  1. Low side bag: Things I don't need much at all. Small all in one tool kit and maybe a couple extra tools thrown in. Small first aid kit. Zip ties of varying sizes. Rain gear. Extra quart of oil. Snap on face shield for half helmet. High side bag: Wallet. MP3/iPod. Mostly empty to be able to shove helmet in during stops. Whatever little things I might need during stops. Trunk: Have the trunk bag and all my clothes go in there. Now that I am removing my trunk, I will just line my big duffel bag with a thick leaf type trash bag and then pack my clothes in it. I will strap my duffel bag on the rear seat and luggage rack. If it starts to rain, no worries the clothes will stay dry without having to stop and cover it.
  2. I am trying to figure out how big of a smoker I need to build to smoke a 100 pound whole hog. I have found so many different answers on the internet, I am not sure what to believe, We have done several 40 pounders in the ground or on a small spit over open coals. Well after all this crappy cold weather I told my wife to be prepared for a large spring time party to celebrate the warm weather. I want to do a 100 pounder. A buddy of mine said that if I wanted to split the cost, we could build a new smoker on a spare trailer we have. Another friend has a 250 gallon oil tank we could have but the trailer is not real big so we are trying to keep it s small as possible. We thought about just doing one of the 55 gallon drum smoker builds. That would easily hold a 50-60 pound pig. We also started building a vertical smoker out of about a 5-6 foot tall 5 drawer filing cabinet. We want to mount both on the trailer so we can do a whole pig and at the same time maybe some chicken, ribs, etc. Plenty of food for a lot of people. And a couple kegs as well. And yes you are all invited. Sorry to ramble. Back to my question. 100 pound pig would need roughly how big of a rack to cook?
  3. Finally got some warmer, dryer weather to work on the bike for a few minutes. Got the stock radio antenna off and installed a new rubber amplified antenna. It is on the dash behind the bottom of the windshield. I was worried about the signal, but it actually works so much better than the stock one. Hopefully I will get the plate for the rear done this weekend. Then to figure out a backrest.
  4. Just started on it today and I already love it. Can't wait until I have it done.
  5. And oh yeah, go Peyton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:stirthepot:
  6. If I was a good painter, it would be all black. And definitely not a Steelers fan. I can't handle being a fan of 2 crappy teams at the same time.
  7. Overwhelming is not the word. I started doing mine at one point and after a couple hours and seeming to get no where, I put it all back together and decided that since I can pretty much do anything else on the bike by myself, why not go ahead and pay someone to do the steering bearings. It was just not going to be worth the frustration I would have put myself through. I know a lot of guys do it on their own, but not this guy. Good thing mine were not bad and turned out they really didn't need to be done at the time. So if someone wants to make some extra cash, let me know and I will give you a call when they need to be changed.
  8. Good thing you guys can't see how rusty the bottom of that exhaust pipe is. After the transformation, I will start cleaning it up some more. New exhaust. I have some black finned cylinder covers. And whatever else I can do to clean it up.
  9. My transformation to a Star Glide has begun. Not really to far other than removing the trunk. So far I have realized how easy it will be to replace the trunk fairly quick when needed. I only had to cut a few wires. Ones to the speakers and one to the led light on the trunk spoiler. Have already put quick disconnects on for when I do need the trunk. The cb and intercom wires are just tucked inside the left side speaker box as they will never get used so no need to connect them when using the trunk. So to reuse the trunk it will be a matter of 6 bolts and 6 quick disconnect wires. This weekend I will cut a plate to go over the trunk rack. I am thinking of making a hinged plate so I can get to the cb box. If I take the cb out of the box, it will be a nice place to keep registration, etc if I can make it easy to access. I will order a luggage rack of some sort to mount on the plate. I have an antenna to mount inside the fairing. So I won't have any big whip type antennas. Would have done more today, But I was working outside and it is to cold to stay out there to long.
