it to a restaurant when it started to downpour. Stopped and had lunch then went out to put rain-suit on. After putting on had a light drizzle then NOTHING the rest of the way home(as usual) Probably going 50klm to meet up with @ReinyRoosterand @XV1100SE Wednesday or Thursday!
