  1. Happy birthday VentureRider.Org. I'll drink a home brew in celabration. Maybe 2. Thanks to Don for all the work. I'm sure it's not easy. I found and joined this site the day after I bought my RSV. I don't post as often as alot of ya, but I check in at least once a day. Can't believe it's been almost 5 years allready.
  2. "OK just wondering how the retired among us start their day." I'll be able to answer this in 382 days. Man, that clock sure is moving slow.
  3. We sold our mustang because it sat too low for her. We traded the crown vic because it sat too low for her Moved up to a full size suv because the CRV sat too low for her. Ain't no way shes moving closer to the ground. Plus she likes the 360 degree view she has by siting on back of the bike. I'm certain she would lose that sitting beside it.
  4. That would set Shirley down lower. She like's setting up high so she can see better. Beside she can't jab me in the ribs from down there when I get "frisky" as she calls it. So no, never seriously considered it.
  5. Thanks guys. I really appreciate all the comments and suggestions. We should be putting the finishing touches on the deal tomorrow. I'm a little excited yet worried. I've been riding two wheels a very long time and done just about anything you can imagine on them. Moving away from them seems kinda wrong but I know I'm doing the right thing. Shirley and I are no where near ready to give up riding but know my knees are going. I want to go ahead and do this before a knee gives out I drop it with he on back. That would kill me......or maybe SHE would kill me. Anyway, I'll update here as it progresses. It's gona look kinda funny running around with one saddlebag for awhile.
  6. Doubt it will be ready by then. But We'll see.
  7. Thats what Carl suggested. Sounds like a good idea to me.
  8. We shall see. Mr. Rice said it takes him about 4 weeks to get the kits. A couple of weeks for paint and about 4 days for install. Either way I wont be without the bike for long, and even if I am I have a VTX that I love to ride as well.
  9. Yep, just got back from Coach Rice trikes. He took me for a ride on a goldwing and showed me some of what they are capable of. That was the first time I have EVER been on the back of a bike. He then let me take it out for myself and then I took Shirley for a ride. It's definatly different from 2 wheels but not a bad experiance. I think I'll get used to it pretty quick. We're pulling the trigger a a full kit, running boards, auxilery tank, trailer hitch, reverse and a hitch. Shirley is working on finance as I type. I should be 3 wheeling in 5 or 6 weeks. On a side note, I've questioned myself a few times as to whether I had made the right choice buying the RSV over the wing. I wont do that again. Talk about cramped. I now know for certain the RSV was the right choice for me.
  10. We have sat on a few spiders but have not rode any. We find them uncomfortable and Shirley has a hard time mounting and dismounting them. We're both very comfortable on the RSV so I think we're going to stick with it. The part about doing it before we have to is where I'm at now. The knees are still in fair shape and not causing any real problems but I know the day is comming that I wont be able to hold such a large, heavy bike up. Plus I'm still working and can afford it better now than after I retire in 1 year 23 days
  11. Looking forward to seeing ya'll again. Thanks for all the info guys. As far as a trike making the wife want to ride more, Thats not a problem. I NEVER have to ask if she wants to ride, she's all ways asking where we're riding this week, not if we're riding. We may ride over to Coach Rice trikes in Loganville Friday and find out exact cost. Definatly wont pull the trigger untill this winter tho.
  12. Thanks Owen, She does love them and I'm sure losing them in the conversion would kill the deal.
  13. Thanks for the link Woody. Not looking good for the IR but I'm trying. We locked in for Asheville tho. OK, sounds like there is a breaking in period so to speak. Still a little hesitant to spend that much money on some thing I'm not sure I'll like. On anothe note, I have Carbon one's passenger arm rest on the bike. Can I keep them with the Hannigan set up?
  14. Thanks, but a long way to go before I even know if a trike is for me.
  15. Thanks Brian. I know for certain Hanigans are much improved over the home made one I rode. Hanigan offers an electric reverse for the RSV. I just dont know if I'd be happy with the ride/handling of a trike. Would like to try one out before investing.
  16. As the knees slowly but surely sucumb to aurther I see me turning the RSV into a trike. The only trike I've rode was a home made job back in the late 70s. It sucked. Would love to try a Hanigan before investing. Anybody know where I can ride one in the north Ga. area before investing $16000+ to have my bike converted?
  17. I've been pulling an Aluma trailer for the last 10 years. The only change it's made in my riding is breaking. I give myself a little more space between me and vehicles and break a little earlier going into curves. If I'm not carefull, I forget it's back there. Scraped my boards many times without issue while pulling. The only thing I can think of that would cause any issues would be your tounge weight.
  18. Ooops, Yea, Stevie.
  19. Search for their first album simply titled "Fleetwood Mac" Some refer to it as Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac. Much more blues oriented. I never much cared for them after Grace Slick joined the band.
  20. Steppenwolfs "Majic carpet ride"
  21. I carry the drinking water in my cup holder, Shirley carries a squirt bottle full of water in hers and keeps us both sprayed down. Staying hydrated and wet makes just about any temp bearable.
  22. Here in Ga. if I waited for less than 30% chance of rain to ride, I may as well sell the bikes. With the heat and humidity here in Ga. a shower is often a welcome refresher.
  23. Anything off the Allman Brothers "Live At Fillmore East" album.
  24. I was beginning to think I'd killed the thread with my solution. Glad it worked for you. Cant get any cheaper and if you do it just right.................uhhh, never mind.
  25. "Anybody got a "poor man's" (read: cheap bugger's) solution to this (has to be) common problem?" I just make sure I get the boys adjusted before we go. It may not look very "proper" in public places, but a man's gota do what a mans gota do. Shirley used to fuss at me, now she just laughs.