  10. Just as alcohol, there is certain levels of inebriation in pot use. And just as alcohol, although you may not feel impaired after only a couple, there is many studies that show that even 2 beers, 2 glasses of wine, etc, can impair you even though you don't think so. Just as with pot, you can smoke or eat a small amount and just be relaxed as you would with 2 beers. And then of course you can smoke or eat a lot and become extremely impaired just as drinking 10 beers. Different kind of impairment of course, but there are different levels of impairment with each substance.
  11. I am usually good with just the heated vest and glove liners. Then I would wear a pair of sleeveless Carhart coveralls for my legs. This year I bought a First Gear Thermal suit. Now I put my jeans and short sleeved polo shirt on for work and just throw the suit on top. I do still have to wear the heated glove liners, but I am warmer with the non heated suit versus all the other stuff. Plus it is less time getting ready for my commute at 3:30 in the morning. I have left the house in at about 15 degrees and was still warm and toasty when I got to work. And that is 30 miles on the highway at about 75mph. Can't say enough good things about the suit. And it is waterproof as well.
  12. A few of you have been talking about how it makes you lazy and talk about burnouts. When I talk about it being legal and people being able to just buy it and use it, I guess I think of the responsible users. I am not talking sit around every day and do nothing but use pot. That to me is like comparing a full time alcoholic to an occasional social drinker. Do I drink, yes. Maybe once a month when I am with the boys watching a game or we have a get together. Maybe twice a month if I get the urge one weekend to have a couple while cooking some steaks on the grill in the evening. So obviously I am not abusive of it. And that is what I think of when I think of pot use. Once a month or so sitting around the fire pit and partaking. And as far as making you lazy, sure some people use enough that it happens. But I will say that even with all the crazy stuff I did when I was younger and my occasional pot use now, I am far from lazy or burned out. I made it through college, have a successful career, raise 2 kids. I leave work every day and go to the kids school and volunteer anywhere from 3-5 days a week. Then run them to dance, soccer, basketball, cheerleading, baseball, etc. Then come home and cook dinner and clean up afterwards. So I would say that smoking pot did not inhibit me at all or make me lazy in any way. Now once again, I am not really an addictive or abusive type of person. Do I go overboard occasionally? Sure. But it has only been a handful of times in my 36 years. I know everyone has their own opinion, but I also think that you would have to look at each individual that does what they do (or have done) instead of judging everyone because there is a certain stereotype or because in your experience you have seen the bad in something. There is bad in everything and good in everything in my opinion.
  13. I have to agree with JohnT and others that have said it. I don't believe pot is physically addictive, but mentally. And I am not saying it can't lead to harsher drugs, but even you yourself said some people have addictive personalities. So are you saying that if somebody has that type of personality, it should be banned from all the other responsible people? If that is the case, we should outlaw motorcycles. They can be very addicting in many different ways. There is the money people spend on buying every bike or accessory they see and want. There is the speed addiction that can harm themselves and others. But there are some responsible riders who know there spending limits or just enjoy riding and not putting themselves or others at risk. This is just one example out of probably thousands of non drug related examples I could come up with. So why punish the responsible because of individuals that can't control themselves? That is just my opinion. Not trying to start fights. Just trying to work through everything here and understand all the opinions.
  14. The company is Growlife. The stock ticker is PHOT. The company is the one that has sold Phototrons for 25 years. They have put together a pretty good management team and have some good ideas for the industry. A lot of people say they are a pump and dump company, but at this point in the growing industry, it is hard to tell who will do well and who won't. And please don't take what I say and not do any research on your own. I am not a professional investor. Just like to play sometimes and I win some and lose some. On this one, I won so far. Like I said, I bought 100K shares for .06. It got up to .about .47 and I sold half at .44. So I paid about $6K and by selling half got back $22K. The stock rose rapidly and dropped just as quick. It has been around .20 for a couple weeks now. So I have made plenty of money so far and if it drops out and I get nothing from the last 50K shares, I am still ahead and happy. And if I hold and it goes up over the next couple years, I will be even happier.
