  1. I'm looking for an ignition switch for an 87 venture. Mine is missing from the bike, can use a screwdriver to switch it on. If anyone has one to sell, let me know
  2. yeah. I searched again and found it. Thanks for the info.
  3. Heard the noise after another long ride in the mountains. Scared me at first because it sounded like it was coming from the bottom end. after a bit, it sounded like a heat shield rattle, but everything is tight. Seems to be coming from the box/ collector under the bike. Anything in there that could come loose?
  4. We took our first ride today in the North Georgia mountains. Bike ran great, still needs the carbs cleaned, but was a lot of fun. Played with the air pressure in the rear with the Warden on the back, seems @ 45-55psi is a good setting. Nice and smooth. All in all, it was a 6 hour ride up and back. She said she loved it and wants to go again next weekend.
  5. Thanks guys, looks like everything is working just like it is supposed to. I was wondering if anyone has put power to the class while the ignition is on, not just acc.
  6. Thanks, but I got it working, just wondering about the pressure in the front.
  7. Well, I pulled the board from the class control unit, and re-soldered all the connections, Boom! Working air system. The front will only pump up to about 21-23 psi though. I stopped the rear at 80psi. Everything seems to work, auto to manual, front/rear,etc. Just wondering about the front pressure.
  8. Finally found the issue!!!. It was the glass fuses. The signal fuse had broken loose inside. Still looked intact, and even had continuity through my meter, but wouldn't flow the juice. Replaced everything with ATC fuses and all is good. Now the issue is with the CLASS. It shows an E4 error, but it only lights up when switch is in acc. When ignition is on, it stays blank.
  9. That looks nice and tidy. I checked the class fuse and it was fine. Does power go through the computer and then out to everything?
  10. Update: Still cant find any obvious issue. Going to change out the fuse holders with ATC type, hoping maybe the glass fuses are crap. Also, forgot to mention that the bike never had power to the CLASS. I have no idea if that has anything to do with the situation.
  11. The first pic shows the inline fuses the second shows the fuse block and whats left wired in. the third shows the display. No neutral light, fuel gauge etc. What send the info to the display?
  12. Ok. Checked all fuses. All good. Checked as much wiring I could get to, nothing obvious. I've always been less than proficient with electronics, so that may be part of my problem. Also, the tail light wire leaving the fuse goes to ground, but the fuse didn't blow, but the wire and fuse holder got hot. I hope this project does not go like the other one. Pissed me off because the bike ran good on the way home. I figured I would change the plugs and be golden.
  13. Thanks for the input. I put an inline fuse for the ignition, headlight and turn signals. The metal prongs started breaking, so thats what started this whole process. Also, when you hit the starter button, the lights go out. I'll try to post up some pics later.
  14. Howdy folks. I was an active member here a couple of years ago, while working on a 83 with carb issues and whatnot. Got disgusted with that and scrapped the whole project. Now I just bought an 87 venture royal that ran great when I rode it home, so i changed the plugs and it started right up and ran even better. Then I replaced the fuses in the fuse holder with inline fuses because the prongs were broke on a few, now no display at all. It lights up, but no neutral light or anything and also won't start the bike. Any ideas on what happened after the fuse change?
  15. Have you checked for spark on that cylinder?
  16. Well I guess gunky carbs are the what everyone thinks. Any ideas on a pine-sol soak?
  17. I know there are dozens of carb threads, but I'm dealing with a hardly running bike, so I'm trying to narrow it down as much as I can. I bought this bike last year from a friend who never had it running and had it in pieces. I put it mostly back together and replaced the battery and started to try to get it running. It will run with the choke on, but will die if you blip the throttle. You can slowly start winding the throttle more and more until you get it to keep reving up but it never runs right. I ran some B12 carb cleaner through the system, but without being able to ride it, I can't tell if it is helping or not. I removed and plugged off the vacuum chamber and as far as I can tell the carb boots are ok. I pulled the carbs off and removed floats, bowls and diaphrams, and cleaned the bejeebus out of them. This is when I got it running with the choke on.
  18. There are not any local shops in my area besides dealers. I don't have a real problem with dealers per say, I just hate for my bike to sit for months and months with no one working on it. I would rather pay an individual for their time knowing I won't have too long to wait.
  19. Looking for a member who would be interested in doing some work on my bike.(84 Venture). I live in Nicholson, Ga,between Commerce and Athens. I got it running but it still has some carb issues. I'm not lazy or dumb, just busy. I work @ 60 hrs a week, and have other obligations and just don't have a lot of time. The local dealer around here seems to be filled with a bunch of pretentious jerks who have no time to deal with a non-Harley owner. But the main reason is turn around time. I would like to be riding soon, not 5-6 months from now. Just send me a PM if you are interested. Also wanted to add that I will deliver and pick up, plus I will pay cash.
  20. PITA is right. GeorgeS sent me a PM telling me about the air box. I had it all the way off. (Thanks George!!!!). I put the air box back on, made sure all the flanges went over the carb tops correctly. I started it up and now I can rev it up as long as the choke is on. Turn the choke off and it dies. I'll pull the carbs again and clean again. I sprayed with a tube stuck down in the passages and all seemed clear. But oh well. Since I'm now an expert at pulling the carbs, it will be a piece of cake.
  21. All cylinders seem to be firing. Still can only idle with choke on. Spray a little carb cleaner and it revs up like a dream. I have no idea what could be going on. If there is something in the carbs, I don't know where. I sprayed all the passages clean. :confused24::confused24::confused24::confused24::confused24::confused24::confused24::confused24::confused24::confused24:
  22. pulled the YICS box and plugged all the lines. Zero difference. After it had ran for a few minutes, noticed that front right cylinder was not as warm as others. Pulled the plug and had fuel on it. As soon as wife gets back from parts store, I'll swap the plugs and try again.
  23. YICS chambers? This seems to be more than a vacuum leak.
