HI all.. I ride into work at 3:15am every morning, usually without incedent. This morning was different..as I was nearing the end of my 40 min ride,ALL my lights went out.. I first notice the dash light, then Headlight, since I was a half mile from destination I just continued on. once in the garage at work, I see I also have no lights in the rear either.. every light on the bike is dead but the radio light, which still works.. turned bike of, and then restarted it to make sure the battery wasnt dead, and it started right up..still no lights.. I am at work and my computer time is limited so, after a quick search for this issue and no luck, I figure it is time to ask for help.. since I still have to ride home.. my first thought is a fuse.. but to have one fuse for every light doesnt sound right.. plus I am at work and dont have manual to even know where the right fuse is located. anyone have an idea of what may cause this and where I should look??? Thank you.... Chuck

Clutch Boss replacement question.
Winddancer replied to Winddancer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well I found my answer when I went a did it.. simple answer Yes and No.. If you can get the nut off without taking out plates and steels then yes.. if not then you have to take out the plates and steels and at that point your pretty much done anyway.. I did however avoid the whole wire piece by using the one on the new that also had the wire and first two place in place.. all in all took about an hour.. I must say, that poor boss was really messed up, last person in there had a very heavy hand, or a very badly calibrated torque wrench.. but all is good now.. I Hope.. off for a test ride.. Cheers!! -
Hi.. I am about to embark on replacing the clutch boss that has a broken stud.. instead of getting just the clutch boss, I found a complete clutch set with basket, boss, plates ect, all together for a few dollars more, figured I would take it apart and keep the extras for spares.. As I look at this thing.. it looks like it can just slip it on the way it is.. So my question is, is it possible to unscrew the center nut that holds in the clutch basket/boss/plates and slide the whole thing out, and just slide this one in?? as I look at book and the bike, some parts of my logic say Yes, it is that simple.. the other part says it can't be that easy and you missing something that will turn this simple project into a nightmare.. has anyone done this?? or know if it can be done, or should I just change out the clutch boss?? Thank you..

Barnett Clutch Upgrade - With Pictures
Winddancer replied to RedRider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
RedRider.. Thank you for this write up, it gave my the visuals I needed, and helped a lot.. funny thing was.. as I was adding the bolts and cranking down the spring to bring the bolt flush with the clutch plate, all that was running thru my mind was, "don't over tighten bad things will happen" Well at 5 down and one to go I had about 1/4 inch of spring left to tighten when boom, the pressure was gone and "bad things happened" Not sure why it happened, but the threaded stud on the Clutch Boss split in half.. It seems as if quite a bit of pressure has to be used just to crank down those springs.. So, a question I would have is, were your springs really difficult to bolt down?? I ask because I am not sure if the previous owner changed anything.. I see in your pics you took out some other modifications, and I just went with the assumption mine was stock since it had the top 3 stock pieces.. thank you again for the write-up Chuck -
I don't see where any voltage is supplied on the 5 pin din.. I maybe wrong, but if the bike is setup to use a dynamic mic, they don't need power to work, so I'm thinking no... I wear a shorty also, and this is the type of headset I am using, cost me $6.00 shipped.. these are the ones I am testing with right now, and if all works, I have a nicer set in mind that has an adjustable back band..but these feel and sound good as they are.. http://images.getprice.com.au/products/BimgLogitech%20PC%20Headset%20120.jpg

I will... so far I am into this project for a whole whopping $12.00 ..hahahha.. and the sound part works well...I was getting ready to wire up the mike , but my son dropped by with an issue with his car and brought the kids so I needed to shut down the soldier gun..

Yes you can cut the adapter and wire it straight into the bikes fuse box, or battery.. All you need is a regulator.. this one to be exact.. it is 1.99 @ Radio Shack Model: 7805 Catalog #: 276-1770 it is a 12v to +5v.. Really super easy to install.. Just soldier your 12v power to 1st leg, your ground to the 2nd, and then the cord to the xm power to the 3rd.. if you can't soldier (this is a perfect project to learn on)... wrap the wires a few times around the legs and use a hot glue gun to keep them attached.. I would cover the whole thing in hot glue or shrink wrap it to make it waterproof anyway.. here is a visual if I have lost you ... I have Sat radio on all my bikes and I wire the power directly into ACC on the fuse box, and use a Direct FM adapter like this to override any station that happens to be on the channel I am using when I travel across coutry.. [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Audiovox-FMDA25-SiriusXM-Direct-Adapter/dp/B000KGLL84]Amazon.com: SiriusXM FMDA25 Direct Adapter: Car Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41oeziHOV5L.@@AMEPARAM@@41oeziHOV5L[/ame] really works well... Hope his helps.. any questions...just ask.. Chuck http://i1158.photobucket.com/albums/p612/winddancer4u/7805wiring_zps82ea9ffb.jpg