  15. As far as the tax part of it goes, I think the initial few years will make an impact on the legal state’s budgets. After it is legal for a few years and the hype settles down some, I believe you are correct that it will be just like any of the other taxes out there now. But if it can help some of the states in bad shape now to climb up to an even point, I think it would be a win for them.
  16. I agree. I did not start this thread to start fights. As I said, I am just intrigued that such a thing as this is happening in my lifetime. Similar to the whole alcohol prohibition times which was a big thing in our history in this country just as this is now.
  17. At the risk of being shunned by some, I am intrigued by this whole legalization trend. I used to partake in my younger years and maybe once or twice a year now as an adult. I will say that honestly, I would rather be sitting around the bonfire on the weekend burning one than drinking. I don't feel bad the next day and when I was younger, I didn't do stupid things when I used pot like with alcohol (like rolling a dune buggy after some homemade blackberry shine). And I will be honest, I am not a stupid man. I know that as my kids get older, they are going to try things behind my back just as we all did in our teens. I can say that I would much rather catch my kids smoking a joint than drinking a buttload of alcohol. Will they be punished either way. Yes of course but once again I am not stupid and know that they will do it no matter what I do. And I would feel much safer with the pot use. And people will say that pot is a gateway drug. To me alcohol is as well and we all know kids drink. The other aspect of this trend I like is the money making part. No I will not grow or sell or anything like that. I do a little stock trading here and there so about 6 or 8 months ago, I invested in a company that sells grow equipment and has some other exciting ventures into the legal pot world. I bought about 100K shares at $.06. Well a few weeks ago I sold half of the shares for $.44 each. You do the math. I almost quadrupled my money and still have about 50K shares left for the long run. Will it make me rich. Probably not, but maybe I will have enough to pay cash for a new bike or build a garage or something. So what are everybody's thoughts on this trend?
  18. Will do. Hopefully I can at least get started this weekend. If I can get it through the snow into the basement to work on it!!!!
  19. Sent you a PM!! At least I think I did. I tried twice and my pc and wifi connection are acting up and I keep getting cut off. Let me know if you didn't get it. If not you should be able to email me through my profile. I am interested in the backrest.
  20. Perfect. That is what I was wondering. Thank you sir.
  21. I am getting ready to start a Star Glide type transformation on my bike. I am taking off the trunk and plan on removing all the cb stuff since I do not use it at all. I rarely have a passenger, but my wife and son will hop on for short rides occasionally. We really don't need the headsets to talk, but it might be nice for my wife to actually be able to hear the music through hers. So do I need the cb to listen to the music through the headsets or will the music part still work without the cb?
  22. Well screw it. Common sense (and my cheapness) finally kicked in. I am just going to keep my RSV. It is paid for and I am used to it. It is also cheaper for me to fix it up the way that I really want it than get a new bike all together. I am however going to start removing things to go the Star Glide route. I have poured over any info I have found on this site and figured out what I am going to do. I found one gentleman who removed the trunk, but left the trunk rack and added a diamond plate and a luggage rack to it. That is my perfect solution. I am going to remove all the cb stuff since it does not get used and add an antenna inside the fairing. The only thing I would like to add is a passenger backrest somehow for when the wife or my son wants to hop on.
  23. Agree with packing something of your own for safety. I have only met someone at my house twice to sell something. One was an AR15 to someone that I met through the Concours motorcycle forum. I felt pretty safe but also made it known that I was carrying as soon as I opened the door for the fellow. The second was my old Kawasaki Concours. That guy came over the same day we were having a birthday party at the house for my daughter so just about every adult male (about 20 of them) at the party was carrying. Nothing bad was happening that day. Other than that I usually meet people at one of the strip malls in town and if I am buying, I leave the cash locked in the car and my hand in my pocket on the 9mm until I feel comfortable.
  24. Hopefully I don't get this PMS for a long time. Still riding between snow and ice showers here in Northern Va. Temps mean nothing as long as there is no slick stuff on the roads.
