  1. I'm completely confused: I just joined a week, and have missed all banter, etc. If someone asked, I say this forum was all about people who love Tuning forks and Stars. At some point I'm going to post a pic of my little 50cc - Looking for pics of my Royal* and tour ready, '93 FJ12))ABS.... But more importantly, FREEBIRD, I swear I have seen you post pictures of a Gen.3, the trunk, oil change...was that not you? I'm half-deaf, but I love what I think I hear....and I have learned to pause when I think I have been "slammed"...works for me anyway....
  2. Well I am confused....wife says, "No surprise..." I placed the order on 6/18/2019, My sticker date os 07/17 JA000285 Grey SVTC Looks like mine got pushed to the back of a warehouse...It did have a heavy cover of dust.... How many were returned for the gasket r/r? I'm guessing the "J" indicated the model year and not the build date....I purchased a "year -old" bike; discovering that it is actually two years old, kinda left a pit in my stomach....so I went for a couple more rides til I got over it...
  3. Has anyone found a cure for this issue? I have set the squelch to 0 and got the static, but sitting on an access road to the Hiway (91), I have heard no chatter on 19, 17, or 11... I have noted the delay in the mic; I also need to work on understanding how that functions. I turned the VOX off, as wind noise kept the mic open for intercom. I am also discovering that sometimes, when the passenger uses her button, the com stays open....I can close it by hitting my trigger... I am only beginning day three with the bike...
  4. Yes, brought it home Friday night. Put on 200 miles; Thunderstorms today...but it's supposed to be clearing soon!
  5. Which caused me to wonder: Is the choke cable actually working? My better half frequently forgets the choke on her Star, and the beast runs like...doo-doo until I remind her to return the button....
  6. Posting Pics as promised... unboxing Wheel applied... One look at behind the seat Clean fender, if ya want it...
  7. Every day: my "garage" has a 10 foot, uphill slope to the entrance and I like to back it in. I did the "front-brake-bump-and-pull" for several years on my Royal and Road Stars. Then I just couldn't do it anymore without risking a fall, a back injury, or just plain too much work... What I love about the SV is that you pull the handle and you can do reverse or forward without any more fuss! If I remember correctly, the Wing requires a gear change to return to forward...?
  8. " A foam block was there instead and is apparently a poor conductor of electricity. " LOL! Holy Cow! That should do it! As I was leaving, my dealer gave me a bag with the stock parts! "...so, there's a blank you can use if you decide to unplug the alarm, and for some reason, they gave you an extra relay..." Whoo hoo! Headed back to the garage right now! Rain in Vermont today.... That worked like a charm - Thanks a million! Rich
  9. Almost a year later...The price has dropped to $210 for the stock and $250 for the Dunlop (at J&P Cycles)...are you still headed for the Darkside? My shop in Western MA will happily install a CT on your bike....for what they charge on a r/r, you'll think you bought another MC tire... lol.
  10. My new SVTC arrived at the shop with the lights in a box...they were installed, but, it seems, not connected to the switch. I understand... there was a bit of a rush to "get'er done" as the shop closed Friday for the 4th of July week... Has anyone made this install on their own? I assume I'll need to be looking behind the front, right-side fairing... Thank you, Rich
  11. The fender is not deformed, and the bracket itself is just a couple bolts. Mine was lowered and installed when I was away, but I do npt think the left saddlebag was removed for that operation...only four bolts and an electrical clip. The issue is that there are seven clips on the back rest and two wires, antenna, I believe that are not in clips. I should think you could hide them all in small bag behind the rear seat, and there may be just enough room to tuck them under it... I think it woild look pretty clean. My dealer laughed and said I was crazy...in a nice way....
  12. Thanks; that sounds much better than my "plan". I have a roll of weather stripping... I'll try it tomorrow and let you know if I am able to get out for a ride.
  13. Were you able to chase this down? On my first ride, I felt like it was coming from the top of the windshield OR...from the gap in the front of the nice, chrome cover between the windshield and the top of the fairing.... I need to ride more to figure it out...we were focusing on the road and figuring out the intercom functions.... Rich SVTC
  14. During 50 miles of 30-50mph roads, my passenger complained of heat o her left foot and ankle. As the read header is just nine inches, as the crow flies, from the front of the floorboard, I understand why... I certainly felt the heat under my left thigh. Interestingly, I did not notice this on test rides in early June. It was cooler and I was wearing chaps... So I went to the owners manual, remembering that the boards are adjustable. "See your Yamaha dealer...." Lol! I immediately found my 6mm Hex key and using decent leverage, removed the two bolts on each, (puke green/yellow thread loc) and raised the boards. I dabbed some white lithium in the lower, now open holes, but I do not have spare bolts to thread in, to keep out the road crud. Having seen the seat shield ad (somewhere?) I now understand....Next ride will be in my chaps, but is was already so hot yesterday, that I skipped them for our short, first ride. Take care. Rich
  15. Absolutely! I have edited your quote for the main idea, underlined, which has made me a shop hero...and allowed me to proceed on installing the TC package on my new ride. I literally pulled this thread up and followed your details on the shop computer, a PC. My newer Mac laptop would not format in the FAT32, but it would and did complete all of the other tasks once the flash drive was formatted. You saved the day! And have earned a "road soda" at the watering hole of your choice....
