  1. I have two 06 rstd one with the gears it is much smoother and just gets to 5th a little sooner no problem with r's that I have noticed usually ride up to about 140 kph which is about 85 on the understandable scale as mentioned if I wanted more top end would install the commander to up the rev limit and smooth out the timing have not felt the need to do that so far
  2. Reluctant to ask but what are leveling links?
  3. I have two 2006 RSTD because I live and work in two locations 5 hours apart and need a car when I get there. For the price of one new Roadie I have 2 RSTD and don't miss the Roadie one bit in comparison to the Tour Deluxe. So, one of the TD's has the VMax rear and one is stock....and I can't make up my mind if I like one better than the other..the power band is so tolerant and yes, I am in 5th gear more on the VMax'd model but the turns are about the same in fifth on that one as they are in fourth on the stocker. The only time I notice the difference without thinking about it is when pulling away, that lower rear gives a bit quicker, smoother easier start. Having had both I do not think that I would make the change..I just ride the stocker in 4th up to about 110kmh (65-68 miles per hour) and for me that is most of the time as we have lots of highway patrol and radar and I'm normally not in a rush and prefer to enjoy listening to the engine and rolling along.
  4. I think that one of Miles last comments was that he planned to stay on this forum..curious that he is gone all of a sudden..I bought his RSTD and am enjoying it which is why I wondered if he missed the cruise control I am also curious to see if Honda adds the cruise control to future editions of the F6B due to popular demand some of the articles referred to weight savings how much could the cruise control apparatus weigh??
  5. Do you miss the cruise control from the rstd?
  6. have any of you tried the f6b the reviews are not great but???
  7. I have seen ads for rain-x which is the spray on coating that is supposed to prevent rain from adhering to the windshield I have spoken to folks who use it on their cars but I have not tried it checked the label and it appears to be for glass but not for plastic does anyone here know of a similar product that we could use on our motorcycle windshields for those time that we get caught and want to be able to see while making a dash for it..??
  8. So as to the actual change in where we pick up on the power band, is it correct to say that the rpm should increase by 10% at any given speed with the diff change?? If so, at 80 miles per hour would change the rpm from about 3600 to about 4000 and so on and so on??
  9. I guess the RR just wore out no way to identify the cause we replaced it and nothing else have now riden about 6 hours on the new one and no problems with anything. The stator is from Buckeye and they say that their high output stator is designed to work with the OEM RR and they tested it that way. Could be that the poor battery overworked the charging system but we have no way to prove that. Most importantly I am riding again so once again in a fine mood. This is my 6th Yamaha including the FJR and a new Roadstar 1700 (sold) and must say that the RSTD is by far the most enjoyable ride I have owned. It makes me want to ride all the time.
  10. Thanks I will check with Miles for details the battery was nearly shot would not hold a charge had to push the bike to start got working my way through the logic and wondering if the battery had put an undue stress on the RR
  11. Have now found that the rr is shorted out actually smoking when power applied to the main fuse wondering why the failure apparently this bike had a high output stator installed can anyone say if that also requires a different rr can say that the battery was shot when I received the bike and PO recommended a new battery did that but wondering if the battery was in such poor shape does the continual need for charging tax the stator/rr equipment leading to failure realize I have two questions here comments very welcome
  12. thanks will go there now just getting the trailer ready for the dreaded tow instead of ride
  13. Bot this 2006 rstd from Miles a while ago no problems have riden about 12 hours since purchase this evening following good 2 hour ride where everything worked well the bike just quit...dead as a doornail..coasted into a parking lot and did some digging found the main fuse and it was blown changed it and the bike started and ran for 20 feet before the fuse blew again..will get it to the dealer tomorrow hope it lasts the night downtown in the parking lot any suggestions??
  14. I expect to get to it on the weekend no riding just now tooooo much rain one more week and the unexpected storms should be past thanks for the advice
  15. Thanks very much will check the fluid I understood that it was new but worth a look
  16. 2006 RSTD recently bot has the upgraded Barnett clutch installed does not completely disengage when handle pulled to the bar is there an adjustment for this??
  17. What is the stock rev limit for, say the 06 RSTD ??
  18. OK OK it's me David Hall currently moving from Williams Lake B.C. to Armstrong B.C. had just bot a 2006 RSMTD when I noticed Mile's ad with all those cool upgrades..could not resist. Now will soon a have the 2011 Roadstar Silverado for sale and eventurally the first 06 TD. Certainly enjoy this excellent forum and looking forward to having more time to spend on bikes and biking
  19. I'll get some pics soon as I figure how to get them posted the bike is a stock midnight 06 rstd I started my riding career on a 1985 Venture that is partly why I wanted the rstd to get that motor in a cruiser style bike hope to meet some of you on the road one day
  20. Finally took the plunge found a 2006 rstd midnight in my home province appears very well kept seat already off and gone to rick butler for the maginc touch will keep my roadstar for now enjoying this forum and getting ready to lift the hood on the rstd to begin the adventure only non stock item on the bike is that is has road king exhaust sounds cool without being too loud thanks to everyone for your many bits of info made it easy for me to do the reseach i wanted in preparation for the purchase. still snow on the ground here so it'll be month to six weeks before i can ride
  21. I fear no man and only one woman. And it is the fear of thinking that I understand that I fear. I like the 'start another project' approach and will commence to use it starting tomorrow.
  22. Thanks guys great info really helps with the decision making
  23. Turns out the one I am closing in on has had the exhaust changed to Road King and the stock comes along with it. Do you know if the Road King exhaust affects the fuel mixture tothe extent that it needs to be rejetted? Also, anyone tried the Road King exhaust for loud and quality of sound? Apparently the bike is stock mechanical other than for the RK pipes. Thanks as usual for the good info..sure adds to the fun of shopping in this case and biking in general.
  24. MIke, when you say you have the below bike is there supposed to be a picture on the post? Thanks all for your comments I am currently riding a Road Star and really like it but want the V4 for the longer tours and extra pop on the highway when two up