Got it.. and they work!!! Thank you!!! Wow.. I never would have figured that out on my own.. now to soldier up the mike and test the condenser mic and see if adding a power source makes this type of headset work with our bikes...

ok how do I put it in headset mode??? I am going to go look now to see if it is obvious

Hi.. I am working on building a homemade headset, one that uses 2 3.5mm plugs, and can be swapped out cheaply, but I can't get it to work, and all my logical knowledge says it should, so I am asking for some help to see if anyone can see if I am doing something wrong... I have the 5 pin din, and 2 female stereo 3.5mm phone jack. I have read the pin out chart which says audio is on pins 1(L)-4®-2(G) for the MALE end of the plug.. the 3 conductor stereo plug is wired with (G) base ® middle (L) tip for sound.. and will be adding (G) base (+5v) middle (Mic) tip (+5v will be run on a separate wire thru a voltage regulator to power mic) I have the sound wired and when I connected it to the bike, I get nothing, sound still goes thru speakers.. tried both front and back connection.. last time I was in the fairing all cables were connected in there too.. this is driving me nuts since it should just work as is.. any one have a clue??? what am I missing?? thanks..

Something wierd with my engine..
Winddancer replied to Winddancer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
WOW.. lots of suggestions... OK, let me try to go thru all I have done, or tried.. Seafoam.. this was the 2nd thing I did,,First was to drain gas..no help.. I tried the test tx2sturgis suggested to see if all cyliders were firing, and all exhaust pipes were hot, so they are firing..(wasnt able to pull plugs yet, but that test atleast says they are all working) I have the lowers still on..although the right side is a little cracked up from my dads accident,it still hold its shape, form and function so should not have an effect. Oil level I will check.. Fuel filler vent thing, and fuel filter still need to be investigated.. Thank you all for all the help and I deas.. I will let you know what I find.. I actually put in Teckron last night to see if theat helps any... To be cont...... hahaha -
Hi All.. I have something wierd going on with my engine, and I am not exactly sure whats going on.. I my get long winded in my explination...sorry... When I got the bike I noticed a slight shudder/studder in the higher gears, mostly when it was under load, when you ease back on the throttle, or at a steady and level cruising speed it is smooth as silk. and it doesnt seem to allways happen.. I thought it maybe missing one cylinder so I went to check to see if they were firing, and I noticed the rear right spark plug wire was just stitting in the hole and not pushed down on the plug at all, i look inside and see the nut on the plug is rusty, so it has been this way a while..I re attached it correctly and checked the left rear then the rest, all was good..fired it up.. still sounded the same, quick test, still seemed to ride the same too..smooth.. now as a note.. the while checking plug wires I see the engine is spotless.. very, very clean..(this is important later).. I rode it into work.. all was good, but shudder was still there.. then about 35 min into my commute, it started to loose power, like it was out of gas.. gage said I had between a 1/2 and 1/4 tank and the trip which I reset at each fill said I went 148 miles, so, gas should be good, but thats how if felt, as if I was out of gas, so I switched the petcock over to reserve, and it was worse .. I quickley turned it back.. it bucked and puttered and then power came back and Iwas back to speed and cruising down the road like nothing happened.. I went to the first gas station, filled her up and it took little over 4 gal.. ride home was uneventfull, hot.. but uneventfull except the shudder is still there, so I was going to pull that rusty plug and see if it was bad.. when I got home I let it cool and then went to remove the plug.. not as easy as I thought, need to read and see what the trick is.. but thats a different story.. anyway.. when trying to remove the spark plug and not having much luck I look at the otherside to see if I get a better idea from that side, and that when I seee the nice clean engine now has a coating of a black carbon/oily substance on the rear cylinder head, but it is only on the rear section of the two piece section..( i will try to post a pick) With the apprence of this black sooty stuff I am worried it maybe more then just a bad plug or unblalanced carbs..(I rode in today and cleaned engine to see if it re appears) Does anyone have a clue as to what maybe going on.. Why I am getting this shudder and the black stuff.. Thank you... Chuck

GPS with weather map. Does it exsist?
Winddancer replied to etcswjoe's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
if you have an android phone try rainy days https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neenbedankt.rainydays&hl=en great little program, very accurate, I ride over 20,000 miles a year and I used it almost daily,, it doesn't overlay a gps map, but it does overlay google maps so you can zoom to street level and see what going on.. -
