  1. Lisa and I should be there.
  2. I am so irritated this year. Because my shoulders are still screwed up from my June accident, I have not been able to bow hunt. Rifle season comes in one week before I have to get my torn rotator cuff repaired. I usually get 5 or 6 deer a season. This year I will be lucky to get one... Tell me again why I shouldn't want to beat that truck driver to a pulp!!!!
  3. From the Vatican..... “We pray for the victims and the wounded, and for all the French people. This is an attack on peace for all humanity, and it requires a decisive, supportive response on the part of all of us as we counter the spread the homicidal hatred in all of its forms.” Seems even the Pope knows it's time to kick some ass. Some say radical islam can not be defeated because they are so determined. As I recall history... the Japanese were pretty darned determined until.....
  4. Time to absolutely level Raqqa Syria.
  5. After 13 years and 120,000 miles on my 2002 Midnight RSV I switched to 2015 1800 Goldwing. My reasons for changing brands was more due to wanting ABS brakes and more ummmph to tow a 650lb camping trailer. However, I was very pleasantly surprised in the difference when I get into the twisties. Holy cow do I have waaaay more fun now! The RSV is without doubt the most comfortable bike out there IMHO... but it is one top heavy pig in the twisties compared to the lower COG goldwing. I can not speak of the BMW... but I suspect it too would be far superior in the twisties. I had plenty of fun on my RSV in the twisties... make no mistake. But... it is so much easier now and I find I am hitting the twisties with far more confidence now.
  6. I like being able to lock or unlock the trunk and all bags with one click. I wish they had included in that the helmet locks. It would be nice if they would unlock along with the trunk/bags.
  7. Chuck, do you use a Garmin GPS mapping software? (mapsource or Basecamp?) If so... I have a gob of route files from years back I could put into single GPX file for you to look at. Of course all the roads I rode... you surely know anyway.
  8. Then there is also leadmine rd. if it is still any good. Pavement was getting a bit iffy last I rode it.
  9. Today we took a ride over the Smokys and onto the BRP. Event though still early, there was plenty of hints of fall color to come. Anyone heading to the Smokys the next week or two is in for a treat I think... Photo and a video below...
  10. Yep... that would work Puc! And Eck is right. I will certainly have my lead-based bear repellent even staying at the resort campground.
  11. ... but I do miss the cassette player... NOT!
  12. Agree. I did end up buying a 40th anniversary wing early this summer and have since logged 12,000 miles on it (them). I am very happy with it. But it will never be as comfortable to ride as my RSV was nor as cool looking. But it most certainly will out run, out maneuver, out tow, and out brake the RSV. The heated grips, seats, adjustable windscreen, XM weather are also kinda neat.
  13. Scott, Smoke Hole Road falls within The Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area which I believe is in fact part of the Monongahela National Forest. Not sure what the situation is with primitive camping as that is not something we do. Most of that entire region, including Canaan Resort lies with the Monongahela NF. http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mnf/recarea/?recid=9915 If you did dry camp along Smoke Hole Rd... that would put you about 40 driving miles from Canaan Resort where most others would be staying.
  14. Some definate banjo roads there! Lol.
  15. Here is another of my favorites in the area. The road to the highest point in WV, Spruce Knob.
  16. ... and we all know those West Virgins are so much better than the East ones.... LOL
  17. I can almost guarantee this will be in the plan. I hate to speak for Chuck... but he knows this road and I would be very surprised if not included. If he doesn't include this... follow me as I will not miss the chance to ride this road again while there. The Smoke Hole Canyon is a very scenic ride. There is a nice somewhat primitive campground at the end of the canyon, but it requires several miles of riding on a gravel/dirt road off of the main road. As nice as this road is... I think you all will find other roads very fun and scenic.
  18. They are probably the most popular MC camping trailer on the market. They set-up quickly. It was not the brand we selected however. We went for a Time-Out brand but ours takes significantly more time to set-up than does the Bunkhouse. But ours has much more space inside and all of it is off the ground unlike the Bunkhouse where as soon as you jump out of bed, you are on the ground. Another advantage of the bunkhouse is that it has storage that is usable when set-up as well. Ours does not have that but we use storage bins so that solves that. Each model has its advantages and weaknesses. You need to decide which features are most important to you. If quick easy set-up and storage while set-up is most important to you... the Bunkhouse should be a very good choice for you. If having much more space all off the ground is more important like it is to us... you may wish to look at Time-Out or another brand. Going to a rally where there are bunch set-up is a good way to see all the different types set-up. The International in Guntersville two summers ago is where my wife started most of the research for us. She walked around asking all the other campers about their campers and was able to see them set-up. Good luck with your search!
  19. Actually they run several places. The rooms over the gas station aren't too awful bad. The place I mean is a mile or so up the road. I think it is closed now, not sure. Probably condemned. LOL
  20. Many years ago... several Ohio members of another club put together a trip to central WV. I decided to join them with my son. Being the frugal (aka cheap_bastards) type... they found a motel with an incredible rate of only $25/night. It was called Yokums Motel. What an absolute crap hole this place was. It honestly looked like something that should be bulldozed. Mattress on bed wore out a decade or so before. Door to bath would not close as foundation settled too much. Floors creaked so bad I wondered if I would fall threw. The 1970's shag carpet was so old some sections were now bald. And the smell... ah yes... the smell. I never thought I could ever think $25 was overpriced... but....
  21. I would urge all to NOT jump into start reserving places. A few years ago when I hosted an event out of Canaan Valley Resort I worked with the group event staff to come up with lodge rates significantly less than the listed rack rates. They also gave me discounted rates on campsites. I would wait until Chuck has a chance to look into a possible group rate. Chuck, am I correct to assume you plan to contact the resort about group rate? If so, I would also push them to throw in a nightly gathering area and maybe have them give a quote on a banquet if that is something you are considering.
  22. Guy asked my weight, wifes weight, how often I ride two-up, etc. They set the shock before it shipped. It seemed just right to me and I never felt the need to adjust it.
  23. OK Chuck. Git to work! I will be there to help as needed.
