Hi and welcome @Elton like @Patmac6075 said the key needs to be in the ACC position to activate the CLASS.  If it still doesn’t work the circuit card likely needs to be re-soldered due to cold and cracked joints.  I to have the short leg problem with a 30” inseam.  The problem with riding without air is it’s a really harsh ride.  The forks bottom out and the rear is like getting hit in the back with a hammer.  I suggest putting in progressive springs up front and alleviate the fork problem.  I’ve heard too about some folks shaving out some foam.  Recently I started wearing boots with a larger sole and that’s helped.

I guess that would work if you had a heel/toe shifter .

Wrong!! You asked. right side up is opposite from upside down. Laying on one side or the other only counts in the chicken coop. Now if you want to discuss lying, then the truth of the matter needs to be addressed.  I really don't know where you are going with this, but so far you have me confused.

    Always easily done...............:duck:

Ohh I thought it was right side up.

Correct me if I am wrong but whether it's right side up or left side up does it really matter cause either way your laying on your side which I always thought was a bad thing.

Carl's wife took him out camping for 2 weeks and the reception for internet was the pits to say the least. The results came in and it turned out that yours truly was exempt from dealing with all the problems and lack of knowledge that might have been exposed during that time frame. I rested and relaxed and so even was able to avoid @saddlebumfor a time, although he did threaten to interrupt my seclusion, but that never matured. Not that I really expected anything mature from him anyways.

Had every intention of making my way down but it turned out ol saddlebum (I mean young saddlebum) had bigger and more important pots to stir up that weekend.  Plus @Marcarl only gave me a location he failed to mention whether or not there would be pepperettes on site.

But don’t most rear tires have directional markings?   That article states that tires with directional markings are assembled with the tread cut at an angle so that the thrust pushes the splice together.  If you mount it in reverse rotation, any thrust would be opposite of what it should be.  It’s not the driven tire so there would be less thrust but even friction would create some.

That is correct. But as stated the thrust forces on the rear or driving tire comes from acceleration or pushing if you will, were the thrust forces placed on the front tire is the opposite it comes from being pushed rather than pushing such braking or simple rolling resistance and the reason for mounting it in reverse rotation.

  6. In general regardless of vehicle, tires can rotate in either direction. The exception here are tires designed specifically for the rear of a motorcycle or have directional markings on the  sidewalls. Now something to consider with the way the plys are layed in a tire it has more to do with the thrust forces placed on the tire than which direction the tire rolls. A tire that pushes as in a rear tire has the opposite thrust force than a tire that is pushed as in a front tire. For that reason if you did mount a rear tire on the front the proper way to mount it would be in reverse rotation. The tread pattern is also a consideration as the rear tires pattern would be designed for displacing water while pushing were as the front tire would be designed to displace water while being pushed/coasting.

100% agree on to each his own...pursuit of life, liberty and happiness (choice of motorcycle) and all that.  Unless we are talking about the "rebel" who lives near me with extremely loud (illegal) pipes who infringes on (pisses off) the entire neighborhood's pursuit of happiness (sleep) at 5am.  Then no.

I will fight for you to ride whatever you want, whenever you want, however you want, until you wake me up at 5am, then its a different ball game.

If noise is your thing, fine, keep it within the legal limits, respect everyone's else rights and we'll all get along just fine.  Like I said, I'm not interested in electric bikes for the "green" aspect.

Its just cool new tech that intrigues me personally for a variety of reasons.  Not for everyone, I understand.  BTW, Harley now has an electric bike in their lineup.  You can probably put a bluetooth speaker on and ride around playing Billy Idol's 'Rebel Yell" at full volume at 5am and still piss off all the neighbors... 😉

With electric bikes they could play artificial  Harley clatter through headsets in their helmet and not desturb anyone around them. But I guess that kinda defeats the purpose of feeling like your impressing people around you .

  8. I think a big part of the issue is trying to copy what seems popular. The trouble is you can never copy Harley because its not just competing with the bike. The Harley brand is almost like a cult your not just competing with the bike but your competing with a persona and a Logo. To prove my point how many pick ups put out a Harley edition just to appeal to that following? How many people buy Harley paraphernalia that have never nor will ever park their butt on a bike of any description? How often has someone admired your bike just to follow up with " I have a friend who owns a big Harley " ?

You need to build a bike that stands on its own merit with reliability performance functionality. but at the same time it should not look to spacey. The 1st Gen venture, The gold wings and the BMW touring bikes were such ground breaking  bikes. But even then the name Harley carries simply because of its following among both bikers and non bikers.

