  1. We've been using them for a couple of years now, they are great. My wife talks quietly, so it was hard to understand her- they sell extensions for the mics to use in full face helmets and that cured that problem.
  2. Lassen Volcanic National Park is within a scenic days ride of Susanville They still have stuff bubbling
  3. We just got home from a fabulous time:banana: at the M & E at Beastwood's home in Chino Hills:biker: We had to suit up for the cold and rain, as it was only 61 degrees and we had a torrential downpour after we got there:rain2: it rained 5 minutes, and the ground actually got wet There were hamburgers and Mexican food:beer: and the swapping of motorcycle stories of woe:shock3: and derring do:happy65: The RSV is a rare bird down our way, so it's good to be able to swap stories and tips:backinmyday: with fellow Venture riders. So, thank you Bob for hosting us:cool10: we had a great time:cool10: - The Shuttlebugs
  4. Debbie and I would like to go:banana: We wouldn't mind an international excursion into Canada to meet our old friends in the north! So anything south of the border would be doable. September sounds good, as every way we can get out of So Cal is blazing hot June through August.
  5. We have some that Debbie made about 20 years ago we got it out for Christmas and it was still good! Not as flavorful as it was 20 years ago, but still tasted good.
  6. We only did about 6,000 miles this year, I had to heal and recreate my bike for the first third of the year Hopefully more miles next year!
  7. Merry Christmas, and a great New Year, Tech Sargent Coffey!! And thanks Puc for the post Mr & Mrs Shuttlebug (Brian & Debbie)
  8. Happy Birthday Cowpuc! I turn 60 this year too (Sept) I hope my birthday isn't so dramatic, though I did spend my first birthday in the hospital Amen to all you said! My Dad worked 50yrs for Chevrolet as a mechanic, with 2 wks vacation a year, "retired" to Social Security with a gold plated watch and a trip to Hawaii to show for it. He enjoyed his retirement 3 years, got a stroke and malingered 4 years and died at 73 years old, 3 wks shy of his 50th wedding anniversary. So, yes have fun while you can, you don't own even the next second of your life After my accident back in October I seriously considered hanging up my riding boots for good, but I do enjoy it so! So here I am back riding again, ready to see what is over the next hill I've only met you once, but we hope to see you and Tippy again, God willing We hope you get all straightened out and back on the road See ya on the trail
  9. Apparently while I was convalescing and I thought my bike was sitting forlorn and wrecked in my shop she was out seeing the world The DMV outed her for me- When we wrecked she had 117,377 on her odometer. The DMV now says she has 1,173,285 on the clock. The government must be right!? Right? The insurance company is going to have a fit now
  10. I don't think I could ride/drive? that, I would be worried about that crazy tailgater back there!! Ok, maybe I don't really have a Franken bike- it's a Phoenix bike, it has risen from the ashes of its funeral pyre
  11. Thank you Cowpuc, coming from you, that is a real complement!! The trailer hitch is there, I believe I bought it from Carbon1 and it was made to be stealthy. More trailering to come! Godspeed to you and Tippy too, we hope to see you on the trail again Mrs. Bug says "Hi, Tippy!"
  12. Sorry to hear you were in a wreck, glad it wasn't worse- though a broken pelvis is pretty serious! Godspeed and may you have a speedy recovery!
  13. Thanks! She still looks good as long as you don't look too close! I couldn't find some of the plastic in the right color, so I had to use ABS cement to piece them together She still rides as good as she ever did, I got a good straight frame for her If someone totaled an 06 venture in Arizona- thanks, the frame is going to get some good miles on it again!
  14. Any other So Cal rides planned? We had a really good time on that Santa Barbara ride! I think we can make it to Venture West now, hope to see you there
  15. Monday, I officially rode my bike for the first time in 5 months to get a brake and light inspection. I took the long way home through the mountains and remembered why I missed that bike, and rebuilt it from that scrap pile in my shop I finally got the blessing from the Rabbi at the DMV on Tuesday, and now she is back in business! I spent today (cold and windy) putting the important things back on- phone charger, heated clothing plug, and a charging plug. The one bad thing is that the Rick's voltage regulator that we got new in Louisville KY back in June, periodically spikes up to about 16-17 volts for a while and then drops down to normal. I guess it is going to die completely soon... I replaced the original? back in Dec 2013 at 100,000 mi with a Rick's High output stator and regulator. The regulator went out in Indiana in June at about 113,000 mi. The Rick's replacement worked fine until the wreck at 117,000 mi-The 30 amp main fuse was blown and all the wires on the right front lower were smashed and destroyed, so maybe I should give Rick's some grace here... but, has anyone had trouble keeping the Rick's regulator in their bike? Here are some pics- don't look too close! Scars are there to prove the past really happened!
  16. Well.. I had just finished fixing a water leak and wanted to see if the drive train still worked- slowly putting around in my yard- and it is So Cal, sandals are appropriate Motorcycle Mechanic wear! Out of my gate though I wear what you see in the top picture, but with a full face helmet. I had taken a quick trip up the road to check the tranny and higher speed performance, then came back and gave the grandkid a SLOW ride in the yard. It was nice to be back aboard again! The pictures are actually two days apart, I put the trunk and the lowers on for the top picture. I'm running out of parts to put on See you at Venture West?
  17. I rode my Venture for the first time since the wreck 5 months ago! I don't know what year it is anymore, since there are more replacement used parts than old ones. Now comes the fun part- making it all legal... I have the titles to both frame and engine, so it probably wont be a problem, just another adventure I'm trying to make it to Venture West on a Venture, and it looks like I just might make it
  18. Here she is. I went to a yard sale and I saw her stuffed away in the corner of their garage being forlorn, so I bought her for $250. Not near as pretty as yours, but she is a work in progress. I just hope I don't pile it into the back of a truck- it is just scary fast! But fun I did a barrel roll with it in the yard once when #4 cylinder finally kicked in- yee hah! http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=96999&d=1423119979&thumb=1&stc=1
  19. I got my cast off, so I had to find out if I could still ride after the accident. So I dug out my old Shoei helmet from 1980 and got the '85 Kawi ZN1100 out of the shop and took a 20 mi ride around the block- no problems, no anxiety, my riding habits were still there. It felt so good to be back on the road. Bring on another touring bike! To those who don't want me to ride again- I am truly sorry, and if I get hurt again, I apologize for putting you through that again. A friend at church had a nephew - a Lt, Colonel no less- who had his neck vertebrae crushed (wearing a helmet) when the front wheel on his bicycle came off and he crashed. So what do you do? You have to die of something, life is dangerous. I don't want to spend my life being afraid of what might happen and never enjoy the life that God gave me. This has been heavy on my mind since the accident, and I have gone back and forth about riding again, but I have found that I really love to ride motorcycles Wish us Godspeed and pray for me and Debbie.
  20. We'll see... it's not wanting to go together without a fight. It's really only one bike- replacing the frame. My 01 RSV got destroyed in a wreck, and I got it in my head to bring her back.
  21. I tried it today on the 2nd mark- which today looks more like the book than it did a few days ago... I think I hit my head too hard in the wreck o_O The marks line up better now. Thank You Brian B
  22. Nobody has taken a 2nd gen RSV apart? Back to guessing
  23. I'm changing the heads on my 01 RSV, and I got the front cams to line up with the marks, but the rear cams are a little bit off. The flywheel has three marks for #1 TDC, looking at the book, it looks like the last mark (turning counterclockwise) is the one- But the marks are 1/2 tooth off on the cam. Two more marks to check, but with my wrist hurt, I can't do much more trial and error Please help, the Yamaha engineers have got my goat!