  16. Lesson four:After spending the second half of the day in the shop with the alarm, hitting the remote or turning the key to silence it, I am definitely going to read the manual(;-), then that thread in this forum, and then follow the directions or unplug the little siren when working on the bike, which is the route my shop suggests. It's four bolts away from the left hand saddlebag and a little clip that is easy to manipulate. Lesson Five: to make the flash drive work for the Nav upload, the key element is formatting said flashdrive in a PC to the "FAT32", which I could not do on my Mac. Once it was formatted correctly on a PC style computer, the rest of the operation went smoothly. I pulled the flash from the Venture and returned it to my Mac to complete the second step. There is a thread in this forum which provided that detail (I gave thanks!), and the mechanics in the shop were in awe of my mad tech skills....fortunately, I work with middle school children and have maintained confidence that I can't really "break" anything as long as I remember what I did in order to to "undo"....that becomes a greater challenge with each passing year...dang it! Lesson Six: I was leaving a meeting, on my way back to the shop yesterday afternoon. I stepped, awkwardly, on the edge of a concrete path, and as my ankle rolled (in slo-motion), my summer with my left ankle in a cast, flashed before my eyes. Some instinct caused me to just "go with the fall" and roll.... Upon reflection with co-workers and examination of the offending "lip", hidden by the grass, it was agreed that a very minor sprain could have been much worse. Take care!

  18. At 9:00 AM, I got a call from Ray's Cycle in Greenfield, Ma that the truck was in the lots and dropping off my new bike! Whoo-hoo! That's the good news; the tough part was that they were not expecting it until Friday, so the shop is booked until then. Regardless, I showed up and took pics as the owners and I unloaded the crate, attached the front wheel, washed off the dust!, and between two mechanics, and one salesman, we slowly began to attach the TC package. -Lesson one: thoughts of making the trunk a "quick disconnect" were more quickly dashed when I saw the array of wires and their mounts, which sit behind the rear passenger rest. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's beyond my ability, and the lead mechanic/co-owner, believed that some functions will be lost as the computer tries to figure out what happened to six or seven connections. Otherwise, Unlike the '01-'17 Wing, it seems like the rear fender will be clean with the trunk removed. If you create some sort of "fanny pack" at the back of the rear seat, you could clean up the look of the unplugged connectors. Again, this is all beyond my level of understanding; maybe I'll learn more this afternoon or tomorrow. -Lesson two: There are as many wires and connections on this bike as there are on a new car. I was immediately grateful for the included Y.E.S. package of five years, unlimited miles. -Lesson three: The alarm is not an issue if you disconnect the "siren". Although mine is not yet installed, it was a point of discussion I created, recalling a thread, which I have not read, on this forum. I'll post pictures when I achieve the requisite number of "newbie" posts.
  19. Thanks; I have never liked attaching things to my lid, but We'll see... Today was an awesome one for ride in New England; my Venture is due to arrive in a box on Tuesday - I assume it'll be a few days to put it together, but I hope we be doing our last "lean-back and yell" very soon. I have not listed my Road Star; my son told me he wants sell his Warrior, to lighten up , which is pretty much a "full dressed" touring rig, to it's original "Silverado" look with a solo seat, and take it home... I like the idea...I might let him ride it...;-)
  20. So after thinking about the cost, which is almost double; looking at the reviews of other bluetooth sets; hearing back from someone at J&M with a recommendation(strong suggestion), I have decided to go with the corded, 801 series setup. I am still interested in learning more about the J&M's bluetooth, but it may be too new for this forum; the thing has been available for the GL1800 for several years....
  21. No, it is not a bluetooth setup. J&M 801 series is recommended/sold as Yamaha Accessory. For Bluetooth, youy buy the J&M bluetooth device connection@$600, then the upgrade kit at $199 for existing headsets or a new BT-04 for another $400.... I Have checked out Sena and Cardia, emailed both to ask if they are compatible.
  22. While waiting for my Venture to arrive in Vermont, I have been investigating trunk racks, "the darkside" and communication options for two up trips... I have never used anything but lean back and yell. While not looking forward to being corded to my bike, I stumbled upon a "new" J&M bluetooth option that is "updated" to work with the new voice-activated system, the CB, and etc... Has anyone tried this? Looks like it will be about $400 more that the six or seven I expect to shell out for two headsets and the required cordage.... I'll provide web site info if that's allowed... new member with no posts, I still have restrictions on what I can post.... I have also written to J&M for information this morning - I'll post what they reply. It's amazing that kids can buy bluetooth, voice-activated headsets for their phones for $100....As a teacher, I have confiscated (and returned to parents) dozens of them.... Rich
  23. I am sorry for your situation...I was born in Berkeley in the summer of 1960, and I have always been irritated that my parents finally moved to Vermont a week after I was born, rather than the month before! Rich