Originally from Northern Ohio and I love the Appalachians for pretty much anything, especially riding. But the snow and cold I can do without now. That super slushy stuff, just nasty.

    Yeh slushy winters suck!!!

I miss the good old days when winter was winter (nice dry cold and snow stayed snow instead of turning to slush) spring was spring summer was summer and fall was fall.

When men where men women were women (tom boys allowed) and children where children. When adults determined right from wrong versus the  me/me youth of today. When relationships developed into a Mom a Dad and several wholesome children raised by their natural or adoptive parents instead  going from birth to day care, to school at age three. kids need to be kids for at least the younger  part of their lives instead of being turned into instant little adults (even pups and colts get time play and kick their heels). They need to see more of their parents than their nursemaids.

I miss the when sticks and stones may have broke your bones but words never hurt you. When arguments where settled with bare fists in 15 minutes behind a building or bar and the outcome signed off with a hand shake and a shared beer or 2 or 3 or 4 ....... Instead of spending half your life in a lawyers chair sometimes for years while they sucked back on your life savings put you in a state of anxiety resulting in alcohol and drug over indulgence. Hand impacts with a real good tight fitting impact grade, 6 point socket work best for this. Also try retighening the bolt that you have broken loose to take some pressure off if you have two bolts pinching the same location. I have also used the ol hitting the bolt side at an angle with a punch to break it loose very effective. I have even used that method very successfully on the smallest of screws. Especially when I have a steel bolt/screw threaded into aluminum.

I have as well even have one with a handle cut from an old adjustable welded to the side so it wont spin in my hand when I use it to break loose bolts up to 1/2 " using a small mallet.

Hey,,, just so you is fully aware,, I've been dealing with meat all my life, I've had to help birth it, feed it, water it, clean it, chase it, rope it, then make it quit moving, hang it, take it down, dissect it, chop it, grind it, slice it, stuff it, roll it, bone it out, put it back together, disguise it, flavour it,  cook it and maybe even dump it. That why they call me a butcher, but I call me a meat processor. Now I is hoping you are somewhat better informed.

So have you ever tried eating it.....:rasberry:

  13. My garage has second dimension and someone from that dimension keeps borrowing my 10 and 12mm sockets. Sometimes they will return them and I find them laying on my work bench as if they never left and other times they just don't return them.

Still can’t resist.  Some places the Tri Tip cut of meat isn’t known or popular, but on the west coast USA it’s a staple.  Legend has it starting in Santa Maria Ca.  I often travel to Vandenberg SFB and bought what it told to be the original seasoning from a small deli.  Well I’ve cooked many of tri tip from smoking to roasting and my favorite has been grilling it like a ribeye.  Until now.  I used the same suzie q seasoning I bought in Santa Maria but pan seared it in cast iron with a butter baste.  If a picture could deliver flavor here is my effort for y’all.63A7605A-C55C-4DAE-8D9B-38B3EFDF3DD0.thumb.jpeg.37aa5eee7efe9fccb45dc15e9be1eacf.jpegB5EE31AE-9E8F-4A80-BDE0-AB91D81F1210.thumb.jpeg.82ad2521291c4ceab6cb76e19f8dce82.jpeg

there are 2 pinch bolts on the upper tree and the lower tree. I was able to loosen the 2 bolts on the upper tree. There are 2 bolts on the lower tree (a lower bolt and an upper bolt), I am having trouble with the upper bolt on the lower tree…both sides.

Get a torx bit slightly larger than the socket hole in bolt. Grind the end of it flat so you end up with sharp corners. Grind lightly so you don't heat the end of the bit or keep cool with water. Now drive it into the end of the bolt. The now sharp corners will cut matching grooves in head and as well the tapping action of driving the bit in will help break the threads loose. Put a socket or wrench, on the bit once you have driven ti all the way in and carefully and gentle wiggle back and forth until you feel start to move. Once it starts to move continue the back and forth movement from stopping point to stopping point until it fully loosens and you can easily back the bolt all the way out.  If you have not rounded the hole out yet, try  putting the proper fitting allen bit in the bolt  and wack it a few times with a hammer like your trying to drive it deeper and than follow the back and forth motion described above. Avoid using too much force as you work it back and forth.

I got rid of the proportioning valve, delinked by blocking the brake line to the front. Pedal now operates the rear only.

Not ideal. but at least now I have brakes.

