  1. I don't see all of them on the website, but they had them in the store. I will send some pics when I get home. Then some more after I get them installed this weekend.
  2. So I would just tie the hot wire into the low beam wire and then run to the switch and then to the lights? Would I need an inline fuse or anything else? Not real good with electronics here.
  3. I know people have posted about the 55watt driving lights. I bought a pair of the smaller LED ones for some extra light. Anybody have these and how well do they work. I figured for about $20 I might as well try. I went with LEDs so I would use less power as I want to still run my heated vest and glove liners. Anybody think this will be a problem with those 3 items running at the same time. Not all the time. Also the way I am wiring the lights will be simple (probably not legal in VA, but for inspection time they will be popped off quickly and then reinstalled after). I am going to just run them back to the fuse box in the trunk and wire in a on/off switch to the fairing. They will not go on and off with the high beams or anything else. Just plain and simple on and off. They won't be used during the day so no worry of leaving them on. I should not need any kind of relay or anything right. Just going straight to the fuse box should work I would think.
  4. I guess as of right now I would say make sure you mount your tires in the same direction as the rim. The dealer remounted mine and I reinstalled it and went for a short ride. Seems that the rim direction did matter in my case. Seems to ride well again. I will tell better with my round trip commute to work tomorrow. If I find differently and that it didn't help, I will post again.
  5. To late. The tire has 1000 miles or so already. My plan is to call the dealer and be up there first thing in the morning tomorrow.
  6. I wouldn't think so either, but there must be a reason they have directional arrows on the rim as well.
  7. I had asked this question on another thread and another member suggested that I should start a new one with my question since it didn't seem to get an answer. So here it goes. I have been chasing some odd feelings with the bike. Feels like the front end, but could be the rear transmitting through the front. But the other day when I was checking the air in the tires, I noticed something funny. I remove the rim and have the dealer mount and balance the tires and then I reinstall the rim. Well it looks like the dealer mounted the tire backwards on the rim. If you look at the pic, you can see the 2 directional arrows (one on the tire and one on the rim). They are going in different directions. The tire arrow is going in the correct direction which means the rim is going backwards according to the directional arrow on it. Does this make a difference or can the rim go either direction? Or do I need to go back to the dealer and have them remove and remount the tire?
  8. Exactly!! And the reason I am wondering if it could be an issue is because the feelings I am having started shortly after having the front tire mounted and reinstalled.
  9. Ok maybe I am not explaining this well. Yes the tire arrow is pointing down which is the correct direction. My concern is the rim. Look at the pic and look directly to the left of the tire arrow at the rim. There is also a rotation arrow on the rim. It is going the opposite direction of the arrow on the tire. So that to me means the rim is on backwards. The tire itself is correct. So if the rim itself has a rotational arrow you would think that arrow must run the same direction as the tire arrow. That would tell me the rim is on wrong. Does it matter which way the rim is mounted
  10. Ok I am not sure whether my question has been answered. If so I just don't understand and I apologize. I attached a pic of what I am talking about. The pic is of the front tire/rim and taken from the right side of the bike so the right side of the pic would be the direction of travel. I had the dealer mount the new front tire. It is an actual front tire and not a rear mounted on the front. So looking at the tire, it is going in the correct direction. In the same pic if you look at the rim, the rotation is pointing towards the rear of the bike. SO the dealer mounted the tire backwards on the rim. Is it ok if the rim is going the wrong direction? I have been experiencing what feels like a loose front end since installing the new tire so could this be my problem? Bearings are good.
  11. For anybody wanting a heated vest (and probably other heated items), don't look past Gears brand. I have heated glove liners and decided I wanted a heated vest as well. I got on Ebay and started looking. It is unusual I find something in my size. I just stumbled upon a Gears Gen X 3 vest in the XL-4XL size. I looked up and found some good reviews on them and started bidding. I won it for about $45. Got it and used it this morning. Works great. I was definitely toasty. Granted it was only mid 40s when I left at 3:30 this morning.
  12. My tire is a front tire and is on with the rotation going in the right direction. it is my RIM that what is on backwards. the dealer installed the tire backwards on the RIM. so is it ok if the tire is going the right direction but the RIM isnt
  13. Thanks guys. I feel a little better now. And in the meantime while waiting to wear out the Pirellis and replace with E3s again, there will be some dieting going on. I have diabetes pretty bad and you would think that would give me incentive to drop some weight. Nope, but my wife finally falling into the motorcycle trap with me makes me want to drop pounds so I can have as much fun with her and keep her as safe as possible while doing it.
  14. Ok sorry to dig this up. I have been having a very loose feeling. Feels like the front end, but from what I have read, it could be from the back and feeling it up front. Well I have posted that I have replaced tires, new Hagon shock, new rear brakes and rotors, lubed rear drive and splines. I have checked all the bearings and they all pass the tests. I realize that one could still be bad, but it just doesn't seem like it. I have done the quick tightening of the steering head. So today I am out messing with the bike and getting my heated gear wiring ready. I go to check the tire pressure and I notice something on the front. The rotation arrow on the rim is pointing backwards. The arrow on the tire is pointing the right way (it is a front tire on the rim). So would the tire being mounted on the rim backwards cause any problems as long as the tire is moving in the right direction? I am so frustrated now, it would be such a relief if that is the problem. The bike was so nice for the first 7 months or so I had it and now this lingering problem that almost scares me to ride it.