Can I operate the 2  front calibers with the original front master cylinder?

You can. You will however notice a slightly softer and longer stroke feel on the lever at the same time quicker front brake response. It may take you a few stops to get use to the different feel.

I saw something like this today. I was riding on a two way local highway with a speed limit of 100km. (Canada) and there was a bit of traffic up ahead. Not going slower than the maximum speed limit but slow to some people. There was a couple of RVs doing the up to the maximum speed allowed. I was in the middle of two RVs and suddenly there was roar and two Harley's roared on the shoulder and overtaking on the right side over the shoulder. It was crazy. Not only did they overtake one vehicle they overtook about 5 vehicles all from riding on the shoulder.

These kinds of guys gives riders a bad name.

And drive up insurance cost for all of us.

I agree but actually think it would have been easier to meet admissions standards with a water cooled V4.

I have heard that Honda is continuing only their DCT (automatic) version of the Wing because they can more easily control the emissions on it than the manual.

Water cooled is a big part in controlling emission's since cylinder temp hence exhaust temps can be more readily controlled. If exhaust temps are too high you create NOX (nitrous oxide) emissions and if they are too low you create particulate matter (soot and carbon) emissions. This is were automatics (though many of us prefer standards) come in, by controlling shift points, you add another means of controlling  exact fuel ratio and exhaust temps, as well as fuel economy.

  19. Also study your schematics and see if there is any commonality with the wiring circuits of the speedometer and interlock switch. You may even have a situation were the interlock switch signal is back feeding through the speedometer signal canceling out the speed signal. This could be the result of a dirty or open circuit in the interlock circuit resulting in currant taking an alternate path through the speedometer circuit canceling out the speedometer.

  20. It is definitely a shame! I love my 1st gen and to me some refinements to that would have been ok in my book. Heel toe or not I think should be something flexible in the design so each individual can choose what they want as well as the option to have forward pegs or floor boards or underbody foot pegs (my favorite, a real back saver in my book). The design should also incorporate the bikes ability to handle a small degree of off road, which I found the 1st gen not too bad at. Quick lock removable bags (but rattle free design) would be nice as well. A Harley clone to me is just effort after foolishness since if someone wants a Harley they will just buy a Harley. When I ride by Harleys being pushed at a busy border crossing or stop and go traffic on a hot day, I am so grateful for my 1st Gen.  I want a bike for its reliability and its rideability on a variety of not so perfect surfaces, not its fashion factor.

  21. Also its not uncommon for these bikes to run a bit sluggish if they sat this long. Before you get to far into it, put some fresh gas in it add some seafoam or other carb cleaning additive and ride it hard. keeping the rpms to the high side. Often a good highway run is all that is needed after a long sit. If things do not improve  after this than start looking into possible causes. Start by trying one the hotshot methods of cleaning and flushing the carb.

I wholeheartedly agree. The proven reliability of the V4 and lack of vibration were big sellers for me in choosing the RSV. I like to make Harley jokes as much as anybody just as I do Fords, I also enjoy getting roasted about my Chevy’s and rice burner bikes but there’s nothing wrong with Harley or Ford if it’s what you like. That being said if I wanted a V-twin I’d have bought one instead of Yam. My other turn off is the addition of so much tech, I like to fix my own stuff but am a techno-phobe. I already gave up working on my truck but still like tinkering with the bike. I sure would’ve liked trying a new V-Max powered, fixed fairing, water cooled rocket without key fobs and touch screens. Maybe my old boss was onto something when he accused me of being resistant to change🤷🤷🤷

I too fit this category and also get accused by my boss who is younger than my 1st three kids  and used to be my apprentice, of being resistant to change. However I am a big advocate of keeping life simple  and comfortable rather than complicated and having to constantly keep up with change. I like stuff that is self repairable and even though I am more than capable of working on the higher tech stuff it is the fact that A) it can not be patched on the side of the road if need be and B) most of the high tech stuff each require their own specialized additional tools and software (plus the means of working with it) beyond that found even in the most extensive average tool set. The technical world is removing our ability to be self sufficient and forcing us to be dependent on stuff we did perfectly well without in the past and really don't always need to exist. That is not to say I am against all advancements as some advancements, specially in medicine are a good thing but where do we draw the line. Obviously there are those who disagree and love nothing more than to indulge in every new gadget that hits the market but that's not me. I'm totally content to manually turn my lights off and on, lock and unlock my doors or use an old fashioned key to start my car.