  15. I will vouch for this. They had a heavy duty shock in house and I had it 3 days later. Quite happy with it. My wife rode for the first time this past weekend and the bike didn't feel any different than with just me on it.
  16. Ok my wife and I got rid of the kids last Friday for the evening and I told her we were going to dinner, but she had to ride the bike. She does not ride at all. Last time she went for a very very short ride was on my sport tourer 4 years ago. She agreed and after the first couple miles she started warming up to it. By the time we got back, she was hooked. So now I am worried about the load on the bike. I am right at 300 and she is 170. So we are about 50-100 pounds or so over the weight limit at about 1344 pounds total weight including the bike. The bike had plenty of power, but I worry about a tire blowout. I know there will be people that say don't go over the limit at all. So my question is about my tires. Right now I have almost new Pirellis. The rear is rated at about 825 pounds at about 41 PSI. I have read that to figure out the weight on the rear, you take the total load and use 60% of that. So I am looking at 1344/60%. About 807 pounds. So I should be ok on the rear tire right? When it is time for new tires, I will go back to the E3 for the higher load limit (even though I do really like the Pirellis).
  17. OK I am having a loose feel in my front end again. Enough that it is making me nervous. So I am just going to replace all the bearings. Not sure if that is the problem or not, but I have checked everything else in the past couple months. Tires new and filled to 40+ PSI. New Hagon rear shock. Drive splines greased when new rear tire put on. Changed final drive oil. Did the steering head checks. No air in front shocks (been that way since I got the bike. 0 air is my preference. Front and rear axles torqued accordingly. Seat is bolted down and tight. So I am just going to start replacing stuff. I at least then know that stuff is new and can rule it out. And the bearings seem like a cheap start. Now my question is what bearings and what numbers and where to buy. This would be for front and rear wheel, swingarm, and steering head. I am finding several, but want to make sure they are the right ones before ordering. Here are some I am looking at. These are supposedly for a 2011 S. It does not say front or rear. Will they fit a 99? http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/14/70/957/15914/26433/PITEM/All-Balls-Wheel-Bearing-and-Seal-Kit-2011-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-S-Parts.aspx
  18. My father in law and I both had a great time. Thanks to everybody. I look forward to the next event. Riderduke if you read this, I just have to tell you I am still batting 1000 as far as meeting up with you and getting wet. 15 miles from my house we got dumped on!!!
  19. Yeah I believe there is just one tube from the petcock and the reserve hole is in the bottom and the regular (ON) is higher up. At least that is how it has been on every other bike I have had. My petcock leaks in the ON position so I always ride in Reserve position. When I stop to fuel (or anytime for that matter), I always turn the fuel off. And then right back to reserve when running again. I am cautious about running low and usually stop at around 160 miles to refill. Usually takes about 4 gallons give or take a few tenths depending on how many more miles or how few less than 160.
  20. I know it is a little late notice. Meant to post this earlier in the week. For those in the DC area, the Mid Atlantic Police Motorcycle Rodeo is this week/weekend. This year it is at the Chantilly Expo Center parking lot. The riders start practicing today and tomorrow and then the competition is Saturday. It is usually a good time and plus you get to see how amazing some of these riders are. It is free unless you make a donation, buy a raffle ticket, buy food, etc. My best friend is a motorcop for Fairfax County so I have been going to this event for years now. Unfortunately, this year I will be at a wedding in NC. So I am leaving work at noon today to go hang out and watch the practice. The practices are usually pretty good also.
  21. DJH I am not saying I didn't like the E3 at all because it was a great tire. My problem with it is that I still had a lot of tread left and they were unbearable to ride anymore. I realize the ride level will decrease with wear, but I expect to at least be able to run it to the wear bars or close to them. Like I said in my opinion, I should have had at least 3000K more miles out of them. So if I can get the same miles from the Pirellis and they cost much less and in my opinion ride and stick in any weather just as good, why not run them. I also have not made it fully through a set of the Pirellis so my tire choice is not a firm one yet. But for the price of the Pirellis, they are worth a try.
  22. Thanks. I did finally find that last night. I was under the impression that the master cylinder was also from the R1 and that is why I couldn't find it. I did some more reading here on the upgrade and realized I should have been looking at the Road Star master.
  23. Thanks. Hopefully get them on Friday night then.
  24. So on the Gen2, do I have to change anything else or can I just change out the calipers? I plan on doing the rest, but I will have the calipers by Friday and since I have not ordered or bought anything else yet, I will likely not have them by this weekend. Can I just swap the calipers now until I get everything else?
  25. I got the calipers, now I just need to get everything else. The braided hoses, 14mm m/c, and the splitter. I believe that is it.
